The heat is on!
There’s been a mysterious drowning in Phoenix, but nothing terribly unusual. Teens, a pool party with drugs and alcohol. But Nick meets the aunt of the victim and is unwittingly drawn into the investigation. Because this is more than an accident. It’s murder.
“Suspense at its best”

I love reading the different mysteries Nick gets involved in. While on assignment to all 50 states to take pictures he always gets involved in some mystery. He has a very keen eye to detail which helps in these crimes. Hot hot hot Arizona !
I received this as an ARC and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I found this series well into its run, this latest but hopefully not the last was #12 of 12. I’m normally particular about reading the books in order to see things as they develop and learn things that may be referenced to, explanations for, or otherwise affect the book you are reading. This one had a number of references to a recent previous book event but even not knowing the background in question there weren’t problems understanding what was taking place.
In the introduction to the book, a teen drowns at a pool party. The description of his getting to the pool makes it clear that something was wrong and some obvious hints were present but even those give away nothing. As in the previous books, our protagonist is a professional photographer “on assignment” to visit the capitols of all fifty states and use his keen eye to get photos that are not only well taken but which are not run of the mill and where there might be other stories from the pictures that you would never ordinarily learn. This same keen eye, attention to detail, and clear thinking had apparently been part of his accidental involvement in mysteries in each of the previous states. Once again, though trying hard to stay out of the public notice and avoid all possible entanglements with crimes, he finds himself pulled in once more.
Some good twists and turns en route to a possible resolution. While not the best mystery I’ve ever read, I enjoyed it enough to pick up book one in the series and proceed from there. I thought it was better than the three stars I gave it but not quite four star quality. As a fairly quick read, I recommend you check it (or any earlier ones) and decide for yourself. If you like the series, this is only number twelve and there are fifty states. 🙂
Poisoned in Phoenix by Troy Lambert is book 12 in the Capitol Cities Murder series following Nick O’Flannigan to each state capitol on assignment to make photographs for US Travel magazine for an upcoming book. However, Nick can’t seem to avoid getting involved in murder investigations while in town. He’s very good at discovering leads or evidence while examining murder scene photos. It is always interesting to discover how he gets involved and helps solve the mysteries.
I was given a copy of the book by the author through StoryOrigin but am voluntarily posting an honest review.
Although this series continues to be interesting this story did not meet the standards set in the previous ones. There is a crime with which Nick is faced just upon arrival in Phoenix and there is the picture taking. But there are too many mentions of how hot the place is, how much Nick doesn´t enjoy the hot weather, how much he promissed to everyone in his life that he would not get involved in crimes at the cities he goes to, how much he needs to keep hydrated, how hungry he is ….
I downloaded a free copy of this book at Story Origin and this is my honest review.
This story has a bit more depth than some of the earlier books in this series. Nick lesrns a little about a poisonous desert plant and uses this knowlede and his sharp eyes to identify a killer. The characters all seemed to have depth, and their personalities fit their age and social strata. The writing is clear and easy to read, and the plot has enough wrinkles to make it very interesting. I have now read every book in this series published so far, and I would place this one in the top 2.
I highly recommend everything Troy has ever written, but this is the best of the Nick O’Flannigan mysteries. There is more depth to Nick’s character than seen in previous stories and he grows more relatable as he acutely feels loneliness from missing family and Sandra.. His relationship with Sandra deepens and there is more depth to her character, too. Nick begins to lose some of his naiveté as he is drawn deeper into the mystery. He cannot just step aside this time, as this time it’s personal.
This was truly fun to read. It took just about two hours to finish. It’s so much fun reading about Nick’s shenanigans and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I would recommend this story to anyone who likes fun mysteries.
Nick has moved on to a much hotter part of the country, Arizona and he definitely isn’t used to the heat, or the amount of sunshine, cue sunburn!
Of course this is a mystery series, and this one involves a young man who dies at a party after he jumps into the pool.
Nick is reluctant to get involved in the investigation, but a P.I. asks for his help in looking through video footage of the incident.
What Nick finds is surprising, as is the involvement of another official, this made this into an interesting read. However I did find the ending a little frustrating and ill-defined, which is why I have reduced my rating to four stars.
I did receive an advance copy of this book but have voluntarily written this honest review.
Poisoned in Phoenix is book #12 in the Capital City Murders series and is a short but intriguing mystery.
I love this series and this is one of my favourites. Going against his own promise to his boss, Troy looks into a murder in Phoenix. The characters are well depicted and the storyline is interesting, with a view of the Grand Canyon, a poisonous plant, murder, mystery, and suspense.
I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
Poisoned in Phoenix: Capital City Murders Book #12, my third short (109 page) read from author Troy Lambert this week. The book caught my attention in the opening pages & I never put it down until completed about 90 minutes later. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. “I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.” (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
The Capital City Murders series just keeps getting better. I think Poisoned in Phoenix is my favorite installment so far. Nick O’Flanigan once again finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation by simply trying to return a favor to a desk clerk who helped him in an emergency. Not everyone in Phoenix is who they seem so Nick must be extra careful who he trusts. The mystery element just keeps getting more intricate as the series goes along with plenty fo plot twists. I love getting to know all the recurring characters as relationships build. Each city has colorful characters of its own as well. I highly recommend the Capital City Murders series to all mystery lovers.
Full of suspense!!
Kept me on the edge of my seat.
Can’t believe the ending

This wasn’t my favorite book in the series. When Nick checks into his hotel in Phoenix he notices the clerk crying. He discovers that her nephew has been murdered, drugged and drowned. Nick agrees to look as some pic with a PI she hired.
I like the plot and action and how Nick seems to always be drawn in. I liked how complicated the case became. But I didn’t like the ending not knowing if everyone involved was caught. It was a little confusing and felt a little unfinished. But that’s my opinion. That’s why I gave it 4 stars. But it is still a good book and I recommend it.
I really love this series, I like the way it is written by introducing you to the characters and the victim in the prologue.
Then we turn to Nick as he travels to his new destination, he meets some interesting characters along the way.
I find there is never a dull moment, everything is included in the story, Nicks parents capers on the phone, his girlfriend Sandra who is constantly telling him not to get involved, and the usual hotel receptionist with a problem to solve, there also is food involved too.
Very well written, fun characters and the narrator, who has a lovely clear voice, does a first class job of bringing this book to life.
Put this on your must-read or listen too list.
I received this audiobook for free from storyorigin and wanted to give an honest review.
This review is for the audio book.
I enjoyed this book but found the ending a bit confusing and it was suddenly wrapped up. I think it would have been better if the author made the story slightly longer and gave a more in-depth conclusion to the story. Otherwise I enjoyed the story and visiting another part of America. This is book 12 in the series and once again the author has managed to come up with another very different plot to what he has previously written about and backed it up with interesting and unique facts about the city he is currently visiting. The author is a talented writer and he paints a picture you can imagine of at least imagine the best rolling out of.
Upon arriving at his next hotel for the week Nick find the hotel clerk in tears over the apparent drowning of her nephew. With only a week to take the photos he needs of the capital city and with this girlfriend and boss’s words ringing in his ears the last thing he wants to do is get involved. The heat is getting to him and it’s not just sun burn. The boy was murdered and the aunt’s private investigator asks Nick to look at some photos taken at the party to see he can spot something he and the police missed.
I liked the narrator. His laid back style suits the story and character.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I love this series….although i haven’t read the whole series….kind of jumped in at book 11….but they are still easy to follow along….the best part is learning about each capital…. waiting for the next book is not so easy!
