A sweeping epic set in the harsh deserts of Arabia and ancient Palestine.
A war that rages between kingdoms on the earth and in the heart.
The harrowing journey of the woman at the center of it all.
Step back in time to the year of our Lord…A.D. 30.
The outcast daughter of one of the most powerful Bedouin sheikhs in Arabia, Maviah is called on to protect the very people who rejected her. … very people who rejected her. When their enemies launch a sudden attack with devastating consequences, Maviah escapes with the help of two of her father’s warriors–Saba who speaks more with is sword than his voice and Judah, a Jew who comes from a tribe that can read the stars. Their journey will be fraught with terrible danger. If they can survive the vast forbidding sands of a desert that is deadly to most, they will reach a brutal world subjugated by kings and emperors. There Maviah must secure an unlikely alliance with King Herod of the Jews.
But Maviah’s path leads her unexpectedly to another man. An enigmatic teacher who speaks of a way in this life which offers greater power than any kingdom. His name is Yeshua, and his words turn everything known on its head. Though following him may present even greater danger, his may be the only way for Maviah to save her people — and herself.

While I was hesitant to begin this book, I soon found myself sucked into Maviah’a world. This book will make you contemplate your own faith walk before you realize you’re thinking about it. A new way to experience the gospel.
The title caught my attention – the year Christ started His ministry. It is mnore about the peiople in that time, giving a lookj into what it was like to live at that time from the perspective of some of the people.
A. D. 30 by Ted Dekker ~ and the sequel, A. D. 33 ~ opened my heart and mind to that time period and how people (like me) discovered Who Jesus is. The characters are very well developed and they spoke into my life and my growing faith. TOTALLY recommend this book to everyone!
A Well-Researched and Well-Told Story
If you haven’t read Ted Dekker’s A.D. 33 (Center Street), his follow up to last years A.D. 30, it is the perfect time to devour it. What a perspective to gain right before Easter!
In A.D. 33 we still follow Maviah and other characters introduced in the last novel. Maviah has been restored as queen, has adopted a son, and is successfully leading a people when everything goes wrong. Follow Maviah as she journeys to save her people, her son, and herself. Maviah knows that after experiencing the presence of Jesus that she can’t do this without him. She searches for him and is present during intimate historical moments like when Jesus was arrested and at the foot of the cross. The love Maviah develops for Jesus is what I would imagine would happen if just any one of us could look into his eyes for just a moment. She is a woman overcome and wildly in love with her creator. If only we didn’t forget who we are so often, we would feel the power of that love all the time. She learns to put 100% trust in Jesus during the most trying time of her life, after an intense battle with herself to take up the fight on her own.
This novel is thought provoking, imaginative, and so close to the truth it’s scary. Your heart will fall and soar, and fall and soar along with Maviah’s. I definitely recommend this series to every reader.
A.D. 33 was released October 6, 2015. What experience has taught you to better trust Jesus?
A digital review copy was provided for me by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.
This book is action-packed. Sheds a new perspective on the historical aspects of Ancient Palestine and the conflicts that raged within. I would love to see a book like this written about Pompeii. Overall, wonderful!
Story from Bedouin’s point of view in CHRISTS Time on Earth. Fascinating.
I was captivated by this novel it made biblical events come to life in a way that I’ve never experience before other than reading the actual bible. The story kept me engaged and I felt every emotion portrayed in this book. It was the first novel I’ve read of Ted Dekker and it made me continue reading his work. I definitely recommend this book!
