A fresh and sexy new series from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Skye JordanI’ve got one hell of a life–the business of my dreams, a close-knit family, and the title of elusive but most-eligible bachelor in town. The only thing I’m missing now is my heart. I gave it away as a teenager and never got it back.I didn’t think I’d see that girl again. She was my best friend, my first … girl again. She was my best friend, my first love, the person I couldn’t wait to see arrive in June and couldn’t stand to see leave in September. But the summer she turned eighteen, she flew off to Paris and never looked back.
When she resurfaces twelve years later, I don’t want to want her. I don’t even want to care. I really just want my fucking heart back so I can move on with a normal life–marriage, kids. Hell, I’d settle for a cease-fire in my romantic life.
It turns out we’ve got a shared interest in her grandfather’s land. This could be the perfect opportunity to settle the past. Or it could be the biggest mistake of my life, the one that destroys my heart for good.
Books in the Wildfire Lake series can be read as stand alone novels.

Sweet Second Chance romance. I liked the premise of this story. I loved that Laiyla was able to find a long-lasting, long distance friendship with some amazing girls (KT & Chloe), with the parents she had she needed these girls in her corner. I loved that Laiyla didn’t come back to the place she left years ago, that there was so much change and challenges for her to face, they made her grow. Add Levi, who has had some big changes himself and I couldn’t wait to see how this would evolve….
I think it was A GOOD start to the Wildfire Lake series and can’t wait to see what Skye has in store for us.
In Too Deep is a delightfully sweet, quick second chance romance chock full of small town charm, heartwarming female friendships, and sexy romantic chemistry. This quick summer read will give you all the swoon-worthy feels as we dive into a story about a woman who finds her love just where she left him- in the charming Wildfire Lake.
Our leading lady Laiyla, on the cusp of the big 3-0 birthday, is heading back to her grandfather’s cabin at Wildfire Lake to meet up with her two besties, KT and Chloe, whom we met in the prologue. Her grandfather passed away a few years ago, and in her grief, Laiyla avoided coming to his cabin, and she finds his property to be much neglected. Laiyla wants to rebuild her grandfather’s marina and restore his legacy, but the townsfolk resent her for not coming back. Who will help her? Her high school sweetheart, Levi, whom she left in the dust broken hearted twelve years ago for a life in Paris. And, enter all the swoons, as these two try to navigate working with each other and learning who they are as people now while trying to make sense of the romantic pull that is still between them. The chemistry is sweet but passionate, with drama present but quickly resolved, letting this story unfold smoothly.
I adored Levi- he’s relatable, grounded, and so charismatic. He’s understandably wounded and distrustful, but he’s such a sweetheart as his core. He’s a total dreamboat, and his long term love for Laiyla, the feeling he’s held on to, just made me love him more. Laiyla took a minute for me to fully adore- especially because I don’t love the oppressive parents trope- particularly in characters who are full adults. And, her passiveness there wasn’t in line with the sassy, strong willed character we saw in Wildfire- but we all know, our family can make us do weird stuff. She warms up though as we start to see her through Levi’s eyes as they reconnect. And, in the moments when she put her foot in her mouth or didn’t stand as strong as I wanted her too, she quickly and gracefully adjusted course, showing some relatable character growth.
The prologue, which takes place a few years before the rest of the book, was quite unexpected. I must admit, for a minute I was worried I was in the wrong book- just where was this going? Turns out Skye was building the foundation for the central thread of this new series- the relationship between these three friends whose sisterhood was cemented by their support of one another in weathering a storm- literally. While I found it a bit lengthy, I also found it to be with the investment later on since KT and Chloe are huge parts of this story- and the center of future books. This prologue wasn’t the prologue for this story alone- it is setting up the interconnections that will drive the series, and I loved this friendship. There were times where it stole the show a bit – they bring the best out in each other and share an unbreakable bond and HEALTHY bond which is all too rare in female friendships in romance novels. I appreciated Skye’s attention to detail with the friendship as well as her careful setting building. Wildfire Lake is so real, so beautiful articulated- I feel like I live there. Given what an important role this place played to these characters individually but also to the landmarks of their relationship- where it started, ended, and began anew- I loved how well we got to know this place as the perfect backdrop and tone setter for this cute second chance story. I’ll be curious to see where Skye goes with this series next!
This was my first book I have ever read by Skye Jordan. I absolutely loved this story, it was such sweet and great read. The characters are memorable and the storyline just draws you in. This story was entertaining and emotional. It was well written and the characters were well developed. The story had second chance at romance and great friendship between the characters. It was a great start for this series. I can’t wait to see what is coming next. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for great romance and great friends.

I have found 3 new friends. Laiyla, KT and Chloe bond during a cyclone as they save each other. This amazing friendship becomes the one constant that Laiyla needs as she makes her way up the ranks at her parents’ business, never living up to their expectations. For their 30th birthday, they meet in Wildfire Lake, a safe place for Laiyla as a child when she spent summers with her grandfather. She inherited his property but couldn’t return after he died. What she never expected was to see his beautiful marina destroyed by neglect. Once again, her father let her down when he hired someone to maintain the property. The other thing she has to confront is Levi, the boy that took her heart every summer that she left behind. Levi has struggled with relationships after Laiyla left without a goodbye. Having her back in Wildfire Lake might be what he needs to finally resolve his feelings. As Laiyla embraces reviving the marina with her best friends, Levi becomes the best contractor to handle the project. Is this their chance to grab that love and never let go? Or will Laiyla cave to the pressure her parents continue to wield? I enjoyed this journey. Laiyla and Levi are wonderful and the friendship Laiyla builds with KT and Chloe is incredible. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
This is book one in the Wildfire Lake series and it features Laiyla and Levi. This is a very sexy, sweet and steamy Second Chance Romance. My heart aches for Levi and the loss he felt all those years ago. I didn’t care for Laiyla at first. The hold her parents STILL had on her, even all these years later, was very irritating to me. All in all this is a beautiful and entertaining Second Chance Romance. I can’t wait to read Chloe‘s and KT’s stories.
Such a sweet read. Small town, second chance romance adventure not too angsty. When three best friends meet up for their 30th birthdays they plan on a week of fun and catching up in a luxurious lodge by the side of the lake. What they actually get is quite a bit different. As Laiyla returns to her grandfather’s hometown after a 12 year absence, she’s not surprised to discover that her first love, Levi, is stilly the resident golden boy. She is surprised however, to discover she is now public enemy number 1, through no fault of her own. Her summer retreat is now a run down marina left to rack and ruin. Not only has she got to decide what to do with the marina she inherited, she’s got to contend with her sexy ex boyfriend, angry townsfolk, and parents who try to control her every move. It’s a good job she’s got the two best friends a girl could wish for to support her. This is my first read by Skye Jordan, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great writing, characters to keep you entertained, and a storyline leaving you wanting more, and I’m glad to see we’ll be getting more in this Wildfire Lake series. I’m guessing 2 more books focussing on Laiyla’s besties, Chloe and KT (that’s my hope anyway). They’ll be in my tbr as soon as they hit my Goodreads. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.
I’m In Too Deep, You’re The Fix I’ve Come To Need

This is my first Skye Jordan read. It was an entertaining, emotional and fast-paced read. This is a contemporary romance. I was enticed by the friendships that the characters had. I loved Laiyla’s comeback to her roots and how nothing was as expected. I empathized with her when she hurt for her family. She returns to the place she grew up in, hoping that she can avoid that one person. Of course, she meets that person and fireworks go off LOL. They were adorable as a couple.
I recommend this read to lovers of smooth romances, emotional backstories and a heart-melting second chance.
Laiyla and Levi’s romance gives all the feels! In Too Deep by Skye Jordan is a contemporary romance that grabs your attention from the prologue and doesn’t let go until the epilogue.
Laiyla is a well adjusted, successful young woman. Her only issue is the overwhelming pressure to make her parents happy by following their plan for her life. She’s determined to step away from their agenda and make her own dreams come true. She decides to do just that when she sees the wreck her grandfather’s lake arena has become since she inherited it three years before. She couldn’t bring herself to come back and face all the memories until now. She wasn’t prepared to also be confronted with her summer vacation sweetheart, Levi, on her first night back. She hadn’t seen him in seven years, and he’s grown up WELL.
Levi never got over his first love, Laiyla, no matter how he’s tried over the last 7 years. Now, she’s back in town, and has grand plans to upgrade her grandfather’s arena. But no one wants to attract such rich clientele to this lake that’s always been geared towards family. Not wanting to get hurt again, Levi doesn’t want to start anything up again with Laiyla, but she’s more beautiful and sexy than ever, and she definitely needs his help if she ever wants the town to support her.
He needs to decide, is a possible future with the girl of his dreams, worth the heartbreak he never wants to experience again?
I give this book 5 stars because it does everything a contemporary romance should. It was relatable, sweet, romantic, emotional, and sexy. I read the book in a day, and enjoyed every minute of it. This books is the first in the Wildfire Lake series and I can’t wait for the story to continue with the other characters she’s introduced in this book. I’ll definitely be buying more of this incredible author’s novels.
I enjoyed this book so much!!! Looks like it’s going to be an awesome new series by Skye Jordan! It was a much needed diversion from reality. I absolutely loved both Levi and Laiyla and their sweet second chance romance, that still manages to bring plenty of heat (see boat and waterfall scenes). They had a few hurdles to jump but nothing honesty, forgiveness and a deep love rekindled couldn’t solve. I also love the other characters in this story particularly KT and Chloe who Laiyla bonds with during a stressful situation and begins a forever friendship with. It is also where the story begins; and it’s such a wonderful story from beginning to end with a feel good HEA. I loved it!! Looking forward to seeing what happens for KT and Chloe.
In Too Deep is the first book in the Wildfire Lake series. It’s a first love/reunion story.
I felt bad for Laiyla throughout the book. She was so desperate to have her parents unconditional love, that she gave up everything to do their bidding. The career they wanted for her, the man (sorta) they wanted for her, the life they wanted for her. a few years after the death of her grandfather, she finally decides to take charge of her life. With the help of 2 of her close girlfriends and her first love Levi, she’s finally able to break away. Or is she?
Levi on the other hand, has lived the life he’s always dreamed about, except for not doing it with Laiyla. When she surprises everyone by coming back to their small town, he sees this as his final chance to get what he’s always wanted and goes all in.
The story is emotional in many ways. Luckily KT and Chloe (Laiyla’s friends) are there to lighten up the story when it gets a little heavy. I don’t want to give away too much, but I’m so interested in how they all will fair during this new venture.
The ending seemed a little rushed to me, but overall I enjoyed this book.
My biggest take away from this story is that we all have to live for our self. As long as you are not hurting anyone, do what makes you happy. You can’t live your life for someone else. No matter the intention.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.
What an incredible start to a new series by one of my favorite authors! In Too Deep starts with a very unique and interesting prologue wherein you meet three characters who become very good friends — Chloe, KT & Laiyla. This is Laiyla and Levi’s story. If you’re looking for a small town, second chance romance, look no further. This had all the signature marks of Skye’s writing—emotional, sexy & heart wrenching. Every character in the book was well developed and has a story of their own and I can’t wait to read Chloe’s and KT’s. Skye’s books are always five star winners for me. I loved everything about it & would highly recommend it!
This is a great start to a new series. It’s an easy read, which is perfect for summer reading. Three women, who couldn’t be more different, become lifelong friends due to unforeseen circumstances. Laiyla loved her summers spent with her grandfather at Wildfire Lake, her parents, not so much. She met her first (and only) love, Levi. Laiyla finally goes back because her and her friends (KT and Chloe) have their annual visit at her grandfather’s house and marina. Only to find out the marina and boats are in disrepair and the house gone due to a landslide. Could this be the first step in Laiyla’s independence from her parents and their expectations? Will Levi finally get what he wants?
Love, Love, Love. Did I say Love? This book brought out all the feels. Levy and Laiyla’s story was perfect. When you find your perfect half your soul knows. Throw in a couple of funny girlfriends and it’s a boat load of fun. Lol And that’s the way you begin a new series.
Skye Jordan’s new series, Wildfire Lake, centers on the loves and lives of three women who for a lasting bond in the middle of a cyclone. The fictional Wildfire Lake is nestled in the foothills near Santa Barbara. I immediately liked all three of these ladies and look forward to reading each of their stories. Skye’s characters are always well rounded, complex and likeable. This is an easygoing love story with a bit of angst but it ends happily.
First up, In Too Deep. Trying to live up to expectations, especially your parents, is both exhausting and demoralizing when nothing you do is every quite good enough. In the business world Laiyla Saxon is a success story. In her personal life, not so much. Going home to the place where she was her happiest after 12 years should be a good thing but instead it’s heartbreaking. Not only is her grandfather’s marina in utter disrepair but to the surrounding community she’s public enemy number one. Also, her first love and former best friend is still here. Levi Asher had his heart broken 12 years ago when Laiyla walked away and he still hasn’t moved on. He’s built a good life and successful business but there’s always been something missing. Now she’s back and he must decide whether to try one more time or finally give up and move on. Can he trust her not to walk away from them again? Or is there even a chance for them again.
Oh, what a solid start to a series. Laiyla let her insecurities and desire to please her parents force her to walk away from the first (and only?) love years ago. A chance meeting gives her the two best friends she could hope for, but she still misses that love. Until….she heads back to where it all started.
Levi has tried to live his life, knowing that his One has left him in the dust, but he just can’t. Then his One comes back, and he’s stuck with conflicting feelings of love, pain, anger, and fear that this time won’t be enough for her either.
Laiyla and Levi both have some growing left to do, but they manage to work through their issues together. But, as is life in a small town, many people aren’t okay with Laiyla’s return. So she has to prove herself to the man she never stopped loving and a town full of naysayers at the same time.
I enjoyed Levi and Laiyla, their friends, their family, and their town (once Laiyla found an unlikely ally, that is), and I’m interested to see what comes next.
I’ve read almost all of Skye Jordan’s books, and have liked most of them and loved a few (the first ones I read, her Rough Riders hockey series remains my favorite!) This one had a lot of potential, but didn’t live up. First book in a new series, it introduced new characters and an old love. But it went too fast, and all the situations seemed cliché and two dimensional. The book could have used more depth and gone on for another hundred pages for me to be satisfied. But I’ll see what book 2 has in store. Thanks to the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.
In Too Deep is a great small town second chance romance.
Wildfire Lake is home to Levi and a place where Laiyla spends her summer visiting her Grandfather. After spending several summers falling in love they were torn apart. Years later, finding the property in ruins, Laiyla is back to town and fighting both the loyal locals and her love for Levi.
I loved the way this trio of women met and the adventure they started together in this story. Levi and Laiyla seemed to move a bit fast back into their romance however when its right its right. Their love story is not without its trials and I’m glad Laiyla learned to stand up for herself!
My first book by the author and I really enjoyed it.
I love second chance romance and this one hit all the marks for a great story with a bit of everything in it.
From the first chapter to the last, it kept me interested and I loved the friendship between the girls and of course the chemistry and steamy scenes.
Looking forward to the next books in the series.
It has been a while since I read one of Skye Jordan’s books but this book was AMAZING!! From the time I started reading, I could not put the book down.
As a new series, I love how the prologue introduces three women whose lives are tied together in so many unique ways. In addition to setting the stage for this story, the prologue left me wanting to know more about all three women.
Laiyla has obviously struggled with trying to please her parents her whole life and not feeling the parental love from them. When she goes back to the home her grandfather left for her (the place where she spent her summers), she finds it in ruins. Instead of giving up, she, along with her two friends, decide to rebuild.
Levi, on the other hand, has lived in Wildfire Lake most of his life. While he met Laiyla over the summers she spent with her grandfather, he continued to live in the area even after Laiyla left. It is obvious that the people in town are on his “side” when Laiyla returns.
Levi and Laiyla need to work on many issues before they are able to find their happily ever after. This page turner had me going “I want more”.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series.
A cyclone in the South Pacific brings together three women from very different backgrounds. The harrowing experience and their commonalities create a strong friendship among them.
The women gather seven years later at Laiyla’s grandfather’s lakefront property. Even though she inherited the property several years earlier, Lailya hadn’t been back since she was 18. She is devastated to see the property in a state of disrepair; it had been the only place where she felt joy and freedom growing up. Within minutes of being back in Wildfire Lake, Laiyla runs into Levi — her first everything and the one she left behind at 18.
Laiyla and Levi’s story is an emotional one. At 18 and now again at 30, Lailya is struggling with the weight of her parent’s expectations. It is their expectations that caused her to leave Levi that final summer and made her dismiss her feelings as just “puppy love.” Laiyla has to figure out if there’s more to her first love feelings with Levi and whether she should jump at this opportunity to pursue her dreams.
I loved the friendship between Laiyla, KT, and Chloe. This group of women is fully supportive of each other. Just like great friends do, they rally behind Lailya and give her a push in the right direction when she needs it. I get the impression that there’s nothing that these three women can’t do when they work together!
After reading several crazy angst-filled books recently, In Too Deep was the right amount of sweet and sexy while being light on the unnecessary drama. While both Laiyla and Levi have things that they need to work through from their past relationship, they ended up being a really cute couple. The sparks and tension between Laiyla and Levi are well developed and believable; they are a perfect blend of heart and heat.
I can’t forget to mention Wildfire Lake and its residents. The townspeople are an entertaining cast of characters. Wildfire Lake is the perfect backdrop for this story. It’s a place many of us wouldn’t mind living!
If you are a fan of second chances, small-town romances, and well-written characters, In Too Deep is the perfect book for you. It is an excellent start to this new series. I can already tell that I’m going to love it. I wonder who is next — KT or Chloe?!?!?
Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
