Interesting characters with an unpredictable story line.
This is a family drama/love story/mystery/ and a few very steamy scenes you can skip over if you need to and still enjoy this adventure.
Meet Elizabeth, home again studying earthquakes and avoiding visiting her dad, Charles. Charles was in prison and now is in a facility in their hometown…..it seems he killed his wife Misty with scissors but her body disappeared. So here is Elizabeth listening as people point her out as the daughter of a murdered mother and her father did it.
The first chapter of this book involves a person killing women and their children and it is drop dead scary! Then you are in Virtue Falls, Washington with Elizabeth and wondering what the connection is with chapter one…..it’s a doozy!
Her ex-husband Garik, also ex -FBI, is not over his wife and heads back home after an earthquake hits that area. The earthquake and tsunami scenes are so well written that you feel you are there. The town is cut off with few services and Elizabeth sees her mother in law, Margaret for a place to stay. Margaret is elderly, stubborn, with all her faculties and hoping to unite Garik with Elizabeth.
There are memorable characters including Rainbow, the Sheriff, Bradley, Vivian, and Marrero.
A bit of paranormal involves Charles seeing and talking to Misty as if she’s still alive. Charles as old and sick as he is, will do anything to protect Elizabeth, along with Garik, as murders happen in Virtue Falls, with scissors!
I couldn’t put this book down and the mystery is scary but the family connections and drama add a deeper connection and make this a book one could read again and pick up more to enjoy as a romance or family drama.
In general, I thought this was a good book. I enjoyed reading it. The story between Elizabeth and Garik is well thought out. However, the pieces about Kateri seemed disjointed and not well tied in to the rest of the book. Maybe Virtue Falls is a sequel to something I haven’t read yet, but Kateri’s story line just didn’t flow – especially as the last chapter!
Frankly I did really enjoy the book but it’s been two weeks since I finished it and I can’t remember specifics.
Loved this book it was a real page Turner. I didn’t know who did the 20 year murder until the last chapter.I liked the characters as well. Couldn’t put it down.
Okay, you have to read next to see what happens.
Page turner. I this is a really fun read in true Christina Doss tradition!
Riveting. Unusual characters . Really kept my interest
I really enjoyed this first book in the Virtue Falls Series! A great mystery with lots of well developed characters that continue to show up throughout the series.
Good book with interesting characters.

Slow and confusing. Too much jumping around
