I picked this book up and couldn’t put it down If you haven’t read you should you won’t be disappointed! By a Great Author I was given this book to read and review for an honest review and this review is of my own accord!
I loved this book. It’s is in one of my favorite genres, historical western romance. It was easy to read and follow. And included all the good parts of a western; heroes, heroines, cowboys, outlaws, villains, horses, and a marshal. Glad to had a chance to read this book and looking forward to more in this series.
A young girl, with some memories she would rather forget, has others that she wants to find out if they are even real. Do these people exist or have they died like her parents did? Returning from many years in the Boston area, these memories become sharper the longer Destiny stays around Roaring Springs. In this partly civilized, partly wild world is it even possible that she will glean any information about her past?
What a lovely story set in the old west during the time of gold fever, cowboys, hired guns, feuds and more. Mr. Michael and his friend Hunter have worked together just like their fathers did before them. Unfortunately an old feud looks like it may bring dastardly results to their quiet life. Will the murder of their fathers finally be atoned for? With plenty of vivid detail and wonderful characters, the author takes us back into the Wild West in this first book of the Troubles in the West series.
This novel was published by the Story and Logic Media Group. The impressions and comments are my own and were in no way solicited.
I always enjoy a western romance and this one had a mystery to go along with it as well. Right from the very beginning we are brought into three kids’ lives. Caleb who is 12, Hunter 5, and Destiny at 6. Fifteen years later they are all grown and still interconnected. The how and the why is revealed throughout the story.
This read was filled with adventure and danger and a budding romance between a mysterious Mr. Michael and Destiny who has come out west to find out information on what happened to her family and she is trying to locate the boy Caleb.
Destiny is young and naïve and some of her brashness and trying to show how capable she was in a man’s world was a little bit over the top. If she would have only listened to some sense now and again…well. Mr. Michael seems up to the challenge though, and he certainly was keeping some big secrets.
I enjoyed their growing and often frustrated relationship. I can certainly understand Destiny’s search for her past and the mystery was very well written and kept me turning the pages. I thought the title was a clever take on the story as well.
I received a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
Such a sweet story! Set in the wild west there’s mystery, suspense, inspiration and romance. The main characters all have memories and demons they wrestle. Each of them are searching for answers. Toss in a couple of bad guys with aspirations of their own and you’ve got a good story. Worth the read. 4 stars.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
What I think you should know:
Caleb’s Destiny is a Historical Romantic Suspense by Carole Brown. It is set in 1879 in the Western , USA.
What I think about this book:
I have read many of Brown’s contemporary fiction books and enjoyed them, so I was very interested to see how her historical fiction would be. I was very pleased to see that Brown has continued to write a complex story with great characters, intrigue and suspense. The story started off with three heartbroken Children and moved on to a Wild West tale full of adventure! I enjoy a story when the characters are realistic and can draw me in. I found myself fussing at Destiny, I know she was sheltered, but she was making some really dangerous choices at the beginning of the book. However as the story progressed she showed that she had brains and spunk. Mr. Michael was just as infuriating as Destiny at times, but together they made a great story. I loved all of the supporting characters of the book, especially Maria and Hunter. I would love to read a series that follows the characters of this book.

Carole Brown’s newest book, Caleb’s Destiny, is a western of true western proportions, set in the west during and just after the gold rush days.
Destiny McCullough, orphaned at a young age, left the west and her best friend Caleb when her parents’ death forced her to go to boarding school in Boston. Now, years later and grown, she’s looking for Caleb.
I enjoyed how Destiny had so much spunk, pluck, resolve and fortitude. She seldom let anything stop her when her mind was made up. I don’t know of many young women, especially during the 1870s, who would leave a life in Boston and take off on their own for Colorado to find a friend she hadn’t seen since her childhood.
Hunter, a ranch hand, and Mr. Michael, the owner of the ranch where Destiny ends up, have hints of a mysterious link between them. In addition, there are elements of intrigue and suspense tied into their stories. Destiny’s determination and resolve seem to constantly get in their way.
Carole Brown writes a realistic, lickety-split, rapid-fire story that catches your attention from the first page and holds on tight until the end. I enjoyed the fast-paced, mysterious and romantic aspects of the tale. Plus, as always, Browne weaves Biblical truths and nuggets of wisdom into her novel.
I received Caleb’s Destiny from Celebrate Lit. However, I was under no obligation to post a review.
Destiny Rose McCulloch became the victim of a stagecoach robbery while traveling in the West. After being rescued, she stayed at Mr. Michael’s to recover and soon grows to love the ranch and living there. She senses some sort of connection to him or at least to the area as she tries to unravel some of the mysteries of her past and find the kind young man who helped her then. The author produces a rollicking Western adventure with rustlers, gunfights, danger, unsavory characters, and much more. The intriguing tale is filled with surprises as the story gradually unfolds. The unique characters and twisting plot hold the readers’ interest. Will Destiny find all she seeks or will she return to the East and man who wants to marry her? Her life seems to continually be in turmoil, and she’s not certain what future to choose. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
When I read the back of this book I was a bit confused and wasn’t sure if this was going to be an amazing book or not. But then I started reading and I didn’t want to put the book down. That’s when I knew it was going to be amazing!
In this book you get danger and mystery, intrigue, a feud, love lost and love found, and so much more.
Destiny has spent her life in boarding schools but now she’s off to find a boy she once met. All she knows about him is his first name and where he’s from. Can she find him? Why is this her goal? And also will she get distracted along the way? She left a man behind who tried to claim her heart. But now out west, her heart is in much more danger.
I believe this is my second book to read by this author. I enjoy that it is fast-paced and keeps me thinking. This is a book I can recommend and hope you’ll give it a read. Destiny is a wonderful character though at times I wonder about her. Mr Michael is quite the character and probably my favorite. And the third central character is Hunter.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
This has been a great adventure with a look at three people whose lives will cover a history that started long ago. I enjoyed getting to know each character as the author slowly introduces us to each of them. The background of a western town really piqued my attention. The town is just starting to grow and I loved the details of the shops and hotel that brought the people work.
Destiny has a past that is heartbreaking but she is determined to find someone she knew a long time ago. Caleb made a difference in her life when they were both young and now she wants to find him. She has never forgotten his compassion and how it impacted her life. I loved her spunky attitude and how she faced danger head on.
Michael is quite a catch I think. He is a kind man who finds himself rescuing Destiny after an altercation while traveling. I loved his ranch and how protective he was with people around him. It was fun to read how Destiny and Michael disagreed on things and who would turn out the winner in their arguments. Michael is aware that someone is out to kill him and that leads to a very exciting story that has hired guns, deceitful and vengeful men, danger and a secret that could change several lives.
I can’t forget to mention Hunter. He is almost an adult and Michael has taken him under his wings. Hunter is smart and very dedicated to keeping Michael safe from danger. I loved the side story of him and a certain young woman who catches his eyes. I’m hoping the author will give him his own book so I can find out if he wins that special someone’s heart.
The story has intrigue, danger, secrets and an adventure as Destiny looks for “Caleb.” Will she find what she has been looking for all these years? How will these three characters lives intertwine from childhood to now? I enjoyed the book and found it to be one that should be made into a movie. It could actually be a series much like ones my dad use to watch every Saturday. He loved westerns and followed their stories every week. This book is the first in the series and I look forward to reading the next one as soon as it comes out.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Caleb’s Destiny is a cute little love story filled with fun and intriguing characters. Going on this adventure with them was exciting and I was a little sad to see it end.
I will admit, I did not like the book at first. Destiny’s character initially put me off, and even at the end, I wasn’t the biggest fan of her. She was a bit too headstrong for me, and in the beginning she seemed to be somewhat flighty, although that assumption of her was quickly dashed the more I read. I did, however, like Mr. Michael. He was kind and I liked that the author did not just focus on his and Destiny’s love story, but also focused on each of the characters’ pasts and main goals.
While the book was somewhat predictable, it was still worth reading. The ending was a little emotional and I ended up falling in love with most of the characters.
My one complaint about the book was that we didn’t get to see a lot of Hunter’s story. He was there, and when I initially read the summary above, I thought he would be more of a main character. But he seemed to be more of a background character, which I was actually really disappointed about. I really think his story could have been developed more, and it would’ve made the book even more interesting.
Overall, though, this book was such a fun read, especially if you are looking for something quick and light.
I had received a copy of this book as part of the Celebrate Lit Blogging Team and was required to give an honest review.
Caleb’s Destiny is my first introduction to Carole Brown’s writing. It definitely will not be the last. It is also, the start of the Troubles in the West series. I thought his was a pretty good read. I enjoy reading Westerns and this one does not disappoint. It was full of adventure, danger, action, mystery, suspense, faith and inspiration. I loved the characters, plot, and setting. It is not that predictable, that made me want to keep reading until the end. I had no problem having it read in a couple of hours.
I am giving Caleb’s Destiny four stars. I look forward to the next installment from he Troubles in the West series. I recommend this one for readers who enjoy clean historical fiction. It is definitely worth a read. I am so glad I gave it try.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
