Evelyn and Alex continue on their journey to unravel the mysteries that lie beneath the Bryne House.
When Daniella, William and Madeline return to the Bryne House their secrets are revealed. Danielle as always has ulterior motives as to why she wants Simon’s journal.
As the pieces of the puzzle start to fall in place discoveries are brought forth revealing betrayal and lies as Alex and Evelyn’s life is in danger.
A suspenseful mystery with a sprinkle of esp. I would recommend reading the first book, Under Glass and Stone first.
Thank you BookSirens and the author for a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
I love A.N Willis and this end to her duo-logy was awesome. Great characters who had to overcome crazy stuff to get to the end! And boy did I not guess what was behind that door!

Where to begin? I’ll start with…..this book(s) was phenomenal! I didn’t feel ,as much, as if I were reading a story as I was living it. This author, much like this book is phenomenal. I hate to keep using that word but its what comes to mind most. To say this book is an epic adventure is a vast understatement. I was so invested in each of the characters within these pages. I’m struggling to put thought to paper. There just aren’t words to describe how much I enjoyed this read. I normally fly through a book, but this one I savored to the last word. This author will be a staple in my collection from now on. Do yourself a favor, pick up this book, I’ve become about as obsessed as Walter with his work. Don’t know who that is? Under Glass and Stone will introduce you to him and his family. You won’t be disappointed.
This is book 2 in this YA series, and while it isn’t perfect, I still enjoyed the read.
This book picked up a couple of months after the first book ended with Evelyn and Alex trying to make their relationship work in spite of the distance, but things are about to get complicated for them again. Yes, things were a bit more predictable – character wise. The characters pretty much acted as expected, much as they behaved in the first book. But the supernatural elements that the author brings to life in this series were quite unique and unlike anything I’ve ever read or thought about before. Kudos to the author for creativity!
Outstanding Suspenseful Paranormal Mystery
Doors of Gold and Rust, by A. N. Willis, is the second book in the Byrne House Duology. Although I had not read the first book, there were enough references to what had transpired that I was able to understand and build upon the significant parts of the first book. At the outset, I want to say that I enjoyed this book tremendously and give it an unqualified five-star rating. It was a paranormal mystery with enough twists and turns that it was impossible to guess who the villain/villains was/were and what would eventually transpire beneath Byrne House until the very end (at least for me – maybe others are smarter than me).
The female protagonist is Evelyn Ashley, who lives directly across the street from Byrne House. The previous summer, she had been kidnapped and taken to a laboratory beneath Byrne House by Darren Byrne, who had injected her with drugs he was experimenting with based on his grandfather’s journals. Her friend Jake had also been captured by Darren and had been subjected to those drugs as well. She and Jake were able to escape after she killed Darren. But the drugs caused both Evelyn and Jake to experience flashes of other people’s memories and emotions from the past, even events that they weren’t present for at the time they happened.
Her boyfriend is Alex Evans, a cousin to Daniella Byrnes, Darren’s sister. He was attending school on the East Coast and she wasn’t sure he would be coming for the winter holiday. Daniella had sent Evelyn a letter telling her that she forgave her for whatever had happened to Darren and asked for her help with finding another invention she had discovered from clues in her grandfather’s, Walter Byrnes, journal. She promised to deliver what Evelyn wanted most. Much to her surprise, Alex was at her door when she returned home after discussing Daniella’s letter with Jake. Alex was what she wanted most and Daniella had apparently delivered him.
So now the stage is set for what happens from this point forward as Evelyn and Alex explore the mysteries of Byrne House, with and without Daniella. This is a fast-moving book and holds your interest through to the very end. I found myself staying up until the wee hours of the morning until I finished it. Great book, Ms. Willis!
