The nurses call me Dr. Heartbreaker. They say I put the hot in hot-shot cardiologist. Not that it matters. I never stick my tongue depressor in my co-workers. What can I say? I play by a set of personal rules. Even if those rules eliminate 99.9% of the woman I come in contact with from my dating-pool. Even if those rules landed me on a blind date with Emily, my childhood sweetheart, a … Emily, my childhood sweetheart, a woman I hadn’t seen since I broke her heart freshmen year of college.
Let’s just say the evening was a disaster. She took one look at me, and it was…
Date over. Do not pass go. Do not collect your two-hundred dollars.
The thing is, I can’t stop thinking about her. She was my first kiss, and every other first that two people could share.
She’s the only woman I’ve ever loved.
How can I make her understand what really happened between us when she wants nothing to do with me?
How can I let her walk away again, when it could mean another ten years wondering…what if?
The answer’s simple. I can’t.
Unfortunately, the solution to my dilemma is a five-year-old Colombian girl with a deadly heart condition. The same little girl Emily’s non-profit organization brought to the United States to receive life-saving surgery.
When the chief of staff informs me, I need to improve my public image because my bedside manner sucks–not THAT bedside manner. I’m just fine between the sheets, thank you very much—I agree to perform the girl’s operation…
Because spending more time with Emily is worth the risk.
Even if it means I have to break every rule in my playbook.
Even if it means destroying myself in the process.
I’ll do anything for a second chance with the woman who’s owned my heart since the first-grade.

This was my first book from this author and I loved it. It was full of a cocky doctor that slowly wore me down and made me swoon. The second chance relationship that had escalated from friendship was comforting. I loved Emily’s profession and the love that both she and Rhett showed Paola in giving her the comfort she needed. The lag in the language made me laugh at times. I loved the meddling mothers and the sweet alike but different “sisterhood” of the 2 girls. This book didn’t lack drama and it definitely didn’t lack heat.
4.5 Stars
I really enjoyed this story. This story is an beautiful second chance romance with a lot of emotions, missed timed & heartache. This is Rhett & Emily’s story and we get to cameos from Simon & Bridget (British Bedmate) The story takes to through a roller coaster of emotions and you feel for both Rhett & Emily and what they have left and what they went through. It’s an absolute masterpiece and the author has done a fantastic job with this story. I am really enjoying this series. This is the first time I am reading this author and I have to check more books by this author. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was captivating and quite engaging.
Another great second chance romance in the Cocky Hero Club.
Emily and Rhett were childhood sweethearts but life and drama split them up. They are thrown back together when Rhett, who is a top cardiologist, is chosen to perform surgery on a young child who is in Emily’s care. He’s determined to show her that he is the man for her and always has been.
A great story of two people coming back together.
The cover grabbed my attention but the story kept it!
This was just hands down a good story. The storytelling was excellent, no real angst, and just enough steam. There could have been drama but I’m glad the author let Emily and Rhett be adults and rise above it.
In the end sometimes it comes down to timing. I’m glad that their clocks finally lined up!
Another new author for me, I really enjoyed this story of second chances. Rhett and Emily knew each as kids and were even boyfriend and girlfriend but things happen that drive them apart and they each move on with their lives. Now, set up on a blind date by friends, they meet again. This was a quick read and while there is a bit of OW drama, it doesn’t take away from the story of the two main characters getting back together, but can they make it work? Loved it!
