He thought his life was perfect, and then she walked into the office
Former TOPGUN pilot Clint Davenport is the newly-crowned prince of public radio now that he’s hosting America’s most popular drive-time show. The ladies can’t get enough of this Flying Ace, but he’s all out of runway for the fairer sex because of a tragedy that haunts him. But life is perfect, or at least that’s what he keeps … life is perfect, or at least that’s what he keeps saying. Until he finds himself on the ropes (literally) at a company retreat and the only person who can bring him in for a safe landing is his office frenemy, who seems as comfortable in a climbing harness as he used to be in an F-18.
Erin Hung was twenty-eight and still living with her parents in Honolulu, so when her favorite cousin invited her to move to glittering Los Angeles, she made the leap. After four years, this late bloomer has blossomed. She owns her own condo in gorgeous Pasadena, has the love of a good male—her Shiba Inu, Atticus—and is the badass marketing manager for America’s #1 radio show. But she still has a lot to prove and is gunning for a promotion. She doesn’t have time for distractions, especially romantic ones…and there’s no way she’s interested in that cocky ex-fighter pilot who just got tapped as host. Unfortunately, working with Mr. Cockpit Cockypants is the only way to get her raise.
When work forces them together, it seems like the beginning of a new Cold War, or maybe Clint’s high-flying charm is just what Erin needs to see there’s more to life than just work.

Aviva Vaughn has brought us a tale of two people who are probably more realistic than we get in most romances. They bumble through their attraction to each other and misconstrue each other’s words and actions frequently. The interest is there, but so are self-doubts and second-guessing. What we get is the enjoyable and satisfying story of Clint and Erin in Love on the Ropes.
Erin is from Hawaii, but she has moved to California for job opportunities, and she is now working in marketing for a public radio station. Clint is the voice of the station’s early morning show that is broadcast all across the US. During a team-building retreat, Clint decides to ask Erin on a date. One of the things enjoyable about this book is the POVs of both characters as they try to decipher and intuit what the other is saying and doing. More often than not, they get it wrong and have to apologize to each other. But as they work together (fraternization is ok in their workplace) and open up to each other, they discover mutual respect and attraction.
Love on the Ropes is definitely a slow burn romance, but the wait is sweet, and when you add the thoughts of Atticus Erin’s snooty Shiba Inu, the gentle meddling of Fern Erin’s best friend, and her Mom, the book only gets more enjoyable.
Love On The Ropes (Love In Action Book 1)
By Aviva Vaughn
5 out of 5 stars
I loved reading the book Love On The Ropes (Love In Action Book 1) by Aviva Vaughn. It is a story that is romantic and humorous. It is a story that hooked me in from the beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until the final page. I love the characters of Clint Davenport and Erin Hung. When they are in the same place there is electricity and chemistry like you wouldn’t believe. There are also times when they clash. Will they give each other and a relationship a chance or will they push each other away? Read this book to find out. I love that Erin is a woman who is independent and ambitious. She is up to the challenge of getting a promotion. Clint is a man who may be on public radio however not many know of the tragedy that haunts him. He is taken aback by his intense feelings for Erin. I grew to care about Clint and Erin with each chapter that I read. I wanted them to be happy and rooting for their success in all they wanted to accomplish. There are also secondary characters that I enjoyed reading. The author does an amazing job of making both the story and the characters come to life on the pages. Some moments will make you laugh and others that will touch your heart. Don’t miss out on an endearing and entertaining book. I highly recommend reading it.
This was an interesting story. I enjoyed the time that Erin and Clint spent together during the retreat as they got to know each other, though I felt it was a little too long in description of the activities and such. As they learned about each other and their attraction became stronger, I kept turning pages to see how it would play out. Erin was mostly innocent in the ways of the world, quite sheltered, but she had the strength to improve herself and take chances. Clint was more confident, a bit arrogant, but still had the patience to wait out Erin. He was her strongest supporter when she needed it. Overall, a good book.
I received a copy of this story through Enticing Journeys Book Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.
I enjoyed this romance comedy. I have read quite a few books by this author, this one ranks up with one of my favorites by her. She rights with lots of heart and soul. Her stories are well written and pull you in right from the start. This book is no different. The characters are connectable and made the story feel real. I had no issues putting myself in the story with Erin and Clint. They made the story easy to read and engaging. Clint is an ex-pilot and she is a marketing manager. What will happen when the only way for her to get a raise is to work with this arrogant man? I enjoyed watching them grow throughout the story. Their banter back and forth made me giggle a few times. They have such great chemistry. I found myself hoping they would see what is right in front of them and get their HEA. Is romance what they both need? I really enjoyed their characters and what they brought to the story. I highly recommend this book.
This is the 1st in a new series as well as this being a new author to me, but I will most certainly be looking out for her work in the future. Clint is a former top-gun pilot who is haunted by his past, and he is now a popular host of a drive time show. Erin is the marketing agent for this #1 radio show, but she feels she has still got a lot to prove, especially with a promotion on the horizon. The last thing Erin want is an added complication of a cocky Clint, but they are forced to join forces. This is a well written tale which is an entertaining and humorous frenemies / lover’s workplace romance. I look forward to reading more from this author and I recommend this for all.
