I’m different. There’s a darkness that stirs restless in my soul.It craves blood and violence then feeds off of my anger and despair.I can control it… most of the time.I can starve it, but I cannot starve myself.Because it’s not just the darkness that craves these things… I do, too.My mother grounded me and helped calm the storm, now she’s dead and everything changed. My life is now lived … everything changed.
My life is now lived through red hued glasses and anger simmers just under the surface.
Until him…
Now my dark soul craves his and I won’t let anything come between us,
even if I have to kill… with my bare hands.

Great start for a new series, plenty of twists to keep the pages turning well into the night… Cannot wait to dive into the next book… Well done!
Ember is a kick ass leading leading woman. Vincent has just enough darkness to handle her. After the death of her mother Ember lives with her aunt and uncle where She meets Vincent. Their darkness balance each other out. Ember soon discover she has a brother and who her father is. Then the events surround this bring them closer. The cliffhanger at the end of the book just make you can’t wait for the next book in the series.
This book is mesmerizing. There were so many “I didn’t see that coming” moments for me that I was absolutely hooked. From beginning to the cliffhanger I couldn’t tear my eyes away from what I was reading. I absolutely loved this.
I received this series to review and I am in awe. I wish i could give it a 20. I feel bad because I left it to the last minute because I love reverse harems so much and this one isnt but this series blew through every single expectation i had and then some. Ember is indescribable and the only thing that truly comes to find is shes a survivor. She lost her mom in a fire and then she finds out she has a aunt and uncle and that is when the story start. She had to do things that noone has ever even considered and it changes her, remakes her, like a phoenix rising from the ashes..
This book and author are very different then anything i have ever read. I have not read much where the dynamic and everyday banter between the love interests are so prevalent. I enjoyed this so much, The way they came together and the fact that their darkness is what makes them unbreakable. This series devastated me. I cried, sobbed thru parts of this. I was in denial and had to stop for a day. Its tragic, twisted, dark but then you see the way that she made her little family, one by one, tearing them all out of the darkness and into her light. She is not innocent and she is not for the faint of heart but man does she love and when you are accepted into her inner circle, you are golden, This series broke me, I was not ready, I was not expecting any of the things and events that occurred. From the addition of characters and relationships, it was magnificent and i dont use that word, well ever.. I was unprepared for the gamut of emotions that poured from me, I sat there at times not wanting to turn the page especially a hospital situation, I am forever changed by this series. Its about family, surviving what should of broken you, and that blood is not thicker most of the time. This review does not even do this series justice at all. I cant even put it into words the feelings and emotions that this series is. All i know is that out of all the hundreds of books ive read in my life, this one surprised me the most. Just wow, C.A. just wow….Home run…Beautiful, Tragic, Sensational.
4.5 stars
This is the first book in the Whitsborough Chronicles series. It follows the story of Ember, a sixteen years old MMA trained fighter. After the tragic loss of her mother, Ember is adopted by her aunt and uncle, and moves to Canada, Whitsborough town, town which harbors some old secrets. She starts to attend a Catholic school, where she meets Vincent, Travis and Adrianna.
This first book focuses more on Ember’s new life and her relationship with Vincent, the friendship bond between her and Adrianna and Travis. But what happens when Ember wants to find her father and has the surprise of her life? As I said the town is full of old secrets, so the entire story is twisted, full of action and interesting. There are some twists in the end which leave the book in a cliffhanger, so you need to have book two very closely to you.
“I think both of our darkness’ can be great together.”
This was a great way of starting the series, something big is going to happen, and the thrill of getting to know it, to see what happens next, it keeps you on your toes.
What the fuck?! That ending, shit. After all the crap that happened I wasn’t expecting this shit. Fuck. I love this author’s mind. This book is fucking amazing. Ember is a badass bitch, and fuck, I think I want to be her. She’s now my favorite super heroine. Villain? I don’t fucking care, I just want to have her balls. And her mental observations are funny as shit. I think I need to steal some of her nicknames. The demons she has inside her, when their darkness starts to leave its cage…there’s no stopping her. Not until the monster gets its fill of blood. The beginning of this book started so innocent like that I wasn’t prepared when shit got real, because it fucking did. I loved everything about it, the characters, the drama, the sex, the blood, it was addicting. And I fucking loved her uncle, he was hilarious, always trying to sound cool and shit, which ended up putting a smile on her face. It was cute. I can’t wait to know more about the bomb that was dropped at end of the book, I’m so fucking excited!
I thought this book in a series of 4 Bk’s was just amazing. I fell in love with Ember and her take no crap attitude who’s been trained as a MMA fighter. She’s dealing with the grief of losing her mom and finding out she has other family she never knew about.
They’ve come to take her back with them to Canada far from New York and her best friend Tommy, but soon trouble comes knocking as she starts her 1st day of school at Precious Blood Academy.
This is only book 1 and the foundation is set for the next 3 books as this arthur introduces you to the players and boy does this book check all my favorite boxes…dark, dirty talking, bad mouthing hot af bad boy’s, angst is all in this book, and some of the hottest smexy times.
I wondered at one point if the arthur didn’t make Ember a little to tough, but when your dealing with gang’s and being a MMA fighter plus growing up in NY your bound to develop a tough hide, so it’s point on.
Bring on the rest of these book’s. I’m so ready.
Through the Pain is completely different than I was expecting.
It starts off sort of hazy. It’s not a dark book more like your typical tough girl/tough boy high school drama. However, once it hits about 80% bam! Story gets twisted, so many things get thrown at you all at once, and then left on a cliff hanger.
It was a good read, and couldn’t stop reading.
Wow what a crazy ride!
This is the first book in Whitsborough series and first half was more of a build up for the story and characters. But once it picked up I just couldn’t put it down!
I read it in one sitting and, after that ending, I’m starting the next book right away!
Ember is such a strong, badass young woman! I instantly fell in love with her sass and snark. And she definitely found her match in Vin! Their chemistry was explosive and I can’t wait to see more of their relationship. I hope we’ll get more of Vin’s POV in the next book.
This book was a fast-pace read that had me hooked with likable characters and interesting storyline with lots of twists and turns. While most of it was high school drama, things turned darker towards the end and I can’t wait for more!
I really enjoyed this book. The storyline I found was really original as it’s pretty rare that the fmc is the stronger one in the relationship and Ember definitely is although that doesn’t take anything away from Vin as I loved his character; strong in front of everyone but her.
I can’t wait to start the next book!
Highly recommend!
What a ride.
Here I am reading Through the Pain. This is my first time reading this author and I am enjoying it. The storyline is original. I love Ember’s fire and her snark. She has me constantly smiling. She’s my spirit animal. I love the relationship she has with Vin and I love the second chance she is getting to have a great life.
However, as I continue reading, I am failing to see how this is a “dark” read. Maybe my idea of dark is just a little more than most?
And then… SHIT HITS THE FAN. And oh the delicious darkness I crave!
It goes from teen drama and angst to holy shit really fast and no matter where you are in the story, it’s hard to put down. It is so fast paced and when it’s over, you are left reeling at the revelations. I definitely can’t wait to start the next book
This is the first book in the Whitsborough Chronicles, and the story of Ember. When Ember loses her mother in a tragic accident, she is sent to live with her estranged family, and a life time of secrets, are revealed. This was a great read, the characters are well written, and their story kept me engaged, i can’t wait to continue in book two. This is emotional, raw, gritty, intense, dark, twisted, mysterious, suspenseful, and dramatic.
This is book 1 in the whitsborough chronicles. I went into this book. It knowing anything about the story line and I absolutely loved it. Ember is a female alpha personality. It’s always just been her and her mom getting through tough times. When tragedy strikes ember has to endure all new struggles and figure out her place in the world.
Ember has always taken care of herself and when she meets these new people in her life it’s a struggle to let them care for her.
Ember and Vin have this push and pull relationship but the difference is that they don’t let anyone come between them. She’s a hotheaded firecracker and he’s the laid back let my girl take control of the situation but if you mess up I will dominate.
All in all I loved this book!
This is a Dark MF Romance.
You might be triggered and you might not. Read at your own risk.
What a great story. Ember went through a lot in her life. She is strong, smart and a fighter. She meets her match. At the end we find some disturbing news but she gets herself out of the trouble she faces. The ending leaves us with questions but I can’t wait to read more.
This is my first book by this author and let me tell you it did not disappoint!!
What can I say about this book is WOW I FREAKING LOVED IT. The main girl is strong willed, beautiful and takes no s***!!! Nothing I love more than a strong lead!!
So many twist and turns!!
I can’t wait for book 2
This book was a quick read to introduce us to Ember and her new misfit crew. Ember is a different breed of monster and she dominates with a take no prisoners attitude. She’s witty and unapologetic for person she is. She’s not so much broken as she is fractured and seeing her mend those fractures is going to be a wild ride. This is a series that I think is great for those who like to read something fast paced and easy to absorb. It is on the darker side but I’d say on a scale from 1-5, 5 being the darkest, this would be a 2 on the scale. In my opinion, however it’s said that the books get darker so proceed with caution.
OMFG IM SPEECHLESS…this book is i was hooked and couldn’t put it down.. just amazing I can’t articulate the right words to describe this book.. and that ending wtf @c.a.rene why you got to go throw that at the damn end if the book.. I just can’t.. so good so so damn good.. ember is a freaking badass and I just looove her.. and her best friend Adri is perfect those 2 together are hilarious.. so much yassss to this book.. now excuse me I need to go read book 2 now with that ending..
Ember has lived a hard life for a girl so young. She and her mom live in New York and barely get by. Her mom worked 2 job to support them. She got in with some shady people to try to help make ends meet. When the worst happens she finds out she has an aunt and uncle she knew nothing about. She has to move to Canada to live with them. There she meets Adrianna, Travis and Vincent. There’s a swirl of secrets between them and she might be the one to help them get their &h!t together. Ember is a firecracker. Her and Vin have a constant push and pull relationship. She is strong willed, opinionated and doesn’t give a damn about other people’s opinions. Her Aunt Debby and Uncle Scott are amazing. It had a little bit of everything humor, angsty teens with their own problems, and some very interesting dark secrets. There were a few times where I wanted smack some sense into people. That ending blew my mind! I love it! I highly recommend this series!
I recieved an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The thought of blood makes my heart rate increase and I feel that familiar pull deep in my gut.
I went into this book blind. I didn’t read the blurb, I didn’t know what it was about, I looked at the cover and dove in head first with my arm floaties. C.A. DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I FUCKING LOVE THIS BOOK AND AM GOING STRAIGHT TO BOOK 2.
This book is full of hilarious banter and a strong badass FMC that fights. When a tragic event happens to Ember, her entire life is uprooted and changes for the better. She discovers family that she didn’t know she had, gains new friends, falls in love with a soul just as dark as hers and leaves her old gang life behind. Or so she thought…. She is faced with life or death, but that choice is taken from her in the name of protecting whats most important. There are twists and turns that were hinted at, but i was mind fucked with the end. A little lube would have been nice for that one C.A.
