An Indie Bestseller! An Indie Next Pick! “Asbury High is a quick paced, Scooby-Doo-esque story that features a strong storyline and even stronger bonds of friendship. [It] is a mystery that will appeal to anyone that enjoys a light and fun sleuth story featuring a group of likable young amateur detectives.” (Indies Today, ★★★★★) Available in paperback now too! Poison.Sick shoobies.Suspicious … paperback now too!
Poison.
Sick shoobies.
Suspicious bullies.
And a new, boardwalk pancake house.
Is their favorite hangout to blame for recent food poisonings? Or is there something more sinister at work?
After an unprecedented first year of high school, the gang is ready for a relaxing summer vacation, although in Asbury, that may be easier said than done. This summer, the Food Network is running a summer special highlighting local hot spots, Carly, Maddie, Pilot and Cornelious are psyched to have the world’s best restaurant featured—their very own Brady’s!
However, after patrons start falling ill, shoobies and locals alike point the finger at Brady’s and rumors of food poisoning. When Brady’s threatens to close its doors, Pilot realizes his mother’s job is in jeopardy, as well as his future in Asbury. With the aid of Cornelious’ wealthy cousin Dane, who spends every summer with the quartet, the gang is once again thrust into an investigation. Unfortunately, they find themselves thwarted by both the local police (who believe their recent success was due to luck, rather than skill), and Cornelious’ father, who has decided to run for Mayor of Asbury and cautions his son on the need to maintain a spotless public image.
With a new pancake house on the boardwalk, Mainlanders invading their beaches, and the Pitbulls sneaking around and terrorizing shoobies (as usual), there’s no shortage of suspects. But can they solve the case before the summer, and Brady’s, are finished?
Asbury High and the Parcels of Poison is the second book in a young adult cozy mystery series that fans of Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys and Scooby Doo will love.
Amazon Reviews:
“I was flying through this one! Asbury High and The Thief’s Gamble introduced us readers to a friendship of four sleuths who endure what it is to enter high school while taking down evil-doers. This initial book laid the groundwork so well, truly giving the reader genuine insight to the town and all the characters. It’s as if we’re embarking on this journey with them.”
“Asbury High and the Parcels of Poison by Kelly Brady Channick is tremendous, and I can’t wait to get around to reading the next book eventually. I love this group of kids and how they are all very different, but they work great as friends.”

FANTASTIC! Loved the teen sleuths..second book I read!! Smelled the salt air on the Boardwalk, where most of the crime takes place..DEFINITELY recommend..Quick, n funny..I never saw the end coming!!
I enjoyed Asbury High and the Parcels of Poison by Kelly Brady Channick. It’s the second in the Asbury High series, but I didn’t need to read the first to understand what was going on.
The characters were delightful, even though I don’t see them as the Scooby Gang, like a lot of people have described them (I think you need a dog for that). I loved how the characters were friends and supported each other. And I loved Carley’s parents. They weren’t stereotypical, though there were a bit absent. I wasn’t fond of Neal’s dad or his never-seen mother, but the AI had a cruddy attitude enough for her.
The mystery was interesting. People are falling over with food poisoning during the summer, all while a suspicious new pancake house is opened next to the gang’s favorite hangout. The author dropped clues throughout the book that figuring out the culprit was easy enough, but I’m a lot older than the target audience.
Again, I’m not normally a YA reader, but this book was so engaging that I will go back to read the rest of the series and recommend it to the teenagers I know. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting an enjoyable read that reminds you of Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys.
i loved this book!. The characters are like my friends. They are smart and funny and wind up in crazy predicaments. When they put their heads together, they can always find a solution to the mystery! I am onto book 3!!
Second in the series might even be better than the first – 4.5
It’s the summer after their first year of high school and the gang’s set to enjoy the beach and meals at their favorite pancake/taco place. Oddly, a new pancake house opens up right next door but their food is frozen and awful. When the citizens of Asbury start experiencing violent food sickness, Brady’s is forced to shut down while a peculiar health inspector investigates. Meanwhile, Pilot, Maddie, Carly and Cornelious are their usual observant selves and start noticing clues they don’t yet realize are pertinent to their own investigation.
As with the first Asbury High novel, I found Parcels of Poison through the Karma Reviewing Program and I’m hooked. As I’ve gotten to know each of the main characters, I’m really enjoying the teasers of a possible relationship beyond friendship for two of them. For me, this second book was more enjoyable for the relative absence of megalomaniacal Papa Gibbz, as well as improved editing. Yet again, Channick delivers an enjoyable YA read that engages adult readers, too.
Asbury High and the Parcels of Poison by Kelly Brady Channick is another fantastic version of a Scooby-Doo book that I love.
Can the gang figure out why Brady’s customers’ are getting food poisoning?
The gang
The gang is back again to solve another mystery. Okay, okay with help from Cornelious’s cousin but not by much. They are still pretty much the same as they were in the first book but just without the added stress of their first year in high school. The only exception is that two of them are dating and that Maddie is getting hit on by Dane, Cornelious’s cousin, and Neal isn’t too happy about that. I have to say that I love seeing how the whole thing unfolds in this book. Especially with the dynamic between these four friends and how well they know each other.
The Mystery
The mystery for this one happens to be, why would anyone want to bring down Brady’s? The gang’s favorite hang out spot. Well, that answer is a significant spoiler, so you will have to read the book to find out. Besides that, it is all about trying to figure out what type of food poisoning and the reasoning behind it. It’s just a very intricate mystery, and I love the little riddle about a treasure that has been buried since Asbury’s founding days. That was cute and how that might take a spin that I wasn’t excepting. Don’t fall for the red herrings in this one.
Five Stars
Asbury High and the Parcels of Poison by Kelly Brady Channick is tremendous, and I can’t wait to get around to reading the next book eventually. I love this group of kids and how they are all very different, but they work great as friends. Including now in high school, and so many of them doing extracurricular activities away from their core group of friends. Despite that, they still care about each other and try to be there for one another. My rating is five stars, and I’m recommending to anyone that enjoys some teenage detectives solving mysteries.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Great Escape Book Tours. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
