I really wanted to love this one. I really felt for Jimmy and his closed off ways. I just couldn’t get into this book because from the beginning it seemed as though because Jimmy turned to her for comfort after Mal’s moms death that she was suddenly all into him. When from the beginning of the series others have observed the way Lena looked at Jimmy and thought that she felt something for him. In order for her to get over him and keep her job, Jimmy suggest her dating to get over her feelings for him. This leads to her going on dates with Ben, Reese, and Dean. All are not that great and Jimmy gets in the middle of each of her dates. Needless to say its a disaster from the beginning.
Its clear that Jimmy is jealous of Lena going on dates and thinks no one is good enough for her. Lena and Jimmy are very close and he pays close attention to her, even knowing her favorite foods, alcoholic beverage, and movies. She is truly supportive of him and is always there to defend him. It honestly took too long for Jimmy to get a clue as to his feelings for Lena. It took till the very end for him to see that he loved her. He acted childish the whole time and I was over it. I was so over Lena acting like a lovesick puppy chasing after Jimmy’s tail. Her weak attempts to get over him and Jimmy being clueless. I get that his mother did a real number on him and I really felt for him. I liked that he opened up to Lena about his past and it explained a lot about his character. But jeez he was so closed off. The only emotion he knew how to display was anger. So I lost interest in this romance very quick.
So as much I ended up liking Jimmy. This romance just didn’t do it for me.
loved this book, it was a great fast read.
Book 3 is Lead, Jimmy Ferris, brother to David and also the lead singer of Stage Dive is the epitome of your typical bad boy rocker, too many women, too many drugs and too much alcohol. After being given an ultimatum to either clean up or leave the band, he chooses the high road. Enter Lena, who somehow finds herself as the sober companion for rock and roll’s bad boy. She is determined to keep their relationship professional, she’s had enough trouble with bad boys in her past and this job is a much needed break for her.
To say that Jimmy doesn’t do feelings well is an understatement, “he sat on the edge of my bed. His broad shoulders seemed to have fallen by half a foot at least. “You have, you’ve been effing crying. I don’t believe you.” Lena she has some balls, and well the way Jimmy is I applaud her for sticking it out and going to those extreme measures now and then, “get some ice,” Jimmy directed, kneeling beside me. “Lena, what the hell did you think you were doing? You’re not strong enough to kick in doors, for eff’s sake.” It’s funny before the sex, it already felt like these two were a damn married couple but then add the sex and all hell breaks loose, “eff’s sake. Can we not argue when we’re having sex? Please?” I was so proud with how Jimmy turned out (I know it feels like I’m talking about a kid who graduated high school) but honestly Jimmy was I don’t really know how to describe Jimmy he needed work and Lena put that work in and results started to come, slowly, but they started to come, “thick steely arms froze into position around me. “Jimmy, are you actually hugging me?” A grunt. “Okay, you’re doing very well.” I set my chin on his chest and looked up at him. “I’m proud of you.” I’m excited for Ben’s story his should be a doozie
Lead was a good read. I can’t say it was my favorite book in the series but it was still worth reading. If you enjoy the Stage Dive series thus far, you will want to read this book. With Jimmy being the “tough” one I just expected a little more. Mal however will still have you laughing with his antics. I will be reading the next book in the series to get Ben’s story.
