Fortuity is one of the most anticipated books ever for me. The Transcend Duet blew my mind and has stayed in my heart all this time. So to finally have Nate’s story… I am just so happy. I don’t know if I laughed more or cried more during this book, but let me tell ya- I did both, A LOT. I snort laughed so hard, and sobbed like a baby. This story is just beautiful. It’s such a perfect HEA for Nate. I love Gracelyn and the kids. I want to be a part of this amazing family. Gah! I just never wanted this book to end. If you like unique, emotional reads, you can’t miss the Transcend series. This book can be read as a standalone, but I would not recommend that, as there are spoilers. Start with Transcend and you’ll want to devour these incredible stories!
“Hope shouldn’t shackle the heart; it should free it.”
It has been more than two years since I read a book by Jewel E. Ann, and I regret taking this long because I really missed her writing. Fortuity was such a fun book to read, and it hooked me right from the start. This is the third book in the Transcend series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. I haven’t read the first two books, and didn’t personally feel like I was missing any essential information. I connected to the main characters Nate and Gracelyn right away, and was looking forward to seeing how their story would develop. Both are in their forties (which I loved): Gracelyn is 41 and Nate is 46. Nate is a single father of the ten year old Morgan, and Gracelyn just received custody of her ten year old nephew Gabriel. They meet when they become neighbors at a beachfront home in San Diego.
“Our capacity to love grows with time. It grows with every new person who touches our lives. So I love you more because my heart is bigger.”
The dynamic of the relationships between all the characters was absolutely amazing. I just couldn’t get enough, and I especially loved Nate’s daughter Morgan. She is such a smart young lady, and I loved her bond with her dad. This book was hilarious, emotional at times, and very sexy. The growth of Nate and Gracelyn’s relationship felt very organic. Besides the romantic relationship between the main characters, I also enjoyed seeing them grow as individuals. They both had things they had to deal with and heal. Jewel E. Ann is a phenomenal writer, and I really need to go back and read the books I haven’t yet. I highly recommend Fortuity to readers who enjoy light and fun contemporary romances. Also if the single parent trope is one of your favorites, then I think you’ll enjoy this book even more.
Fortuity is one of the most anticipated books ever for me. The Transcend Duet blew my mind and will stay with me forever. I am delighted to finally have Nate’s story. I fell in love with this story from the get go, the very first page pulled me in, and that last page left me happy and completely satisfied. This was such a fun, laugh out loud, light hearted with all the feels thrown into it kind of book. A must read!
Fortuity was everything I hoped for and more. An emotional journey brought completely full circle. I finished this book with my heart soaring and a huge smile on my face. Simply brilliant.
Have I already told you guys how much I LOVE JEWEL E ANN?No ? You are SO LYING. I bet you all are sick of me talking about Jewel’s books but guess what I WONT STOP. This woman is a CHAMELEON. There’s no book or genre that she has write that I haven’t love. Her stories are brilliant, original and so well developed. She’s my UNICORN and Fortuity isn’t an exception.
I been dreaming of getting this book ever since I read the last page of Epoch on September 2018. I had no idea if Jewel would actually get to write it but I felt it in my heart I needed an additional story( ok fine I’ll be honest I just want all of her stories). Hell I even gladly read her grocery shopping list.
Imagine my euphoria when we got the news of a new addition to the Transcend books.
I finished Fortuity with a full and happy heart. I couldn’t ask for a better story for Professor Nathaniel Hunt. I read the last page and a sigh of complete joy left my lips. I was completely consume and invested in this characters. They felt like part of me and that’s one of the reasons this series is one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE from Jewel. Before you ask, YES I have read every single one of her books.
The ability of making me cry and laugh at the same time is uniquely Jewel. Fortuity has a bit of everything. It was super funny, emotional, endearing and passionate. I just want to go back and read the whole series again. I don’t want to leave this characters. It was an INCREDIBLE and UNFORGETTABLE second chance at love read.
This is Nate and Gracelyn’s story. Nate, Nate, Nate!!, sigh!!! The man is incredible. Not only is he gorgeous, he’s also an amazing human being and father. Nate is back in the states after 8 year traveling the world with his vibrant, intelligent, quirky 10 year old daughter Morgan. I should say 10 going on 30 with this girl. The things that come out of her mouth made me double over in laughter. They get to spent their last summer before going home in California where life brought them to Grace and Gabe.
Grace is quirky and beautiful. Also single and recently became the guardian of her nephew Gabe. He is your typical 10 year old boy. Interested in sports, games, internet but definitely NOT GIRLS or how much they talk and talk. I crack up every time these two kids got together.
I love the banter, the family bond all the characters develop. Even the secondary characters like Mr. Hans were so lovable. All the playfulness and family atmosphere was a perfect combination to make this book feel like a romantic comedy. I couldn’t get enough.
Fortuity is book 3 of the Transcend series, originally was a duet ( Transcend and Epoch). It can be read as a standalone but keep in mind that you will get spoilers in here from the previous 2 books. If you ask me I say READ THEM ALL IN ORDER. GET THE BOOK I % recommended them to you.
When the Transcend Duet was still that, a duet, Jewel E. Ann was a “new to me” author, and when I started the Duet, I really did not know what would hit me…
Reading Transcend and Epoch was a huge revelation for me.
I fell in love with Jewel’s writing, and those books started my undying love for her stories.
So, you can imagine how excited I was when she announced this third book.
But I must admit I also felt a little nervous, since I had several bad experiences with books added to previous standalones/duets/series/sagas. In some cases, I just wished I could “unread” said last book, and in some very rare ones (but sadly, it happened) said last book ruined the whole series.
But rest assured ladies, Jewel E. Ann being Jewel-One-Of-My-Unicorn-Authors, FORTUITY “needed” to be written.
This love story “perfects the perfection” that are both Transcend and Epoch.
Jewel did an amazing job, bringing a side of Nate I totally adored, and giving life to a wonderful forty-something Gracelyn (yeah! a woman-my-age-who-gets-her-own-shot-to-a-sexy-romance!!!), and also supporting characters you’ll love too.
The only problem with this book is you can’t say which character you love the most: adults, children, they are all amazing and adorable.
After several emotional reads in the past weeks, I needed something “lighter”, something funny, and Jewel gave it to me: I laughed and swooned so hard!
This love story is sexy, funny, and touching.
Getting to read about Nate and Morgan 8 years after the Duet took place, but also about my beloved characters from the Duet was wonderful, a gift from the author!
Speaking about Morgan: Gabe and her will own your heart
But of course, Jewel being Jewel… She can’t (or won’t) write a love story with zero angst!
So get ready to laugh (a lot), get hot too, and emotional.
And yes, this book is the perfect conclusion for Transcend and Epoch.
There are very few story tellers as talented as Jewel E. Ann. Trust me, I read ALL her books, endured all sorts of those emotional tortures she loves to inflict to her readers: you need to read this book. The whole series.
On a final note, I want to thank the author for giving us this book. For giving Nate his own book.
Another read to join my 2020 Favorite Reads List!

I loved it so hard! The entire story is refreshing.
I had the best time while reading that I’ve had in a looong time if not ever. I mean I laughed out loud so many times. I had laughing and crying tears.
~ ~ THEN.
I’d be fanning myself cause there was definitely some heat and chemistry between these two characters that could not be more perfect for each other.
~ ~ THEN.
I’d be swooning all kinds. Nate was the sweetest single daddy ever! -(I want one!!!)-. Not only is Nate a great father who always put his daughter first. He is the most thoughtful and romantic man to his woman *sigh* So beautiful.
As you can probably tell by now. This story has all the feels. All the beautiful and happy feels.
Gave and Morgan are the children in this story and they “MADE” this book just as much as Nate and Gracelyn.
These 4 were soo much fun. I loved them all.
“Love isn’t an emotion. It’s a force.”
One cannot read a Jewel E. Ann book without being touched in some way. She delves deep into your emotions and touches even the tiniest bits that you don’t realize are in there.
“It was you … the idea of you. The dream of you.”
Fortuity is inspirational peppered with humour and lots of love, it’s a journey of discovery. I was left feeling raw and broken after Transcend and Epoch. This book healed my feelings, it gave Nate the life he so deserved, the idea of Nate made Gracelyn whole again. Nothing came easy to either one of them.
Shoutout also goes to Morgan, she’s the balm to Nate’s soul.
Fortuity satiated my Nate-pining.
“It’s an honor to be loved by you.”
5 Jamie and Elvis forever STARS
I first met Nathaniel Hunt in the Transcend duet and loved him then. This more mature, grown up, yet laid back Nate, well he’s a revelation and I loved him even more. I have to admit I was definitely obsessed with his Jamie Frazier-like hair in a way I hadn’t been before. I really wanted to run my hands through those curls! Time has moved on and he’s very different from his Transcend persona. I loved him. Did I say that already?
Little Morgan is the most kind, caring, yet forthright and outspoken child ever. Sometimes too smart for her own good, her curiosity and no holds barred questions certainly made Nathaniel and Gracelyn break out in a cold sweat a time or two. She was hysterical and I couldn’t help but crack up at some of her comments. A confident girl most of the time, I detected a hint of uncertainty behind some of her bravado, which was actually very sweet.
Nate and Gracelyn are fantastic together and I was particularly excited to see that they were both in their 40’s, that their life experiences meant they reacted to certain situations in a way I myself could relate to. Don’t get me wrong, mature in age they may have been, but that didn’t stop them having fun together and throwing caution to the wind on occasion. Their humor and witty banter was priceless, not to mention the hilarious situations they found themselves in.
This may essentially be Nathaniel and Gracelyn’s story, but everyone had a pivotal part to play and no more so than Mr Hans and Gabe, who were both amazing. They had hugely important roles and were so much more than merely supporting characters.
There were, of course, a few serious moments along the way, but despite the circumstances which brought these characters together, the book is touching at times but doesn’t dwell on sadness. This story is about living and loving and is the most wonderful mixture of fun and funny, sweet and sexy, romantic and unexpected love. This book gave me feelings I’m struggling to explain with words. Perfect, that’s one word I’d use, joy is another. There was absolutely nothing I disliked, nothing I’d change, and it was exactly what I needed. I adored it. It’s one of those rare books that I want to read all over again, to experience it for the first time. Simply put, this book made me happy and now my heart is full.
Jewel E. Ann has a gift and it always results with me in tears. After finishing Fortuity I can say Mission accomplished! This book has it all. Pure comedy gold. Fantastic characters and I mean every single one of them and a well developed story. I’ve read Transcend and Epoch but Fortuity can be read as a stand-alone. But for me having read those two books only made Fortuity that more special to me.
Nathaniel Hunt and his daughter Morgan. I was ecstatic when I learned that they would get their own story. OMG what a wonderful, heartfelt and hilarious story it was. I just want to shout from the rooftops or in my case balcony to read this book. Gracelyn and her nephew Gabe complemented Nate and Morgan so well. The friendships and chemistry were amazing. Absolutely Spot on!
I have to mention Morgan. The clever and cute ten year old girl who has a world of knowledge for such a young age captured my heart instantly. Her remarks and her spunky personality fitted the story so well. She definitely made Nate and Gracelyn sweat a couple of time. Fantastic.
Nate and Gracelyn was a joy to follow and experience. Their chemistry was insane and their growing friendship left me with goosebumps and tingles.
It’s not easy being a single parent and especially when you’ve experienced the loss of loved ones. As funny as Fortuity was it also had its serious moments and it suited the story. It was the perfect balance and only made me want to stay with these people.
Fortuity is a brilliant romantic comedy that also has its intense and serious moments. It’s a mature romance with so much heart. What really made Fortuity shine was its characters. This is an ensemble where every character brought something to the story.
Nate and Gracelyn was so worth the wait. I used to be team Grocery Guy but now I’m leaning towards Team Nate. What a book!
5+ Kiss Stealer Stars
This was my first book from Jewel E. Ann and I loved it. It felt like the perfect summer read. Fortuity is about 40ish Gracelyn (which I LOVED) who is on a man ban but in walks Nathaniel Hunt with his chatterbox daughter Morgan. Gracelyn had unexpectedly found herself in charge of her nephew and with a new place to live came fabulous new neighbors and a hilarious landlord. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the adults and children in this book. The different ways we raise them and how to love after loss. Also Gracelyn in all her clutzy crazy ways was really fun to read about! Great book!
This book is the much anticipated addition to The Transcend Duet. It’s a beautiful heartfelt story that made my heart skip a beat a few times as I devoured each and every page.
Fortuity is the soul-stirring journey of Nate and Gracelyn two lonely single parents in their forties who find love when they least expect it. It’s about them finally letting go of their pasts, their pain and taking a leap of faith.
Nathaniel Hunt is a character who owns you heart and soul from the very beginning. It’s impossible not to love the globetrotting technology hating Professor. This single father will melt your heart along with his strong minded and very opinionated young daughter Morgan, they’re a team in every sense of the word.
I absolutely adored Gracelyn so much. I admired the way she embraced motherhood to look after her nephew. She’s quirky, witty, independent and down to earth. It’s easy to see why Nate was so enamoured with her.
I laughed my ass off at the witty banter, cried ugly tears that hurt my heart but I swooned so hard too. Nate may of had a 10 year dry spell but DAMN! the guy had moves.
I fell head over heels in love with all the characters in this amazing story. There were so many overwhelming emotions that I didn’t just read them, I felt them too.
Don’t hesitate to pick up this contemporary romance, it definitely has that extra special Jewel Magic.
Rated 4.5 Stars
I had hoped that Nate would get his story told but never thought it would actually happen. I was over the moon excited when I saw it was coming as well as nervous. It was amazing. It’s funny, so very funny I lost count of how many times I laughed out loud. It’s also sexy and heartwarming. Gracelyn was the perfect heroine for Nate. They complemented each other well. I loved their journey. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
