Edith Wilson is twenty-two years old, has never had a London Season, and suspects she never will. Limited finances mean Edith is left ignored while her beautiful younger sisters receive every opportunity. Longing for her mother’s approval, Edith agrees to trap an earl against her better judgment, hoping for a chance at the loving marriage she’s always desired. Yet once she meets the handsome … earl, she doesn’t have the heart to ruin his happily ever after.
Miles is extremely wealthy, titled, and single with no intention of ever falling in love again. His first wife taught him how horrible a one-sided marriage could be. When a young woman appears at his hunting lodge set on ensnaring him, he will do anything to keep her away, including lying and betting with a disreputable rogue. But when she walks away from a chance to force him to propose, he regrets his actions. Will he be able to right his wrongs before Edith falls prey to the rake he set on her path?

This is a good book with a very good plot, but suffers from inadequate editing. However, I decided to cut the author some slack since this is her debut novel and simply enjoyed the read. My hope is that on future releases, she can achieve better editing and eliminate the various mistakes.
Edith is the most developed character and I liked her. I liked seeing her learn to stand up for herself and go after what was best for her and not what someone else thought was best.
The other characters, including Miles, could use some more character development. It’s not terrible, just lacking in parts. For example, I never learned Miles’ age. I like knowing those details.
One of the best features of the book is the theme that a person’s character is valued above a person’s appearance.
All in all, a fun read and I look forward to reading more from this author. If you can suspend reality in parts, I think you’ll enjoy it too.
Romance – PG / kissing
Language – PG / nothing offensive
My rating – 4 stars
I enjoyed reading this book! The man in this story was once married and his wife died in childbirth. The love interest is a woman who is not really beautiful but has a great personality. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance books.
I absolutely loved Tammi Lee Bird’s debut novel, “An Earl for Edith.” It was fresh, exciting and a great addition to it’s genre. Full of strong, well-written characters, witty dialogue and surprises on every page. I was pleasantly surprised with the way the story went within the first chapters. Who knew upfront honesty could make a book much more exciting.
As I watched Edith grow and become a strong woman through the book I’ll be honest, my heart swelled with pride. She was such a relatable character for me and I loved her. And Miles, don’t even get me started. He’s dreamy. And on top of this, Tammi Lee Bird knows how to write a kiss. It was magic. “An Earl for Edith” was an excellent read and I cannot wait for Bird’s next novel!
*I received a complimentary copy from the author. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas are my own.
I really enjoyed this book! I loved that it wasn’t your typical Regency romance. Sure there’s a main character and she eventually falls in love. But her path to getting there was not what the reader would have expected.
Right from the very first chapter, this book is different. Edith’s mother is determined to trap a poor, unsuspecting earl into marrying her. But she goes about it in such a strange way. She gets Edith alone with the earl, but only after she’s made the poor girl a tad drunk. I have to admit that this part was super funny!
I had to feel a bit sorry for Edith. Her mother was the worst! I could not believe the unkind things she said to her. Or the way she was always doing mean things. But Edith just went along with her, especially at first. I loved the way Edith changed through the book. She went from being a bit spineless to a young woman who knew she had worth. And that made her beautiful.
I really liked Miles as well. I liked the relationship he had with his daughter. He’d been hurt before and really didn’t want to open his heart again. He fought so hard not to love. But he was the reason that Edith blossomed the way he did. These two were perfect for each other.
I loved everything about this debut novel. I hope the author is busily writing more!
I was sent an e-copy of An Earl for Edith as a gift from the author. All opinions are my own.
This book had me captivated in the first couple of pages! I had to laugh out loud during parts of the book. If you love regency then you will love this one. I can’t wait to read more from her, and hope that she continues with some of the characters from this book.
Edith was a great leading lady and I enjoyed seeing her go after what she wanted. Miles reluctance to wed again, and to fall in love, was well-developed. The plot was fun. The book had a lot of errors–sentence fragments, misused titles, incorrect punctuation, etc.–which did detract from the flow and quality of the book.
I read a copy of the book provided by the author. All opinions are my own.
This was a great first book by Tammi Lee Bird. It was a wonderful Regency Romance. I loved how this book was a second chance romance. I loved how Edith learned that true beauty is what is inside a person and not just physical beauty. I loved how the earl had to overcome his aversion to possible being hurt again in order to take a chance on a love that will last. I loved the schemes that both the earl and Edith engaged in as they tried to follow their hearts. This was an fun, entertaining read.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
An Earl for Edith is a sweet and fun debut novel by Tammi Lee Bird. This book definitely shows the author’s promise and makes me excited for more books to come. I enjoyed the characters and that Edith, while trying to please her mother and be obedient to her wishes, was noble enough to take her life (and inadvertently Mile’s) into her own hands. This was a fun story as the two use honest communication to really develop a true relationship with one another. I like how the characters grew to love each other even when they weren’t so sure they wanted to.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was humorous to see Edith trying desperately to thwart her mothers machinations only to find herself falling for the object she was trying to prevent herself from trapping and she had ample opportunity to trap him into marriage. I loved that she respected herself enough to want more. This book was a delight and the kissing was warm enough to warrant a bit of a swoon, while still staying within the rules of propriety. The bet and gamble only added to the fun and all was happily situated in the end as any good romance should be. I look forward to more delightful stories from this author.
I received an eArc from the author and this is my honest opinion. I will definitely be adding this to my shelves when I get the chance.
The book instantly pulls you into the story with immediately diving into into Edith’s mother’s scheme. Bird does a great job at keeping the story interesting and unique. There were several surprising humorous scenes and several times I was surprised by the direction the story went. This story isn’t the typical Regency Romance. Bird does a good job at adding fresh story elements, characters that standout and a plot that moves fairly quickly. This is a fun, enjoyable read with many humorous moments. I did feel like it took Miles to realize what he needed, but other than that the characters were engaging to me as a reader. This a must read for those who love reading Regency Romance. I would encourage you to check out this book and give it a read.
Please note I received a free e-book to read, however, this is my honest opinion.
I was hooked from the first page! I couldn’t put it down!
Such a fun regency romance from a debut author! I really enjoyed Edith’s character and that she learned to speak her mind and stand up to family members who were demeaning and cruel. The romance between Edith and Miles was very sweet – I loved that they could laugh and tease each other. There were so many fun, awkward, and laugh-out-loud moments in their relationship. I loved it and it made the characters so relatable!
I am hoping that we will get to hear more about George, Miles’ cousin, in a future story. He deserves a HEA too!
I received a complimentary copy of this book but my opinions are my own.
Miles was married to a gem of a woman who wanted nothing to do with him and would insult him. She was only after his title and money. He doesn’t want to marry again but eventually considers it so his young daughter can have a mother.
Edith Wilson meets Miles when she accidentally gets herself drunk while following one of her mother’s many schemes. She ends up spilling far too much information to the earl.
I like that the book starts right in on an interesting scene. The stuff the mother had her daughter do is so messed up.
Edith and Miles at times have some nice moments and discussions but at other times act completely childish regarding their relationship.
“The world was only as big as her blanket, and nothing outside could enter her little sphere of peace.”
Miles has this cute scene with Grace when she has a nightmare. But when he leaves for London there is no mention of her. Miles already spends more time with Grace than was usual during this time, but I still would have liked at least a mention that he wished her farewell.
There were some twists I didn’t see coming and a lot of the side characters interested me. I find myself wanting to know how the lives of Lucy, George, and Archibald turn out.
“Open your heart, and who knows what will happen”
An Earl for Edith is a strong debut novel and I’d like to read more from Tammi Lee Bird.
