What’s this book about? (I’m trying to give as little spoilers as possible)
Ward Maddox is a famous writer with millions of expectations weighing him down. He’s got a book to finish, but nothing’s working. He’s moved to a new house. Help is hired. But all that help does is distract him. Mari Evers lives in her own little world of self-doubts and drama. She gets the job as the help of this elusive writer, but she’s weary. They both have plans, but they end up being derailed.
This is my first Lily Zante read. I went in blind, and it completely mesmerized me. This story was easy to read, entertaining, EMOTIONAL, and most of all highly addictive. It had elements of mystery to it, I felt. This is a dialogue heavy story with lots of angst and tension. The two leads have heavy backstories that make them into very relatable characters. I was more on team Mari, but… Ward is cute, too. He’s got some major issues, but his writer complexes are relatable AF. I love an asocial hero. I don’t like how everyone bullied our lead writer for his writer tendencies!!! That was so rude. Also, to anyone it might concern, if a writer says they don’t want their work shared, THEY MEAN IT. But that doesn’t mean I’m a fan of the escalation that happened afterwards – I’m a 100% team MARI!!! The chemistry between these two was astonishing. From their banter, to their house-sharing, and their steamy scenes, they were lovely to read. Even the discomfort that occurred between them at times was hilarious. I rooted for them to solve their issues, and get their happy endings. But, life happens, and things aren’t always that easy. Things escalate quickly, and Lily Zante makes you work REALLY hard for that HEA. But in the end, this slow burn romance was all worth it. I recommend this story to all the writers, asocial sweethearts, and strong ladies that overcome their struggles.
The Price of Inertia by Lily Zante is the fourth book in the Seven Sins series. It can be read as a standalone. This is a contemporary romance story.
Each of the books in the series deals with one of the seven sins. This one is about sloth, and I like how it’s set up in this book.
This book is about two people who have been kinda set up together. Ward’s agent sends him to a mansion to write his book and hires Mari to clean for him. So it’s kinda inevitable they end up together. They do have many obstacles to overcome before they can live happily ever after, but it’s all so much more interesting.
Ward is very brooding and rude at the beginning, but it’s awesome to see when he starts to warm up to Mari. Always one of my favourite parts of books. I love how their relationship grows throughout the book.
This book is very emotional – for the reader too. I was crying at one point and in the next screaming at the characters when they were being stupid. This book made me feel all the feelings, one big rollercoaster.
The book was very well written and I liked the plot.
This book was awesome, and I’ll definitely read more books from this author.
I received a free ARC copy of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions are my own.
This story is angsty and a bit sad. Mari and Ward do seem to be soul mates. But it is a long hard road for them. Ward is a best selling horror writer who has writers block. Mari is the house keeper hired to keep things running. Ward is very tight lipped. He had a horrendous childhood. Mari has a big heart. Slowly as they begin to communicated they fall for one another. But there is more than one obstacle keeping them apart. They work hard for their Happy Ending and that makes it all the better!
This is the fourth book in the Seven Sins series. This book captured my attention right from the start and had me immersed in the story all the way through. So many emotions and feelings play through in this deeply emotional and detailed story. Both characters, especially Ward had deep scars that needed healing. He experienced so much trauma in his early life and as a result put up borders which Marianne with much care and caution started slowly breaking through. This was a heartbreaking and touching story that I just could not put down. The characters were so well-developed playing out a strong and heart wrenching storyline, and they showed such great personalities and strength, I became totally invested in the outcome of the story. It’s a beautifully crafted story of strength, healing, and finding love. Ms. Zante has a wonderful talent for bringing the story to life with her writing. I really loved this book and am looking forward to reading more of her books.

An intensely emotional roller-coaster. Maybe I am biased, as Lily is one of my favourite contemporary romance writers, but I loved this book. The author manages to bring to life a new story with every new novel that isn’t a carbon copy of the recipe so many others use. There is never a repetition or a drop in the quality of her writing. Her language is character and scene-appropriate with good use of vocabulary. Both Mari and Ward the horror writer are people with deep emotional scars but Ward on top of his artistic temperament had systematically been traumatised during most of his childhood. It isn’t hard therefore to imagine the resulting personality, turning him into a reclusive, introverted, rude slob, without a shred of social graces. In comes, Mari, having just lost her job, her home with a mother in a Nursing home which requires payment and freshly out of a relationship with a cheating so and so. Ward isn’t your run-of-the-mill character and Mari has to learn to stay within boundaries. The novel is about the breaking down of those boundaries, the development of sizzling physical attraction and an emotional attachment in spite of the volatile ups-and-downs of two people who are more comfortable with their assumptions than open dialogue. Anyone who has experienced loss in their lives will emphasise with the raw emotion that the author describes in detail when Mari loses her Mum. I cried but that’s all right. Despite it looking impossible from certain events, there is a HEA in the end, as no amount of pain the protagonists cause one another, negates the fact that they are soulmates. I would most highly recommend this novel.

What does not break you makes you stronger…..but sometimes you can’t see the way through
The Price of Inertia is the fourth book in The Seven Sins series by Lily Zante. This is the story of Marianne “Mari” Evers and Ward Maddox. This books deals with the deadly sin of sloth.
Ward is an author who is lazy about life. He does not like to be around people, he is excessively overweight, has a bad case of writers block, has a deadline looming and seems to be spiraling downward fast. His agent decides that he needs a major change to jar him out of his inertia and hires a live-in cook/housekeeper/workout partner for Ward.
Mari is a young woman whose life has spiraled out of control through no fault of her own. She has recently lost her job as a hotel front desk clerk, her boyfriend has cheated on her and gotten the other woman pregnant so she is homeless because of it and her mother’s care she has to pay for, as she suffers from Alzheimer’s. As the saying goes “when you are down there is no where to go but up”, well hopefully if what Mari thinks. She needs something quick and decides to take the temporary live-in position which will give her a breather to figure out her next step.
Ward and Mari are two people who are going to have to figure out a way to live under the same roof without ripping each other apart. Ward is not a happy man by any means and his way of dealing with it is destructive, to himself and those around him. Mari is just looking for a way up again and the challenges that Ward presents are many, and at times seem daunting. But if they can both help each other deal with the baggage they are carrying they may be able to forge a future path. Whether that is with each other or alone is something that they will have to decide.
I have read each of the books in this series and have to say that when I started reading The Price of Inertia I was not sure about it. But I got a bit further in and I was hooked. This found the story of Ward and Mari to be the best so far. It is well written with an amazing story-line and a couple characters that are broken in ways but are able to glue themselves back together and are stronger for it.
I received a copy of this book for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
The Price of Inertia is the fourth book in THE SEVEN SINS series by Lily Zante. It is a book full of drama, emotion, meaning, and passion. I am now ready to dive into Lily Zante’s booklist and find more gems.
Ward, a beast of an author plagued with writers’ block and a bad habit of overindulgence of snack food and avoidance of working out, is forced to hire assistants to help keep his life in order. Mari, the beautiful hotel manager turned housekeeper, brings light to the darkness with her food notes, yoga poses, and questions. The sparks fly, first in the kitchen and then eventually in the bedroom when the slow burning fire of passion can no longer be denied between them. And those fires? HOT! But the road of love is a bumpy ride and these two have a lot of trials and tribulations to face before we get to know if the path is one of pain or of forever.
The story is fascinating – well written, with deep meaning and serious themes like dealing with past traumas and great losses. The characters are relatable and likeable… even henh tempers rise as high as the passion lights. I appreciate that the story is written from the point of view of both Ward and Mari so that we really get into the head space of them both and see the different perspectives of their lovestory. The book had me feeling emotions and left a special mark in my reader’s heart. I definitely recommend this story to lovers of angsty and emotional romances that burn slow but ignite bright!
This book is so good…. really loved this one and you do not need to read the first 3 but you can!
