I am a huge fan of Natalia Jaster, having fallen in love with Trick and the whole Foolish Kingdoms series, and then Touch and the entire Selfish Myths series, so I was hanging out to see what Natalia would do with her take on the fae – because let’s face it, who doesn’t love the fae with their magic and beauty and twisty versions of the truth?!
WELL, I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!
If you’ve read Natalia before, you’ll know that her writing is just beautiful, her world building and character development exquiste. she writes with an almost poetic, descriptive quality, that just sucks you in from the first sentence. And if you haven’t read her books before, do yourself a favour and pre-order this one
Without giving too much away, Lark is one of three sisters who flee into Faerie in desperation and as a result, the sisters have to bargain with three powerful fae, three Solitaries, who rule over sky, woodland and river. Three fae for three sisters. Three separate challenges. This is the story of Lark and Cerulean, ruler of the sky.
If you like your books with a great story, complex characters, lots of low key angst, enemies to lovers, slow-burn romance and steamy scenes (yes, this is 18+ so be prepared for some ) then Kiss the Fae is for you.
p.s. how gorgeous is that cover?!
It’s a big 5 recommended read for me.
This is the first book I’ve read by Natalia Jaster. Let me start by stating that I found the story wonderful. I loved the two MCs: Lark and Cerulean. I thought the world building was fantastic. The story had just the right amount of well-written smut. It’s obvious the author is extremely creative. So why not rate it a five? Because all the positive was drowned under purple prose. Holy cow! This book couldn’t have been more purple had it been written by Prince. I estimate that 60% could have been eliminated. And, because I had to wade through the mumbo jumbo, I wasn’t able to fully wrap my head around the trek that Lark was forced to complete, but was never expected to survive. I got the gist of it, but there were intricacies that remained murky because I was in a constant state of translation. It’s painful that this book didn’t reach its potential.
I read the sentence “For fans of Labyrinth” and promptly one clicked this book. I’ve also been on such a fantasy kick lately so here we are. This definitely had a Labyrinth feel and even though nobody can really live up to Jareth it was still enjoyable. I think the pacing was off in some parts, but this is definitely an intriguing world and I’m curious to see where it goes.
I have to be honest, I have spent the last 24 hours going back and forth between three and four stars. Ultimately, I enjoyed the story and I think that is all that counts. So, 4 stars it is!
What I loved, Labyrinth is my favorite movie of ALL TIME! Growing up I dreamed about marrying David Bowie and thought Jareth was the sexiest man of all time. So, I was tickled to read a story loosely based on the movie. And it did not disappoint! Natalia Jaster did such a good job following along with the story while making it completely her own.
I try not to give spoilers in my reviews—but—let’s just say I loved Cerulean, BUT I AM SOOOOO EXCITED ABOUT HIS BROTHERS STORIES!
Now the not so popular opinions . . .
What bugged the ever lovin’ crap out of me . . . and I say this with all the love and respect in the world for the author and all the hard work that went into this book—but girl!!! There were SO many times where unnecessary synonyms were used to the point it would almost make the sentence not make sense. I wanted to shake my kindle and ask to be a Beta reader so I could help avoid this. It does not make you look like a bad writer to use simple words when simple words feel right to the flow of the story. End of tangent.
The other thing that was not my jam was the verb tense. I am not a huge fan of present tense, but that is on me and did not take away from my rating or the enjoyment of the story. Just a thing that would randomly catch me off guard and pull me out of the story.
Lastly, there are a few times (especially in the beginning) where our MC Lark is awkwardly slutty; to the point it feels forced. You can have a promiscuous character without making her talk about sex randomly in the middle of a conversation. But be warned, this book brings the smut! It is New Adult/Adult NOT YA!
Overall, I enjoyed it and very much look forward to the next book that comes out in April!

I had so much fun with this one! This was everything I wanted The Cruel Prince to be. So much more angst + sexual tension mixed in with thrilling fae dynamics and whimsical settings/atmosphere. There is a high focus on animals, both fae and “normal” animals. I really enjoyed this aspect and the creativity behind the magical abilities associated with each. Lark’s confidence in her sexual experiences reminded me a lot about how ACOTAR handled Feyre’s character as well and I’m happy to see more women/teens in books being in control of their body and not always being the shy virgin we see over and over again. I loved the game aspect of this, even though it got sidetracked often. Sometimes I really wanted Lark to actually have to suffer from something in the game just to show true risk but often she got saved before anything actually happened to her. Regardless, it was still loads of fun and super creative! Lark’s relationship with her family was heartwarming and I was sad to see them have to split away in the beginning but I think Lark was able to develop best on her own in this adventure. Can’t wait for the future books!
I just want to start of by saying that I’m so grateful that I got an ARC of this book sent to me by the author and @bookofmediamatches on instagram!
In this dark fairytale we follow a girl that has been through a lot, who now faces a new threat as she accidentally crossed into the land of the Faeries. Lark is given the opportunity to fight for her and her sisters lives, if she manage to get through the mountain labyrinth where noting is as it seems before thirteen days have passed.
The writing in this book is so beautiful I don’t even know how to describe it. It’s beautiful prose with lots of sarcastic and relatable comments coming from the main character. Every character is well built and you will quickly fall in love with them all – and the world is even better. To follow Lark’s (the main character) journey through the world of the faeries was a wild adventure and now I just want to visit that magical, deadly land and see it for myself.
And the romance *swoons*. Slow burn, enemies to lovers, angst, it’s everything you’d ever want (and yes, that includes multiple steamy scenes)
Though some things were very obvious, it was such an amazing read. I’ve been in a reading slump for a loooong time, forcing myself to keep reading, but when picking this book up there was no putting it down.
You need this book. Period.
Thank you again Natalia for sending me this ARC!
This book! I’ve said it before, I have ZERO doubt I’ll say it again, Natalia Jaster is a master. I can never get enough of her gorgeous prose. Seriously. She can spin words into pictures and emotions that leave me swoony.
When I heard Natalia Jaster was writing a book about Fae I immediately started singing. Singing, “these are a few of my favorite things.” I promise.
This is a wonderful enemies to lovers story. But be aware, it’s NA and Not YA.
When Lark crosses into forbidden territory she is immediately noticed by the viscous Cerulean. It’s not long before a deal is struck for her freedom. But the more time she spends in the company of the attractive ruler the more things become clearer and so much more confusing.
All the stars and intense anticipation for the next book in this series.
/5
Kiss the Fae by Natalia Jaster was an awesome mix of fantasy and steam/romance. After my last read that was the end of an amazing YA fantasy series, I wanted to continue reading more fantasy books. I chose Kiss the Fae cause I kept seeing it on Instagram as it just released on November 5th and the cover is gorgeous and intriguing. This series offered great world building and more of the adult content then the last series which I’m not mad about. It had a fun enemies to lovers / second chance romance feel to it so you got all the witty banter and sexual tension from those tropes. Lark and Cerulean were so interesting and there’s such a spark between them. I loved the huge focus on the animals in both Middle World and Faerie being an animal lover myself. I’ve already pre-ordered the second book of the Vicious Faeries series, Hunt the Fae that comes out April 30th. Excited the hear about Juniper’s test with Puck in the Forest.
Note: I received this book from the author and I voluntarily give this review, it is my honest opinion.
Natalia Jaster is one of my auto-buy authors. The way she has with words, the way she tells a story is exceptional. I love her worlds and her characters, so when I found out that she was writing about the fae, my favorite supernaturals. Kiss the Fae was epic and I loved every single moment of it. Kiss of the Fae is a single perspective fantasy that highlights difficult social issues, talks about morality, inspects relationships all with an air of whimsy. It’s a slow-burn, enemy-to-lovers story that had me hanging on every word.
Lark is the main character and she’s great, I love her so much. Lark is wild, caring, kind, loud, brave, spunky, loyal, smart, fierce and so much more. She is also stubborn, brash, and reckless. It’s the recklessness that leads her into Faerie to Cerulean. Cerulean is a wicked and mischievous fae ruler who is handsome as he is deadly, who is devious but caring who is a bundle of contradictions, who just may have met his match in Lark.
Both Lark and Cerulean are quick-witted, have strong ideas and beliefs. Their banter is amazing and the teasing is of epic proportions. They have this chemistry that both want to deny but it flows from the page. Things with them are always in flux and you never know how they are going to be towards each other until the moment passes. I loved them together, I loved how they develop, grow, and change together.
The characters are so complete even from the brief meetings we get from some of the characters. Natalia was able to paint a very good picture, the world-building was great with the animals (both humankind and faekind) so prevalent in the story, how the wind became such an important feature in the story. That is the kind of whimsy that Natalia brings to the story. There really is no way I can describe her writing and give it justice, it’s something that you just have to experience for yourself.
Then there is the examination of the differences between the humans and the fae, the past histories between the two peoples, and how they have affected the present. The story really concentrates on the problems between the two, who did what to whom, who was in the wrong, who was justified in their actions. It’s a big debate in the book and propels the story along without overshadowing everything else.
Something that Natalia did surprise me, certain things were kinda obvious and I think they were meant to be. Then there is the mention of Lark’s sisters, Juniper and Cove. The sisters are very close but this is Lark’s book and the little Easter eggs that Natalia left has me guessing certain facts about certain things that involved each of the sisters and what might be mentioned in their perspective books. It’s really obvious and has intrigued me even more than before. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Kiss the Fae was a romantic tale full of whimsy, passion, steam, and perils. The background is filled with vicious fae, lush backgrounds, and a horrid history. With interesting animals, magic, and bargains, I had all the emotions and loved every single second. Lark and Cerulean were great, I loved getting to know them, and their story. I hope that we get more of them in the other books, I can’t wait to read Juniper’s story.
Another hit by Jaster! I loved this one so much! The characters were on fire, the swoon glorious, the writing magnificent, and the story addicting!
