I’m a witch. He’s moody and mysterious. We hate each other, but it’s up to us to save the world from demons.
When I learn about the forbidden prophecy I’m left with more questions than answers. Namely, what’s a witch who hardly knows how to wave her wand to do—besides flirt with Bobby Gold, be infuriated by JJ Thorne, and sneak pie from the dining hall?
When the Coven Constabulary, aka the … hall?
When the Coven Constabulary, aka the magical police, question me about matters graver than stealing pie, the good news is I’m not going to jail. The bad news is my latest assignment: assassin.
Rumors about a campus secret society suggest the demons aren’t acting alone and if they’re not dispelled soon, they’ll multiply, threatening supernaturals beyond campus. On the night of the Sweetheart Dance, there’s a student attack, a chocolate fountain explosion, and Marauders ruin my hopes for something special with my date.
My problems outweigh the beast from the east discovered on school grounds when I learn not everyone is who they seem—even the hottest and moodiest ones—and members of the magical community hide dark secrets from the past. It’s up to me to reverse a legendary curse, but I haven’t quite perfected my spellwork. #WitchFail
Book 2 of 3 in the RIP Magic Academy Paranormal and Supernatural Prison series. It’s romantic fantasy perfect for fans of K.M Shea and Wendi Wilson. Mayhem rules the school and an unlikely witch is out to uncover a sinister plot that threatens to divide the world forever.

This is a roller coaster of an adventure! I love the foreshadowing and the chosen plot twist.
JJ playing sports was a fun surprise, kind of illustrating how his condition has affected his development. I will leave this thought there.
This story is a unique twist on magical schools (though I just see Dumbledore in Professor Woods). There is a fun mix of magical characters, a sweet love story, and most importantly there is an exciting rebellion brewing in the battle between love and tyrannical segregation.
I can’t wait to learn more about Grandma. Why is she silent?!
I received this book as an ARC for my honest opinion.
I enjoy E. Hall’s writing and storyline and I am looking forward to the next book to tie it all together. This book had less action than the first, but the characters were engaging me to turn the pages. I think Maija is a little naive with romance , how mean people can be and what they have in their power to do. I would’ve liked her to be more intuitive with things people said and did, since there were hints along the way. All in all, patiently waiting for action with seeing the power radiate from her fingers and romance flourish between JJ and Maija, in the next book.
I love how this story is getting to be soo good! Maija & JJ are totally meant for each other. I don’t want to post any spoilers. All I will say is that you’re in for a crazy roller coaster ride. You won’t be able to stop reading until the end. I can’t wait to find out what happens next!
Crimes and Curses is the second book in the RIP Magic Academy Paranormal and Supernatural Paranormal Prison series that follows new witch Maija Wessels as she starts to get a handle on being a witch and learns more about the supernatural world, its traditions, politics, and it’s problems.
Speaking of problems the second book picks up exactly where the first ended and Maija is in the thick of it and truth be told she’s handling it kinda clumsily. Maija says she will do things but don’t and she’s not really putting in the effort to figuring out what going on and what she can do to help. I know she’s new but she is supposedly concerned so you would think she would at least try.
As for the romance department, things are weird. There are two guys and neither looks that promising. Bobby Gold is most definitely shady and what is up with the gold aura. He seems to be the guy who cossies up to a girl because they’re pretty but doesn’t really want to get to know the girl, just know something is off there.
Then there is JJ Thorne whose identity is finally revealed and it explains some of his old hot and cold behavior but not all of it. I get he’s frustrated about well everything but he needs to be more open with Maija and Maija needs to understand feelings better.
At least there is a great group of friends. The girls have a strong connection and act like how you would imagine close girls at a boarding school would. They pick out each other’s closes, do makeup, talk about relationships, and help each other. Then there is a group as a whole with the guys included, they hang out, discuss what’s happening in the supernatural world, help each other, and are there for each other in general, trying to make the best out of Riptivik.
I had a couple of problems with this book, one of them being the characters. A character knew certain information earlier in the book but then further in it was like the character didn’t know later on, so there were a lot of things repeated. Then characters doing things that didn’t line up to who they were, and they seemed to be waffling. The other problem I had was the plot. It was pretty much the same as the first book with the same problems, scarce new information, and nothing really resolved, not even a plan was made.
On a good note, I finally got the plot untwisted and figured out there are two warring factions that Chancellor West and the rest of the academy has to deal with, the humans trying to wipe out all supernaturals and there is also a supernatural faction who want only the “purest” that means no mixed bloodlines and every group sticks to themselves. We all know when people start talking like that nothing good can come from it.
I will say that despite the problems I have with Crimes and Curses I am interested in how the story ends because while things weren’t perfect there were good plot ideas and the characters are decent enough. Plus I have an idea how the series is gonna be resolved and I wanna know if I’m right. So I will be reading the final book, Mayhem and Magic.
