A Lord and a Lady promised from birth, an avaricious uncle with plans of his own, an impossible choice which leads to disaster, an unplanned compromise, a love fulfilled despite all opposition. ***** FREE ON KINDLE UNLIMITED ***** Lord Marcus Northam was betrothed to Lady Kathryn Harrington when he was four, and she just born. Always in each other’s company, they grew up, certain of the … up, certain of the happiness of their fate together – until he was sent off to school, and a series of misfortunes led to a pivotal moment. On the day that should have been the happiest of his life, Marcus is forced to make an impossible choice – and the consequences of that choice will shatter both of their lives.
Lady Kathryn Harrington has always loved Lord Marcus, and held no doubt that he would marry her, even in the lonely years after her parents’ deaths, whilst he was away at school. Her faith in him remains intact, until, on what should have been the happiest day of their lives, he disappears, abandoning her.
Two years later, when Marcus returns to England, everything has changed – he is now the Duke of Weatherly, and Kate has sworn never to forgive him for what he did. But despite everything, they are drawn to each other, unable to deny the love which has always been between them.
Can Marcus tell Kate the truth of his disappearance, even though it may betray her in another, most likely unforgivable, way? Will Kate forgive Marcus? Or will the chain of past betrayals destroy their hope of a life together?

Sweet And Sad
The narration about Kate and Marcus’ childhood was sweet in the beginning. Then the story seemed rushed from the middle to the end. The way Marcus and Kate processed their emotions was awkward. Compared to all the tragedies suffered, the ending was more bittersweet than happy.
A regency that takes us from first childhood meeting up through the years. Through pains and joys and many differing times.
The only reason this isnt a five star is that I wish it was a full length in detail novel rather than a short novella. It was really good though. It was refreshing way to write a romance, going through time, watching the struggle and Joy’s with the charcters close and far apart. I feel it was a great promised at birth story. Definitely makes me want to read more from this author.
I love Arietta Richmond’s books! She always has wonderful plots, as well as characters. This may not have been her best, but it was still much better than many other books I’ve read. This one did have a little more steam than they usually have, though there was no intimate explanation, just steamy kissing
I enjoyed this book from the first page to the last. This is story of two families that have always been close first as friends and then as future in-laws when they arrange a marriage between their young children. Marcus and Kathryn are promised to each other when he is five and she is but a few days old. They grow up together along with Kathryn’s sickly cousin. Unfortunately a series tragic events strikes both families before the two come of age and can get married. One event is orchestrated by Kathryn’s greedy uncle who forces Marcus to leave while he takes over Kathryn’s affairs. Read the book to see if Marcus and Kathryn can overcome all the adversity to finally find their HEA and fulfill their parents’ fondest wish or if there will be one stroke of bad luck too many.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
An absolutely delightful Regency romance! So many emotions play out throughout this book from happiness and joy to anger and grief. The story captured my attention from the very beginning and I couldn’t stop reading until I found out how it ended. Marcus and Kate were betrothed when Kate was just a baby. As they grew up together, they grew very close. They were always there for each other. However, due to a very unkind influence their relationship and love were tested. When they get a second chance, can they overcome all the past hurt and learn to love each other again? A very touching and beautiful story with wonderful, endearing characters. This was my first time reading something by Ms. Richmond, and I absolutely loved it! I will be looking for more of her books to add to my TBR list!
I was gifted a complimentary advanced copy to read and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
Delightful, second chance Regency tale, which grabs your interest from the very beginning and takes you on a roller coaster ride through the lives of two wonderful people. Marcus and Kate are a beautiful couple who have grown very close since childhood. But when an unwanted influence is brought to bear, their relationship is tested beyond their capabilities. Will they ever be able to overcome their past and reach for a future together? This is a wonderful story that was hard to put down. Don’t miss this one!
