Sophie is strong and independent. Clay is rugged and protective. Together they are heart-warming and inspiring. I always love a story where the main characters complement each other perfectly. Sophie and Clay enhance each other and draw you into the their little world. I wept with Sophie. I cheered for Clay. And for the first time in Mrs Spencer’s books, I found a villain I could truly cheer against. I love the gentle way the author approached loss of a child and the growth it creates in each of it’s characters within the story. A very sweet quick read perfect for a relaxing day in a hammock in a secluded area just you and nature. Have the tissues close but also be prepared for sweet smiles and strong family bonds.
A delightful story!
My rating is 4.5 stars
Davalynn Spencer has a definite way with words! Looking through the quotes I marked as I read has me snickering. And then snickering again as I try to pare these quotes down. It is so HARD to not include each and every one! Flavored with Western expressions, they season the story to create a blend with just the perfect tang that doesn’t overwhelm the senses.
I’ve learned that the ability to turn a phrase doesn’t necessarily equate to a talent for writing stories. Fortunately, Ms. Spencer has gifting in both of these areas. An Impossible Price captures the essence of the West when it was still a bit wild. It brings sights and sounds to life, even engaging the sense of smell to fully immerse the reader in this story.
Sophie and Clay captured my heart from the very beginning. The hints of his broken past had me intrigued and wanting to know what had happened (as Sophie did once she discovered his scars!). Sophie was more of an open book yet despite the more stable home-life she had, she carried pains of her own.
Poor Clay didn’t have the author’s gift of having just the right thing to say. He often found himself at a loss or simply saying the wrong thing. Afraid to reveal his past, assuming others would find him as worthless as he found himself, he kept his secrets close to his chest. And this caused some major conflict with Sophie!!
While I greatly enjoyed the entire story, I especially loved the way that the association many made with Clay’s name that caused him grief was turned around by Sophie when she viewed it from God’s word.
An Impossible Price stands alone. As a part of the Front Range Brides series, it does share characters and continues their stories. Hints of Clay’s past mentioned in previous books were cited as well. Despite having read An Unexpected Redemption a couple of years ago, I couldn’t remember the details and now want to go back and refresh my memory. All of this author’s books are excellent – so go ahead and read the whole series!

I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
I highly recommend this book. Davelyn is a great writer.
Wonderful author who writes books giving you an escape into this story! Don’t want to give the plot away! But you don’t want to miss this one!!
A tender, romantic story. Sophie, a midwife, helps women bring their families into the world, while fearing she’ll never have one of her own. Clay, a veterinarian, bears scars on the inside and outside. I cried, laughed, and thoroughly enjoyed this story, complete with friends met in previous books from the series, and some new ones. You’ll feel right at home in this cozy little western town, sharing in the joys and heartaches of its citizens. And you’ll carry them in your heart long after the last page.
Book three of the Front Range Brides series, I suggest reading all three. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed them. Author Davalynn Spencer writes a heartwarming western with strong, well developed characters that you will love.
Spencer’s story takes us through the ups and downs of life, especially when people are wounded. But through the entire story is hope for the future.
If you enjoy small town, western settings with good historical details and a sweet romance then I encourage you to get this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
This book! This book was everything I wanted it to be, and much more! Davalynn Spencer never disappoints when it comes to writing a book everyone can relate to. The book is set in the 19th century and she sheds light on how relevant issues from that time in history are to the people of today. We are all just pilgrims passing through this place, and Ms. Spencer brings that truth to life for us living in the 21st century. I got totally lost in this book. The characters were well developed. We see many of them returning from previous books in the series. It’s always fun to spend extra time with old friends. The love story in this book is sweet, along with many of the friendships. The historical details in this story shows just how much research went into this work. Add to that the fact that Ms. Spencer is a cowgirl herself and you have a completely accurate account.
I have always felt that Davalynn Spencer is underrated when it comes to her writing. If you have never read one of her books please give her a chance. You won’t regret it!
I was gifted a copy of this book by the author but was under no obligation to write a review. All opinions are my own.
Reading a Davalynn Spencer novel is like time-traveling back into America’s past. This author has the distinctive ability to bring the past alive with her well-developed characters and her livid details. Her portrayals of the late 1880s and the personalities living in Olin Springs, Colorado make for a believable and charming tale. This tender love story depicts a midwife, Sophie, and a veterinarian, Clay, as they muddle through a sweet courtship to discover a strong bond of devotion and faith. The author hits on some important topics of living out forgiveness, knowing your identity in Christ, and dealing with an undesirable past all of which lead to emotional and spiritual healing. Also, for those who have read the first two books you have the bonus of revisiting the characters and catching up with their lives.
I received a copy of the book from the author. My review is my honest opinion.
The author has penned a fun heart warming story with wonder characters. This is the story of Sophie, a midwife, and Clay, a veteranarian. You will meet some new friends, as well as some old friends from earlier stories in the series. Clay and Sophie have a history of a previous relationship. Be sure to read this story to see if they are able to rekindle this relationship and reach a HEA. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
