New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Trust no one. Not your best friend, not your wife, not the police—and certainly not yourself. Sidney O’Keefe just wants to spend a peaceful weekend alone with his wife and daughter in the vacation paradise of Lake Placid, New York—now that he’s been paroled after a ten year stretch in a maximum-security prison. But any illusion of a peaceful future … prison.
But any illusion of a peaceful future is destroyed when his eleven-year-old daughter, Chloe, suddenly disappears from the iconic beach scene, leaving Sidney and his wife, Penny, stricken with fear and panic.
When it’s determined that his old crime boss, Mickey Rabuffo, might be behind the abduction, it becomes apparent that the past has not only come back to haunt Sidney, but it’s come back to kill the entire family. With the village police assuming that Sidney, an ex-con with a history of prison violence, is responsible for his daughter’s disappearance, Sidney is left with no choice—he needs to take the law into his own hands—not only to expose the truth about what’s developing into a conspiracy of Biblical proportions, but also to render his own particular brand of rough justice.
Perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn and Paula Hawkins

Outstanding! Twists, turns, and you’d-never-guess-it plot twists galore. This vintage Zandri can’t be missed.
Warning… Reading this book will take you on one hell of a ride! There are twists and turns within the twists and turns that had me thinking, “Wait what now?”… then going back and reading certain passages again to make sure that I caught it right… and I FLIPPING LOVED IT!!!
I hadn’t had this much fun reading a book in quite some time. Mr. Zandri writes so brilliantly, building up his world and characters that I felt like I was watching it unfold on the screen. You never know what’s coming in the next scene, who the bad guys really are and if things are what they seem so you just keep turning the pages. This book is action packed, full of thrills and just a must read!
The Girl Who Wasn’t There (Audible Audio), my thirteenth read from author Vincent Zandri. I’ve been getting books by this author since 2012, since I own both the Kindle & Audible editions of this book I was able to follow along while reading it and since I own a total of 21 books by him I look forward to reading more! This book was filled with twists & turns & things unexpected. No spoilers from me, buy the book, read the book & leave a review for an outstanding author & his book. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
If you love a fast-paced crime thriller, then this book is for you.
This story has so many twists and turns, that you’ll be left guessing right alongside the protagonist, Sidney O’Keefe. Though he’s a criminal, you’ll be rooting for him and for his family, wondering exactly who it is that is behind the sudden tragedy of his daughter’s abduction. Is it his former employer, Mickey Rabuffo, or someone else? Does it matter?
While aspects of story will remind readers of such films as The Fugitive and Taken, I can assure you that this story is wholly unique. Set in Lake Placid, NY, this story is anything but peaceful, for the main characters or for the reader, but it is certainly quite a ride when it comes to story telling.
Author Vincent Zandri’s pose is descriptive and detailed, emerging the reader into a world of crime and family life drama. Plus, the choice of first person present tense helps with the feeling of full emergence brought to you by the mind of Vincent Zandri.
I had the privilege of enjoying this story through a complimentary audio copy of the book. I am glad to bring you this honest review.
Lake Placid: A girl on the beach and then she wasn’t…
Frantic parents, one just out of prison…
The best psychological thriller I’ve read in a long time.
Intense, urgent, with a propelling pace
Quick, action-packed thriller
Sometimes I just want to read a fast reading thriller that keeps my attention but I don’t have to be too invested in. This tale fit that category.
Sidney “Doc” O’Keefe is released ten years into a murder sentence from a maximum-security prison. All he wants is to spend time with his wife and 11 year-old daughter. But there are others that believe that he has information that they want and they’ll do anything to get it, including taking his daughter.
There were quite a few twists in the story but most of them were pretty easy to see coming but, even so, I still enjoyed this book. I’ve read other books by this author I’ve liked too. I can usually count on a fun read or even a creepy one at times from him. This one was a fast action thriller.
I received this book from Oceanview Publishing through Edelweiss in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review.
This is a truly chilling psychological thriller. Unable to put down with a need to keep reading. So many twists and turns making this a rollercoaster ride of emotion with some whiplash. The book holding you tightly until the very end. Bravo Mr. Vincent another stellar book.
