RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT from Netgalley FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin’ With M. Brennan.
Terrific combination of romance and heart-pounding suspense. Vikki is a JAG paralegal sent to the local army base to question two people. First, she needs to talk to the husband of the latest ReVitaYou victim and find out what he knows about his wife’s use of the supplement. Then she has to connect with MP Flynn Cruz-Street and find out if he knows where his half-brother, Landon Street is. Landon is the scientist who created ReVitaYou, and the authorities need to know what the ingredients are.
The action starts immediately as Vikki arrives to see a grief-crazed Captain Joseph attack Flynn because of his relationship to Landon. The captain escapes, leaving both Vikki and Flynn in danger of a future attack. Vikki, whose investigative techniques can be a trifle intense, rubs Flynn the wrong way by implying he knows where Landon is. Their initial interactions are a bit antagonistic, and it doesn’t help that they are ordered off base (together) for their safety. I liked how they decided that working together was the way to go and discovered that their methods meshed well.
I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Vikki and Flynn. Despite their rough start, they do work well together. That work is complicated by the intense attraction that they feel for each other. They need to maintain their professionalism, but their chemistry is hard to resist. Each of them also have prior relationships that make it difficult to trust the feelings that grow between them. It was occasionally frustrating to see the push and pull as the growing strength of those feelings cause one or the other to retreat when things get too intense. I ached for them both at the end when insecurities pulled them apart. I liked the conversation Flynn had with his mom that opened his eyes to how he needs to live his life. Vikki had a similar conversation with her sister Sadie. I loved seeing Flynn grab onto hope and go after Vikki. I loved the ending and the depth of their love.
The suspense and action in the story were intense. From the opening shots, as Captain Joseph tried to kill Flynn to the surprise twist at the end, I could not put the book down. There were two main missions in this book. The first was to catch Captain Joseph, and the second was to find and capture Landon Street. Captain Joseph was not only grief-crazed; he was also well-trained. It seemed as though Flynn and Vikki would escape one attack only to be confronted with another one a short time later, with one genuinely terrifying one that could have ended very badly. The final confrontation with him was a nail-biter but ended the threat.
At the same time, Flynn and Vikki did everything they could to try to find Landon. Though the man has always had problems, Flynn is confident that he never intended to kill anyone. He’s also under no illusion that Landon is innocent of other crimes. An unexpected event brought Landon out of hiding, and I was glued to the pages until it was all over. Though this is one more piece to the puzzle, it isn’t over yet. Trouble from Sadie’s past reappears as the next and final book of the series is set up.
In Hot Pursuit is the fifth title in the Colton 911: Grand Rapids multi-author series, and it packs a potent emotional and adrenaline punch that’s for sure.
Vikki is a JAG paralegal and her current assignment has her investigating the death of an officer’s wife through the RevitaYou pills. She needs to talk to the victim’s husband and also try to get information on the pill’s inventor’s location, who just happens to be the half-brother of Flynn, an MP at this base. Should be easy enough, Vikki is well trained at investigating through her work with the family’s investigative business and through her JAG career. She knows the right questions to ask… even if in the asking she often finds herself in a combative stance with that person. It’s her personality to need to dig until all the facts come out, and she’s not always gentle about convincing someone that they want to give her all the information she needs. She’s not a bully, but she is argumentative and is like a bull-dog with a beloved bone that she will not let go… for anyone, family, and loved ones included. She’s also recovering from a personal, romantic situation that has her rethinking her past and affecting how she trusts in the future.
Flynn has tried his best to get Landon, his half-brother, to turn himself in before he gets himself killed. But, as always, Landon makes his own choices, even when they are the wrong ones. Yet, Vikki is convinced that Flynn knows exactly where Landon is and she wants answers. If Flynn knew that then Landon would be in police custody.
They are tossed together as Captain Joseph, the victim’s husband, desperate, violent, and filled with anger and grief goes after Flynn to turn over Landon to Joseph. Not going to happen on several levels, but Joseph has lost his mind now and sees only revenge and that the path to finding Landon leads through Flynn and now Vikki as well. They will soon be on the run as they try to find answers, escape a madman, and bring in an inventor who is also mentally not capable of seeing right from wrong. All this in the midst of a blizzard.
In Hot Pursuit is intense, and that is an understatement. This is a story that kept me on edge throughout waiting for the other shoe to fall… and eventually, it does, a whole shoe store’s worth. The attraction between Vikki and Flynn is hot and heavy and full of emotional tensions that have them either passionately intimate or quickly backtracking from the emotions they just showed. There will be mistakes made in this relationship, lots of them on both sides. The question becomes will the love they both think they’re falling into be enough to give them a chance… should they survive that is.
We get updated on the Colton investigation on several fronts, catch up with family members and their lives – and experience one heck of a lead-in for the next and final story in this series. It was an intense, enjoyable, exasperating experience and I loved every minute of it.
I own a Kindle edition of In Hot Pursuit.
A great read that has danger, intrigue and romance leaving you anxious for the next book in the series.
I have read a couple from the 911 series but this is the first time in reading this author which is a surprise to me. Having read Harlequin for years I still try to read as many as I can in the Intrigue line and what used to be the paranormal line. Anyways this one caught my eye because of the characters and their occupations. when Flynn joins with Vikki I was very curious to see how this was gonna go anyways being that they were after his half brother. This is also a formula for a relationship that builds between them because they fit and also work well together. They do have to be careful because there is plenty of danger and we do want to see them get out alive when it is over. This is a fast pace so stay on your toes. Thanks to that shady captain we are so glad there was a protector for Vikki. This one is very full though and has alot to it so do hang on.
Lots of twists and turns in this mad dash against time! With book five in the Colton 911: Grand Rapids series Geri Krotow takes the reigns and takes her reader on a thrill ride as we continue to hunt down the evil forces endangering lives with the RevitaYou scandal. A nice addition to the series brings closure to some aspects of the story and ends with a big twist to hook us on the next book in the series!
Flynn Cruz-Street nabs our attention quickly when he becomes a target in an unexpected attack that leads him to partner with Vicki to get answers and hunt for the bad guys.
Vicki Colton is self-assured and competent in her job as a JAG paralegal/investigator. She’s quick to jump into the fray of getting some of the missing pieces in this mystery that seems to be holding her family hostage.
I recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone who likes a high action mystery mixed with a satisfying happily ever after. I’m looking forward to more in the series.
Hot Pursuit is action-packed and full of suspense, this book contains many different emotions ranging from family loyalty, honor and intergity, justice and betrayal. This is the fifth book in this series, and although if can be read as alone it is much easier to follow along with if you have read the previous books. There is a lot of chemistry between Vikki and Flynn, yet they still struggle with finding a way to each other. I would recommend this book to others.
I received a ARC from NetGalley and Harlequin Romantic Suspense, I was under no obligation to leave a favorable review all opinions expressed here are my own.
Vikki Colton is a paralegal for the Army’s Judge Advocate General unit, JAG. The wife of Captain Emerson Joseph, Teri Joseph has died after taking RevitaYou, a supplement advertised as a fountain of youth miracle supplement. Not only has Teri Jospeh died after taking RevitaYou but many others have become ill after taking the supplement. Vikki is assigned to interview Teri’s husband and also interview Sergeant Flynn Cruz-Street to see if he knows the whereabouts of his step-brother Landon Street, the scientist who developed the formula for RevitaYou. The authorities are very anxious to apprehend Landon Street so they can get him to tell exactly what all is in RevitaYou. Vikki walked into the barracks to find Captain Joseph shooting at Sgt. Cruz-Street. When Vikki tried to calm down Captain Joseph he ran off. Vikki and Flynn are ordered off the base for their own safety. That’s how Vikki met Flynn and started working with him to track down Captain Joseph and Landon. Little did she know at the time that this meeting was just the beginning of danger and electric attraction to Flynn.
Sergeant Flynn Cruz-Street is a MP(Military Police) on the Fort Rapids Army base in Michigan. He is very anxious to find his step-brother, Landon Street so he can talk Landon into turning himself into the authorities. So far he is not having any luck locating him. He is having a hard time, at first, convincing the JAG paralegal the Army sent to interview him that he really doesn’t know where Landon is. As Flynn and Vikki get to know each other they manage to trust each other and rely on each other. After Captain Joseph attacked him in his barracks room and confronted Vikki Flynn was assigned to stick with the JAG officer and protect her. They both found it necessary to have each other’s back as Captain Joseph, who has become unhinged with grief and anger following his wife’s death to RevitaYou, keeps tracking them down shooting and planting bombs to try to get Flynn to tell him where Landon Street is. Flynn doesn’t think that it is the mutual danger they are in that has him falling for Vikki Colton. Yet they must both remain professional and keep their cool until Captain Joseph and Landon are found and apprehended.
Colton 911: In Hot Pursuit by Geri Krotow is the fifth book in the Harlequin series Colton 911: Grand Rapids. There’s plenty of action in this story. Vikki and Flynn find themselves attacked several times by the grieving husband of a RevitaYou victim. The suspense throughout the story is palpable. Reading about the strong, emotional reactions Vikki and Flynn have to their danger is very enjoyable. I liked how these two fought their attraction to each other but finally admitted they couldn’t win that fight. Meanwhile the overall arc of the mystery of the RevitaYou case is progressing and I look forward to the conclusion of the case in the next book.
I really enjoyed this Colton romantic suspense! Having read all of the other Colton books, this one picks up right where the last one left off and this time Vikki Colton is thrown into the mystery of RevitaYou. As a JAG paralegal, it’s her job to interview the husband of a Revitayou victim on the base. What she finds when she arrives not only shocks the heck out of her but tells her that she’s in serious danger on this case.
Sergeant Flynn Cruz-Street is looking for his estranged half brother. He’s the creator of RevitaYou, and they need him to find out what the dangerous ingredients are in this ‘supplement’ that is killing people. The last person Flynn wants to team up with his Vikki Colton, but he quickly realizes he doesn’t have a lot of choice if he wants to find his brother and save lives.
When the action hits, it never quits until the very end! In Hot Pursuit was a nice wrap-up to this part of the RevitaYou mystery. It was starting to get repetitive, but finally, we have answers. Well, some answers. There are more and until they find those, the Coltons aren’t safe. The twist at the end tells you there is another Colton 911 coming down the pipeline and I look forward to reading it!
