Tiffany became famous from the movie The Glass Slippers. She is hosting an auction and ball to help benefit local theater who is producing The Glass Slippers. While at Myth Manor, Tiffany’s biographer, Janice DuBois is found dead in the greenhouse wearing the famous glass slippers that are rumored to be cursed. Cinder ends up attending the ball with Finn, Tiffany’s handsome son in hopes of finding the biographer’s killer. IF the Cursed Shoe Fits is A Once Upon a Witch Mystery. It is a cute, lighthearted story that is fun to read. There are some interesting characters in the story. I enjoyed meeting Cinder and her family. They run Enchanted Candle Soap Company in their two-hundred-year-old home that is constantly in need of repairs. Cinder has plans for expansion of the business, but she needs to find the money first. Their godmother, Matilda and her husband, Odin are quite a pair. I liked the magical element in the story especially Cinder’s unique gift. The mystery was entertaining as I followed Cinder in her quest for answers. I like how Cinder’s gift plays into the whodunit. If the Cursed Shoe Fits is a witty, witchy tale.
I really enjoyed this book. This is a great start to a series, I’m looking forward to reading the rest.
If the Cursed Shoe Fits is a wonderful fairy tale retelling. It is engaging and fun. I love the modern twists with the magical fairy tale elements. I love the characters. This book is well written and detailed. The mystery is interesting and has many twists. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
I have been provided with a copy of If the Cursed Shoe Fits by Sweet Promise Press for an impartial review. This is the first book in the brand-new Once Upon a Witch series and this was just a fantastic way to start off a new series. Ahhhh this was just such a wonderful read. I was just drawn in and I was so sad to turn the last page. I just couldn’t get enough of this story or it’s characters. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this series.
What a fun start to a new series by Nyx Halliwell! With a twist to the Cinderella fairy tale, If the Cursed Shoe Fits was a fun cozy mystery where magick helps save the day.
I have become quite the fan of these paranormal cozy mysteries and this one delivers on all fronts. There is an interesting mystery to solve that brings all sorts of colorful characters into the mix, there’s some interesting magick – I really loved Cinder’s ability to “read” shoes, and there’s a light touch of romance that really helps tie things together.
I loved the family dynamic of both the Sherwoods and the Starlings. Cinder is the oldest sister and has stepped into the role of taking care of her sisters and their family business since losing her parents. I just love her Aunt Matilda and Uncle Odin and can’t wait to learn more about the Sherwood family history, especially now that they have discovered the hidden room in the house. The Starling family was really just Finn and his mother, but I’m a sucker for a son who is so supportive of his mother, and Finn was just that.
The mystery itself had a few twists and turns. Cinder’s cousin Robin is the lead inspector, so it’s easy to see how Cinder gets pulled into trying to find information and ultimately finding herself right in the middle of things. There’s a bit of magick that plays into the mystery, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out between Cinder and Finn going forward. The romance aspect between them is something Cinder tries to ignore and deny, so it was fun watching Finn slowly chip away at her resolve. He definitely played the part of Prince Charming and I can’t wait to see how these two play into future books in the series.
This was a great start to a new series and I can’t wait to see what the next book will bring. This one is definitely worth checking out!
I read this book on Kindle Unlimited.
If the Cursed Shoe Fits by Nyx Halliwell is the first in a new magic cozy mystery and was a delight from beginning to end.
Ms. Halliwell has written a lovely and engaging story that was inspired by the fairy tale, Cinderella, but with plenty of twists to keep it fresh. Cinder is the oldest of four sisters and feels the burden of keeping the family business, home and even their vehicle together. The story moved quickly with intriguing characters, a murder mystery to solve, very few suspects and a handsome “prince” who seems to be smitten with Cinder. I’m excited to read the rest of this series.
The author provided me with a copy of this book to review. This did not influence my thoughts and opinions in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.
What a delight! If a Cursed Shoe Fits is a cozy mystery inspired by the happy fairy tale of Cinderella. Cinder and her sisters are working to make a success of slightly enchanted candles and personal care products when she is called to an amazing mansion to meet the towns newest and best known resident. As she tours the lovely home, she discovers the body of a murder victim who happens to be wearing glass slippers. The shoes might seem a bit farfetched until you learn that they were props from a classic movie and homeowner is a star who has retired to Cinder’s home town. Too bad the police take the shoes into evidence because Cinder’s rather unusual gift is her ability to read the emotional history of a pair of shoes when she puts them on.
I enjoyed the fairly tale touches but the story addresses the problems and triumphs the women face realistically and the murder has nothing to do with magic. I can’t wait to share the adventures that await the other sisters in future Once Upon a Witch tales. I loved seeing their family dynamics; Nix Halliwell always creates families that I adore! The modern day prince charming was charming indeed. A fun story and an intriguing mystery.
