This is for charity. This is for fun. You are a professional. You can do it.Those are the words that Calloway Alvarez chants to herself as she watches all the large men gather into the small room where she’ll be doing the interviews for her employer—Hero Magazine.Honestly, she’s convinced herself that she can’t accomplish the task at hand. That is until she hears his voice, and her head turns to … voice, and her head turns to see him standing there.
Louis Spurlock. Greek god. SWAT officer. Keeper of her secrets. Ultimate fantasy. Man who will break her heart.
***
Louis Spurlock has been playing nice.
He’s been biding his time, giving Calloway the space she thinks she needs.
But then he sees her taking photos of his friends in all states of undress, talking to them all as if they’re best friends, and that little thread of control he’d been managing to hold onto unravels.
Let’s change it up, she says. And the moment the words are out of her mouth, he’s stripping to his skivvies, and throwing out a challenge while he’s at it.
Calloway won’t know what hit her when he’s through playing.
But he does know one thing for sure. When it ends, she’ll be his.

Another hit from Lani Lynn Vale! I swear, just when I think I can’t get enough of her books, she gives me another one I fall in love with! The combination and level of suspense and romance she provides in each storyline are unparalleled. Louis and Calloway dated in high school, but ended when Louis made an executive decision to let her go as he was entering the military. Years later, after Louis has realized the error in his decision, he bides his time to win Calloway back, but she’s not having it. Desperately still in love with Louis, she stands her ground after he made the decision to end things so many years ago. But when strange things start to happen to Calloway, Louis takes it as his chance to not only protect her, but also get his second chance with her. I loved these two and their epic love story involving second chances. Added to the storyline was the mystery of who is behind terrorizing Calloway, and I definitely didn’t see it coming! Per usual, I loved this book and the characters and can’t wait for the next installment!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I’ve read several LLV books over the last few years, and I’ve come to discover that she is one of the few authors (that I’ve read) that has the ability to bring her characters to life in such a great way. I think she does a great job with her couples that have to start from scratch, but I love when she gives us characters who already have a history and that’s exactly what we get with Calloway and Louis. And boy does Louis have some serious groveling to do. One of the things I enjoyed most about this was it was more romance-driven, not a lot of the action-packed suspense of some of her other books. And I have to admit, Louis pulled out plenty, if not all, the stops to get his woman back!
Sweet second chance…
Ahh, young love. Louis and Calloway’s second chance was filled with all the things this author does so well. Heat, heart and drama filled every nook and cranny of their reunion. A youthful decision meant Louis had a lot of ground to make up as Calloway didn’t want to hear, understand or get on board with any of his excuses. Of course, saying and doing were two different things and their bond was impossible to break completely. Hot scenes and soulful memories meant this second chance sizzled and burned….
This story was great – fun to read, full of steam and family, with emotions on high throughout. Calloway and Louis were a wonderful blend of best friends and passionate lovers, with their shared history evident in all the things that didn’t have to be said.
A quieter read than I expected, with drama kept to a low pitch even as the love roller coaster dipped and swerved its wicked way… So good!
*Reviewed for Nerdy Dirty & Flirty
Louis and Calloway were high school sweethearts until he made the dumb decision to break up with her which he knew was a major mistake the moment it happened but in the time since he is constantly trying to win her back with no such luck. I loved how Calloway didn’t let him get off easy and I loved how devoted he was to prove her wrong
I am such a sucker for second chance romances and Louis and Calloway were true perfection!
May Contain Wine is a second chance romance and part of the SWAT world. Louis and Calloway dated in high school, but Louis breaks up with Calloway before he deploys for the military. His only excuse being their distance and she still has a year left in school. It isn’t long after he dumps her that he regrets it, but Calloway doesn’t look back and doesn’t give him a second chance for years and years.
It is only through a happenstance that Louis is able to jump on the chance when Calloway opens the door that he is able to plow back into her life. One that he’s been waiting for since he made that mistake of letting her go years before.
May Contain Wine contains lots of moments with the SWAT members outside of work, so you really get to know the gang and whom they belong to or may have crushes on or pretend they don’t have crushes on. It’s a good book to read if you wanted to jump into the series and haven’t read any before and wanted to get to know the characters.
Louis and Calloway are completely adorable. He is a total sofie where she’s concerned and I loved that he was all in all the time knowing he’s been waiting in the wings and frankly now he’s so done waiting. I really love everything about this story.
Loved Calloway & Luis! Second chance goodness, and Luis is super swoony! I highly enjoyed their banter & all the family shenanigans. There’s a bit of a mystery that’s super sad, tho, too. And the ending was rather interesting… : )
I am in love with this series!! SWAT 2.0 might be IMO than the originals. Louis and Calloway are both children of the original SWAT members and were high school sweethearts until Louis broke her heart when he left for the military. Now he is fighting tooth and nail to get back in her good graces and not only when she needs him. Will they find a way back to each other especially since they have never stopped loving each other? As with all of this author’s books I am left wanting more!! I can’t wait to see which one of the other SWAT members falls next!!
3.5 stars – left me wanting more…
I’ve enjoyed all the stories in this series, including this one, but I think it was fairly anticlimactic after book 4.
Louis hurt Calloway in high school and she’s never forgiven him. No matter what he does – he can’t win her over. Even when he’s a main reason she gets through each day.
I never really got into their storyline and the mystery wasn’t enough to pull it together for me.
I think if I’d read it in a different order – I might have gotten more into the story.
These are easy reads and enjoyable storylines. Just left me a little wanting this time around.
I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy.
The second generation of SWAT is shaping up to be just as crazy and as wonderful as the original series, and it’s because of the intriguing characters Lani Lynn Vale crafts, the crazy antics that abound in the story lines, and the family feel of these essential workers.
Louis is an interesting hero; he knows he messed up all those years ago when he broke up with Calloway, but he did what he had to do for himself and for her. And, even though he regrets it, he gives her the space she thinks she needs in order for them to move forward together. And while Calloway tries her best to stay mad and keep her distance from Louis, he’s done allowing her to shut him out, and ultimately, he finds his in and doesn’t let go of her, especially when things get dicey when she finally does reunite with him.
Calloway is an easy heroine to love because, despite some setbacks and a few obstacles, she keeps moving forward, focusing on what she wants to achieve and doing her best to live life fully. The fact that she has a blog and its focus is on the men and women who serve says a lot about the type of person she is. She’s a relatable main character who readers can see themselves in due to her insecurities, the fact that she second-guesses herself, and how she views her limitations given her anemia.
Second chance romances is a trope that I can’t get enough of and the way Vale writes these kind of stories provides the necessary background information about the hero and heroine’s past that proves why their future should only be way enjoyed together.
4 Poison Apples
This author is new to me and I am so pleased to have found her work. This book was really good. A second chance romance with so much feeling. I was hooked from the first chapter and I know I must read the other books in the series.
I have to say, the more of this series I read, the more I really like the characters and their interactions. The fact that most of these characters grew up together and know each other inside and out adds depth and substance to the stories.
Louis and Calloway definitely have obstacles to overcome, but every second chance romance does. I like how the story transitions between their personal history, their common friendships, work and family ties. Everyone else sees what they’re both too stubborn to acknowledge, but like her other stories, there’s suspense, conflict and drama not to mention LLV knows how to bring the heat! This is definitely a must read series for me.
Calloway & Lewis’s Story was Phenomenal! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
Calloway & Lewis get their second chance at forever in May contain Wine! Calloway makes Lewis work for it… Hard! When Calloway becomes the target of a stalker Lewis steps in to his protector role she really can’t help
Herself… she lets him in and she falls for him harder. But really, has she ever stopped.
Their story is filled with so much craziness you are going to love it!
5 Stars
Another hit for Lani. This book brought the heat, but also love, romance, some suspense and a lot of family affair. This the first book from the KPD SWAT Generation 2.0 series I read, but now I want to read it all, past and future.
What I love the most in Lani’s stories, at least the ones I already read, is that once the couple are finally together, there is no problem, situation, misunderstanding that will break them. Both are always with heads and hearts all in, maybe one has a little lack of confidence, but the other always overcome and turn all better. Both of them are willing to do everything that is possible to make each other happy and stay that way forever.
And Calloway and Louis are no exception. They were together when teenager, but Louis made a mistake and broke them up. From the day after until years later he tries to gain her forgiveness, attention and love back.
I loved everything about them. He respect and loved her so much, from her anemia to her profession to her family. He was so protective of her that made me swoon! And she was so strong, willing to make everything better, like a light in the darkness.
After the creepy animals situation, they sure deserved all the happiness in the world, and I loved a lot their ending. I’ll have to read to next books so can have little updates from them!
May Contain Wine is a second chance romance at its absolute best. Two people who have loved each other since they were children but all it took was one irrational decision and it ended. As Louis decides he is not going to wait any longer he will push Calloway to accept that he wants a second chance. Their story is emotional, passionate, heartfelt and witty. It is overflowing with drama, suspense and excitement. As these two navigate their way back to the road they always should have travelled, Louis will do anything to ensure he doesn’t lose the girl a second time. A story that will capture your heart and hold you captive to the pages, because seriously who needs sleep. My only complaint is I didn’t want it to end, I wasn’t through with my time with Louis and Calloway, however all good things must come to an end but these two definitely left me with a huge smile on my face and bursting with happiness.
