WOW! Just WOW! What a book
Usually when you start reading a Sci-fi-distopia book you expect everything that happens in the postapocaliptic world to be dark and disturbed.
And yes, that happens in this book too and much more, but you don’t expect to discover romance in this cyborgs, humans and robotic world.
This book is so well written that I was able to completely connect with the characters, even if they were cyborgs and not 100% human and fall in love with them.
The mix between cyborg and human and the unbelievable exciting actions in this book is so incredibly fascinating and gripping that I couldn’t put this book down.
The world in the future was so incredibly fascinating and detailed described that I could really visualize everything in my mind. Amazing!
This is not a normal post apocalyptic story, at least not like other books I read so far. It’s an incredibly fascinating love story and an incredibly exciting and gripping story about our possible future.
The power fights and games between different countries or mega-corporations remind a lot the Cold War era with the endless spy actions and intrigues. This is a dark story about our possible future and the consequences of greed for power.
I don’t read this genre very often, but after this incredibly good book, I’ll definitely read more of this genre.
Oh and the correct genre is of course Cyberpunk Noir, but I like Sci-fi-distopia love story much more
I recommend this book to all of you that love romances and want to try a sci-fi version of it.
This book ends with a cliffhanger and I know from reliable sources that another book will follow soon
Very interesting read. Original concept for a dystopian future. Strong lead character and good build up of relationships between various characters.
Behind Blue Eyes is going to be the next big thing in science fiction!
This book has everything! Action, adventure, romance, self-discovery, and the human urge for freedom even in cyborgs!
We meet Nephilim (I loved the use of biblical names) who is a partial cyborg who begins experiencing doubts about the perfect system they live in. The futuristic world that Mocikat created is incredible. Every facet was well thought out, from the Guardian Angels themselves to the way the normal humans lived.
I adored Nephilim. She was an incredible main character who I rooted for the whole time. In fact, every character was wonderful. The villains were exquisitely crafted, and each side character was an important addition to the story.
As Nephilim struggles with her new found independence and a budding romance, we follow her journey as she attempts to discover who she is and what she wants to be in the future, which is a theme that so many of us can relate to.
I loved every aspect of this book and I’m eagerly awaiting the sequel!
Wow!
I knew from the minute I saw the cover and read the blurb that this book was slap bang in the middle of my wheelhouse! It also helped that I’ve read one of Anna Mocikat’s other books (Shadow City) prior to this and loved it.
Behind Blue Eyes is my favourite book of Anna’s so far.
This is a book that is begging to be a TV show or movie! It’s got such great visuals that you just want to see it come to life. It’s got real Bladerunner meets Ghost In The Shell vibes… I can almost hear the Vangelis soundtrack as I read it!
The book is almost exclusively written from the point of view of the main character Nephilim, and as such the end of the book kind of lines up with your expectations as you read it.
That said… Wowsers! The twists and turns that the story leads you on are fantastic. The clues are there, and a few I worked out for myself before the reveal… but not all of them! The plot is twistier than a contortionist playing Twister!!! For every plot twist I smugly saw coming, there was another that caught me blindsided.
Hence i got this double whammy of pleasure from it! On the one hand feeling clever that I’d worked it out from Anna’s cleverly sprinkled clues, while on the other hand I was delighted to be surprised too!!!
I CANNOT wait for book 2!
And I don’t have long to wait, because it’s out in a little over a month!!! Yay!!! Even the title of book 2, Behind Blue Eyes: Fallen Angels, leaves me salivating at the prospect of what’s to come next.
Independent author, Anna Mocikat has woven a tale that involves cyborgs, corporate run empires, and societies that are said to be perfect. If that were true, then why have an elite unit of cybernetically-enhanced humans to protect their way of life?
Behind Blue Eyes is a noir cyberpunk novel that incorporates elements of George Orwell’s 1984 and casts this utopian society in a dark light. Those familiar with Orwell’s book will not only catch references and parallels, but also wonder how deep the conspiracies and betrayals go.
While the main character is initially described as a cold, unfeeling killing machine, we soon discover that this fallen angel is more than meets the eye. While jarring at first, it is well worth reading on just to find out what happens.
Behind Blue Eyes is a worthwhile read filled with action, character development, and some unexpected romance. Best of all, just like 1984, this story will leave you guessing until the very end.
Whovians, imagine a Cyberman who is self aware and went rogue. That is what this book puts me in mind of. It’s an awesome fast paced story that is full of twists and turns. I love the main character and the character development Nephilim goes through during the entire book. The power system set in place also puts me in mind of what you find out in Allegiant (from the Divergent series). The way this book is written really keeps you wondering which side is right and which is wrong. The shift in POV helps to build the tension and creates a few shocks along the way.
The implants are such a cool idea and remind me of the game Prey. How far will a human go to become un-human? The world building is fantastic and vividly detailed. Very immersive.
My only critique is I would like to know more about the other two conflicting forces against Olympia. However, this could be answered in later books.
And the ending! Don’t get me started! Needless to say, I need more!
