The second book in the Erica Swift series is just as gripping as the first.
It begins with a gruesome crime of rape and leads to a far more serious crime being committed. Paige Arland wakes up in a bed full of blood and injuries which she finds confusing. She’d drunk heavily the night before and her mind was too fuzzy to sort out what happened to her.
Enter Erica Swift to try and solve the crime, she has personal issues to deal with after losing her husband in tragic circumstances.
The case is a complex one as it takes place on a university campus, lots of suspects to choose from, even a professor is arrested for the crime.
Great read, highly recommended.
This book has the IT factor thrillers need. When Paige gets pass out drunk she expects a hangover in the morning NOT to be the center of a crime.
At a University there are plenty of suspects, not just Paige. Detective Erica has been swallowed up by grief but work calls when yet another student is found murdered. Eighteen year old students are legally adults but that doesn’t mean they act it. Emotions run high with these characters when their lives are all literally on the line whether that is as the next victim or a life in prison. Part of series but can be read alone. Reads quickly because you need to know who the bad guy is. You need to know who isn’t talking.
I enjoyed this book as the first in a series. I would rate it a 3.5. I would have liked to know more about the characters, but hopefully that will come in time. I look forward to reading the next one.
Great suspense novel. I couldn’t put it down
DI Erica Swift is back in this suspenseful, nail biting read. This is book two of the series and Just when I thought I figured it out, I was wrong. The characters are well developed, the story is captivating and held my attention from the first page until the last. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
Paige wakes up after a night of drinking to find herself covered in blood, two black eyes and soreness in other parts of her body.
A young man is found brutally murdered on the university campus. He was a freshman, not widely known … so who would want him dead? One of the professors found the victim and called police.
DI Erica Swift is still recovering from her previous case after her encounter with The Eye Thief when she receives the call to investigate. There is no apparent motive … but there are several people that Swift feels are hiding something … but what?
And then another student’s body is found …..
With a tightly woven plot and deftly drawn characters, the twists and turns and red herrings, it’s a real page turner. Riveting from the very first to the unexpected, explosive ending.
Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this most compelling crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
The Silent one by M.K. Farrar. This is book 2 of DI Erica Swift series.
Brilliant read. I was surprised because I thought it was one person all through the book. I was surprised with who it was. Didn’t see that coming. I’m looking forward to the next book. 5*.
Very good read, I really enjoyed it.
In the halls of residence of an East London university campus, 18 year-old Paige Arland wakes to a bed full of blood and no memory of how it got there. Dr. Erica Swift’s life has was turned upside down after her encounter with a killer known as The Eye Thief, but when she gets the call alerting her to a body found on a university campus, she is determined now to allow her grief to affect her work. The killing is brutal – a young man with his whole future ahead of him. It is up to Erica and her team to find the person responsible. Someone is not talking. When another student’s body is found, Erica finds herself in a race against time to stop the killer. — This is a very good mystery. The story is interesting from start to finish, and the characters are believable
The story is based around the murder of a male student on the same night a girl is attacked walking home from the student union bar so drunk she doesn’t fully remember the events of that evening.
An intriguing story told from some interesting perspectives that held my interest throughout. The personalities of the detectives didn’t come through as strongly as they could have, but maybe that was because the main focus was on the students?
*The book does deal with the issue of rape*
The story line and character work were great. The book had a fairly smooth flow to it. This was a good read and kept me entertained from beginning to end.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This author never fails with a thriller of a story. And the best part the story makes you think the entire read about whodunit…
Paige has no idea what happened when she wakes up in her dorm room after a night of drinking with friends all she knows is there is major blood.
Then her friend is killed, along with the first loner guy from campus and no one knows at first who or why. Paige’s memory starts to unfold and this story blasts us into one chilling, creepy scene… LOVED IT!!!!!!!!
