“Terrific pace, surprises galore….Move over Jack Reacher, here comes The Bricklayer.” —James Patterson There is a brand new master on the thriller scene. Noah Boyd makes a truly spectacular entrance with The Bricklayer—the first in an explosive new series featuring former FBI agent Steve Vail that recalls the #1 bestsellers of John Sandford and Lee Child. An ex-FBI agent himself, Boyd adds gritty … ex-FBI agent himself, Boyd adds gritty insider knowledge and color to this stunning novel, and the word on the street is The Bricklayer is fabulous. Kay Scarpetta’s creator, New York Times bestseller Patricia Cornwell, calls it, “Dazzling,” while Lee Child himself raves, “Non-stop action and non-stop authenticity make this a real winner.”

I read this book some years ago and loved it. It was about a former FBI Agent Steve Vail, turned bricklayer who gets involved in solving crimes. Kept looking for more by this author, Noah Boyd. Only found one other called Agent X, also featuring Steve Vail, which I also enjoyed. Then found out this author had passed away. A great loss. I also just found that Noah Boyd was a pen name for Paul Lindsay. He wrote a few other novels prior to The Bricklayer. They were about and FBI agent called Mike Devlin, who has been discredited, but works on cases on his own. Also very good.
The characters needed further development. I never understood The motivations of the main character. Some glimpses into his past, but not much emotion. He seemed dull.
Top shelf
I want to read more from this author with this character.
An FBI procedural that is a real page turner. A Jack Reacher style hero with “authority issues” that from the opening scene you know will get the job done, his way. Lots of clues to sort thru and twists, right up to the end. Just bought the second book!
I love Lee Child’s Reacher and think I’m going to love the Bricklayer too!
Well plotted and fast moving story. Neat character development.
Independent ex-FBI agent solves complex crimes while resisting FBI bureaucratic interference. Good story. Well developed characters.
Best book I’ve read in a long time. I wanted to keep reading late into the night but I also wanted to make it last. Dang good book
I enjoyed it.
Loved the book. Look forward to reading more of Steve Vail, and, hopefully, Kate!
An enjoyable read…
A dark account of what monsters are able to do. Nat a normal book I would read, bit glad I did.
Good book. Good read.
Interesting plot, believable characters, absolutely no cursing, and only hints of sex. Great!
Liked the fact that the main character was a maverick that thought for himself taking his unique path to solving issues.
