The New York Times bestselling author of Chase the Lion reveals seven powerful habits that can help you tackle God-sized goals by turning yesterday’s regrets and tomorrow’s anxieties into fuel for a better today.“This book will change the trajectory of your life.”—John Maxwell, #1 New York Times bestselling author, entrepreneur, and leadership expertToo many people delay, downsize, or shrug off … expert
Too many people delay, downsize, or shrug off their dreams just because they don’t know where to start, but playing it safe doesn’t account for the massive cost of a life not fully lived. Win the Day is the jump-start you need to go after your goals, one day at a time. You’ll discover how to:
1. Flip the Script: If you want to change your life, start by changing your story.
2. Kiss the Wave: The obstacle is not the enemy; the obstacle is the way.
3. Eat the Frog: If you want God to do the super, you’ve got to do the natural.
4. Fly the Kite: How you do anything is how you’ll do everything.
5. Cut the Rope: Playing it safe is risky.
6. Wind the Clock: Time is measured in minutes; life is measured in moments.
7. Seed the Clouds: Sow today what you want to see tomorrow.
As Batterson unpacks each of these daily habits, you’ll see how simple it is to pursue them with focus and dedication—not someday down the road, but now. Transform your perspective of a single day and you’ll discover the potential waiting to be grasped at the beginning of each new sunrise.

I CAN WIN THE DAY!
Mark Batterson is one of my favorite writers because he is a fantastic ENCOURAGER! He is an excellent communicator in using Jesus’ favorite technique of meeting you where you are and taking you closer to where God is. Batterson always does so in a very well thought out and easy to understand plan. This particular book has been timely for me and really helped me understand that the key to Winning the Day is “Can I Do It for A Day?” Just like “The Little Engine That Could,” I can, too, with the Supernatural Power of God!
He divides his book into these 7 Daily Habits to Help You Stress Less & Accomplish More:
1. Flip the Script. If you want to change your life, start by changing your story.
2. Kiss the Wave. The obstacle is not the enemy; the obstacle is the way.
3. Eat the Frog. If you want God to do the super, you’ve got to do the natural.
4. Fly the Kite. How you do anything is how you’ll do everything.
5. Cut the Rope. Playing it safe is risky.
6. Wind the Clock. Time is measured in minutes; life is measured in moments.
7. Seize the Day. Live like it’s the first day and last day of your life.
One of my favorite quotes from the book comes from the very beginning. It is taken from the Flip the Script Section. As I continued reading and finished the book, I found myself going back and rereading this passage. Why? My maiden name has always been important to me as I continue to live in the area where I was born and even though I am 62 and have been married for 33 years, people still know me by my maiden name as well as my married name. I have embraced the heritage of my husband’s family name as well as the heritage on the maternal side of his family. Yet when I read the following passage, I Stand In Awe. Flip the Script!
“Did you know that God has a unique name for you? The name your parents gave you when you were born is a placeholder. Your real name won’t be revealed until the day you die: ‘I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.’ (Revelation 2:17 ESV) If you tell yourself the wrong story, you live a lie. If you want to change your life, start by changing your story. Why does God give us a new name? It’s His way of flipping the script. And it’s not any old name. It’s actually His name. God doesn’t just rename us; He puts His name on us. There are more than four hundred names for God in Scripture. Which one does He put on us? All of them! This is how God flips the script. He changes our name, which changes our identity. We get grafted into God’s story. God writes His-story—history with a hyphen—through us.

I really enjoyed reading Win The Day. I thought Batterson offered fresh ideas about living life deliberately. The book is filled with a variety of memorable examples both historical and contemporary. Batterson clearly communicates his ideas and has 7 phrases to help you remember the habits he describes. I didn’t rush through the material and found it easy to pick up every time that I returned to it. I plan to implement a few of his suggestions and I recommend this book to anyone interested in making each day count! I was given a copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions are my own.
I highly recommend Win the Day by Mark Patterson to assist you in changing your thoughts and actions that might not be the best for you. We often get into odd habits that keep us bogged down and held back. After the year we’ve had in 2020, this book comes at a perfect time to pause, reflect and make changes for the upcoming year.
The wisdom and encouragement in this book are great. The suggestions to change your life’s story by making simple but necessary adjustments are very helpful.
I loved the one-liners at the beginning of each chapter like: “If you want to change your life, start by changing your story” and “If you want God to do the super, you’ve got to do the natural.” Mmmm, these little nuggets are still rolling around in my mind. Loved them!
