Too offensive to finish
From the first page until I stopped reading, Lady Wallflower by Scarlett Scott was so offensive that I just had to abandon it. The author has some writing skills, but she needs both a Dictionary and Thesaurus so she can stop relying so heavily on “f” bombs and other vulgarities.
Lady Jo Danvers has declared war on her humdrum life. Armed with a list of ways to be wicked, she will step out of her role as never-ben-kissed wallflower and experience passion. She just has to find the right gentleman. Elijah Decker, the handsome businessman Jo cannot stop thinking about is definitely no gentleman. He is decidedly wrong for her. Unfortunately, Jo unwittingly gave him her list. When Decker discovers the list mistakenly tucked between the pages of a pamphlet, he is intrigued. Jo realizes her error and storms Decker’s office, demanding he return it. He agrees on the condition that she accept his aid in crossing off each scandalous act. What begins as a lark quickly sizzles into something deeper and unexpected. Decker’s dark side may tear them apart before Jo’s sinful question is complete. – Jo is sweet and naive. Decker has the reputation as a scoundrel with women. He is smart, attentive, honest, and romantic. Jo intrigues him like no one else. Their interactions are entertaining. I loved this story. Jo and Decker brought out the best in each other. This is an excellent read.
I have no desire to read a book that is totally focused on sex. The “hero” thinks of nothing more than how he can con the heroine into a compromising situation, ruin her reputation, and “deflower” her. Not heroic in my mind. I skimmed through the book to see if it improved but his low opinion of women and his total lack of respect for all women carried on. I didn’t finish it, which is unusual for me.
Good Regency reading
Great story! Not your traditional story line. I liked the conflict between the H and h. Believable! Spoiler alert, there is sex after marriage in this book which I like.
Lady Wallflower is a spectacular historical romance by Scarlett Scott. Ms. Scott has delivered a well-written book populated with an outstanding cast of characters. Jo Danvers is shy and quiet. But she wanted to be more. So she started a list of ways to be wicked which accidentally ended up in the hands of Elijah Decker. Decker and jo’s story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle and a pinch of action. I enjoyed this book from the first page to the last and look forward to reading more from Scarlett Scott in the future. Lady Wallflower is book 2 of the Notorious Ladies of London Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
Too much and too explicit, this is where more is less, shades od DHLawrence. You need to leave more to the imagination. Long live Jane Austen.
This is my first book by Scarlett and will not be my last ! I thoroughly enjoyed the way she brought all the characters alive.
Lady Josephine Danvers envied her now married friends. At the meetings for the Lady Suffrage Society some were with child and all talked about their husbands and such. She was the only one there single and she has decided to live life and experience true passion, she hasn’t even been kissed yet… That is when she come up with her list, of eight ways to be wicked ! No one was supposed to see her list. Then she unintentionally mixed it in the pages of a pamphlet that went to the publisher. One Mr. Elijah Decker, handsome as sin, owner of a Club and a rake too. Ever since she meets him thru her friend Callie. Decker and Callie’s husband, The Earl of Sinclair (Sin for short) are friends. Decker made her feel things she never had around any other man. She finds herself thinking about him, now blast it he has her list too. Decker can’t believe Quiet, shy Lady Jo Danvers could every write such a list.
Decker lets Jo know that in order to get the list back she must meet him. This starts a lot of interesting events in place. As they meet and spend time together each learns things about the other that is more than surprising. Everything changes when her brother the Earl of Ravenscroft , Julian catches them !!
This book is so great cause it lets us know what happens to the couple after they must marry.
How they live and what each is feeling and why. The back history of each and how it made them who they are. Most romance novels stop at the wedding. There are a lot of underlying feeling, secrets, that these two will learn.
The Epilogue was to die for, so perfect for this couple. This is a very, steamy story, if you don’t like
detailed love scenes this is not the book for you. All are well done and fit the story line.
I will be reading more of this series soon.
Scintillating. Wicked. Sexy. Passionate. Romantic! Scarlett Scott is always a must read for me.
Lady Jo or as Decker likes to call her Josie or Bijou is wickedly gorgeous and holds her own and more with Decker who is sinfully attractive with a disreputable character but deep down honourable and good hearted.
A wicked list in the wrong hands or as it turns out the right hands leads to an unexpected and wonderous, sizzling joyful love story.
Mr. Elijah Decker is a handsome, wealth businessman, the illegitimate son of the Earl of Graham. Publishing is one of his many interests – that brings Lady Jo Danvers to his office to drop off a pamphlet for the Lady’s Suffrage Society. But Jo mistakenly leaves her list of scandalous wishes. Jo is a quiet young lady who usually sits with wallflowers at society events. Feeling left out with her sister and best friend finding true love, Jo writes a list of her desires. Now that list is in Decker’s possession, giving him an insight into the passionate side of the prim lady. Decker’s heart was broken years before when he was jilted in favor of a title. Now his pleasures are one night only with experienced women – until Jo. Determined to go through her list with her, Jo sneaks out a few nights to Decker’s waiting carriage. Until her brother Julian, Earl of Ravenscroft, puts a stop to it. But Decker is drawn to Jo and cannot stand the thought of her marrying another. He offers marriage and is refused by Julian and by Jo, who does not want to be an obligation. Not accepting defeat, Decker forces his suit and they marry. Jo is very attracted to him for she sees the good he does with hospitals and orphanages in secret, but Decker is very private about sharing any of his past. They both learn that the past should be left and not have the power to control the present and future. Jo’s sweetness and loving nature start the crumbling of the walls Decker built to protect himself. He has definitely won her heart – can she win his love and devotion? The past catches up with Decker in the form of his estranged but beloved mother and former love. An enchanting story of an innocent girl whose love can hold the heart of the wealthy businessman and show him the greatest gift of life – Love!
A reluctant, heartwarming love story!
This is the second book in the Notorious Ladies Of London series. It is the love story of Jo and Decker. Jo is a wallflower who is tired of sitting on the sidelines of life never experiencing passion. So she makes a naughty list of things she wants to accomplish with a gentleman. Decker is a ruthless business man who thinks he doesn’t have a heart and doesn’t believe in love. Decker finds Jo’s list and trouble ensues.
This story was so captivating. Decker is a scoundrel of the first order but you are so drawn to him. His character is complex and has many facets. Jo is sweet and strong, able to hold her own with Decker. It is VERY steamy. It is passionate and romantic.
The characters are written beautifully, they are vibrant and just jump from the page. I loved the storyline. It is my favorite trope, the untitled businessman falls reluctantly for the titled lady. The plot moved at a quick pace, enthralling me at the first page. There is not really an evil mastermind in this story, it is mostly character driven.
I am a big fan of Ms. Scott. This is my favorite book of hers so far. It is so good I am considering going back and reading it again now. Just a FYI, there are characters in this story and the last story in the series, Lady Ruthless that have their HEA in previous books in previous series. The author talks about that at the end of each respective book. If I had known that I would probably read those series first.
I would recommend this book and series to anyone who loves steamy historical romance. A really great read!!!!
An absorbing captivating story. The main characters bond into one in the most sensual, steamy, fascinating and unanticipated ways possible. There are some twists and turns with unraveling truths to keep the reader engrossed.
Another brilliant story in the series
This is another brilliantly written story , in a series that is full of hot and steamy plots. The characters consist of a strong heroin and a troubled hero, who overcome their problems with love. This book will suit all those who love hot, steamy historical romances that are full of twists and turns
The Wicked List
Lady Jo Danvers is a Wallflower, but she wants to be wicked. She starts writing a numbered list, only her list ends up folded inside the Lady’s Suffrage Society pamphlet she left with the printer. Elijah Decker is no gentleman and is shocked when he finds her list. He’ll return the list only if she’ll let him be the one to fulfill it. A lot of hot sex and a beautiful lady who wins the heart of a rake.
When Jo decided to write her list of ways to be wicked and add some spice to her life, she never imagined that her list would fall into the hands of another. Trying to get the list back from Elijah becomes a problem. He insists that she complete her list of “activities” with him to get it back. She wants to experience passion, but is Elijah the man to show her how?
When Elijah finds Jo’s list, he is intrigued. He tells her what he demands in return of her list and after some time she agrees. But the more time that they spend together, Jo starts to see the real Elijah. The man that he hides from the rest of the world. Is he willing to open up his heart at a chance of real love?
I absolutely loved Jo and Elijah together! The chemistry between them was red hot and I just loved the bantering between the two of them. I just couldn’t put this book down!!
Scarlett Scott has done it again!! I didn’t think that there could be a book that could top how much I loved Lady Ruthless but Lady Wallflower has done it. I am seriously in love with Decker and Jo. If I’m being honest, based on the premise of the book and the bits I had read prior to the release I wasn’t sure that this book was going to be a favorite of mine in the series but wow it blew me away! Scarlett has managed to weave a wonderful emotional story about two souls who were destined to be together. Seriously, hands down two of my favorite book characters of all time. You couldn’t help but have your heart melt over Decker and WOW this book was scorching! This has become one of my all time favorite series and we are only on book two…seriously can’t wait for the next installment with Lady Reckless.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This was a most entertaining read. I liked the characters of Lady Jo Danvers and Elijah very much. They had an amusing first encounter, Decker was such a tease! There was much more to Decker than he showed to society. He had a complex background and this affected the way he behaved. Once they began their relationship, Jo saw Decker for who he really was. Decker had a strong friendship with his second in command, Macfie. Their banter was very comical and Macfie always knew what was the best course of action for Decker. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Scarlett Scott is one of my favorite historical romance authors. I’ve been a fan for years. This is the story of Lady Jo Danvers and Mr. Elijah Decker. Decker, illegitimate son of nobility, who is used to their scorn, moves in their circles because of his wealth. Though he strives to project an air of ruthlessness, he is actually kind and generous in many ways. He’s a rake, but he’s a good person beneath his devil-may-care facade. Lady Jo just wants to experience passion and doesn’t think very far beyond that desire. She writes her fantasies down in list form and foolishly loses track of said scandalous document! Decker can’t help himself when an opportunity for wickedness and blackmail presents itself!
The premise of this book is fun and creative. I loved Elijah! He was so wonderful. Jo was very naive and impulsive, but she was kindhearted. Neither of the characters acted irrationally or like a hothead toward one another. They were both very mature, levelheaded, and likeable which was refreshing! The chemistry between the MC’s was sizzling! Loved that Lady Jo was a part of the suffrage movement and that Decker published their pamphlets. I enjoy how Scott weaves historical accuracy with romance.
I received an advanced reader copy and my review is voluntary.
A sweltering attraction of innocence and wickedness!
Lady Josephine “Jo” Danvers is a shy wallflower who is petite in stature but a force of nature when it comes to her beliefs and emotions. Mr. Elijah Decker was born on the wrong side of the blanket and a rake of the highest order. His reputation for women is almost or just as bad as her brother’s was before his marriage. Decker is a handsome, shrewd businessman who runs the Black Souls Club of debauchery, decorates his life with erotic art, and owns the printing shop where Lady Jo delivers the pamphlets for The Lady’s Suffrage Society.
They have always had a contentious relationship. Then Lady Jo accidentally misplaces her list of “Ways to be Wicked” in the latest suffrage pamphlet, a list she created while she may have been a little inebriated and heartbroken over viewing all her friend’s loving relationships. She wants passion. He found and read her wicked list and now he wants to debauch her. He bargains with her that he will give it back if she will fulfill the list with him and only him!
She doesn’t understand why sinfully handsome Decker would want her. She is simply a wallflower raised in the country, is not overly intelligent and does not consider herself an object of desire. She thinks it is just about the wickedness because he would never love her. Decker believes as the sister of an earl he, a bastard, is not good enough for her. He finds that even though she is unlike anyone he has ever been with, he desires only her and is consumed by thoughts of her. He fell in love one time and vows not to go down that path again but he finds that she is unlike anyone he has ever been with and is consumed by thoughts of her. No one will do but her!
Eventually Jo and Decker are forced into a situation and continue on a wicked journey of laughter, jealousy, regret, forgiveness, and love. This is the second book in the Notorious Ladies of London series and is a great follow-up to Lady Ruthless. I know not everyone is a fan of wallflowers, but it is rare to find a woman who can’t relate to one at some point in their life. We all feel the pressures of society about our looks, intelligence, and social skills etc and are we good enough? So, I absolutely love it when I can read a book where a woman who thinks she’s just kind of mediocre can find her happily ever after. It is also very satisfying to have some hot and steamy scenes, she says as she fans herself. I adored escaping reality and reading about this wallflower and her redeemable rake. I received an ARC of this book and chose to post a review.
Lady Josephine Danvers is a wallflower of the first order she’s bored with her safe life. She has never been kissed and she desires much more and makes a scandalous list. A list of all the things she wants to see and do with a handsome gentleman. Mr. Elijah Decker a devilishly handsome rogue and a man she does business with. Decker is the man she cannot stop thinking and he accidently finds her list. She realizes her error and ends up making a pact with the devil and agrees to accept Decker’s aide in crossing off each scandalous act on her list. What fun these two have, I love their witty banter and the sexual tension as they realize there’s something deeper developing between them. With a list of scandalous things to do, a mysterious lady love from his past and if her protective brother, the Earl find out then all bets are off makes for a great a story. An excellent story I voluntarily read and wrote this review.
