In exchange for favors to help his clan, PineRock’s dragon leader Wes Dalton agrees to participate in a charity auction. After all, one evening dining or dancing with one lucky bidder shouldn’t be too hard to endure. Then he notices the true mate he can never have in the audience—Ashley Swift. When she wins him for the night, the battle begins between what his dragon half wants and what his human … human half tries to deny.
Ashley Swift worked her way up the ranks of the American Department of Dragon Affairs and knows the ins and outs of dragon-shifters in her area. And while it’s against the rules and she knows it, Ashley is drawn to PineRock’s clan leader. They’ve danced around each other for years, but Ashley has finally found a way to spend an evening with Wes—a charity auction. Nothing in the rules prevents her from bidding, and she wins. One night is all she needs to get him out of her system, or so she tries to tell herself.
As the pair dance around their undeniable attraction to one another, more than Ashley’s job or Wes’s position is at stake. They stumble upon unrest brewing in Reno, and it’s up to them to protect the clan. Only then can they think of a way to skirt the rules and be together.
NOTE: This is a quick, steamy standalone story about fated mates and sexy dragon-shifters near Lake Tahoe in the USA. You don’t have to read all my other dragon books to enjoy this one!

This is a very enjoyable series.
Great read – wonderful addition to the series!
Both of them have been denying their feelings due to their responsibilities. When she takes a chance at a charity auction and bids on him, neither can continue to deny they belong together.
Wes and Ashley definitely have a great chemistry that you really feel from the beginning. I really enjoyed the story. Unlike most of the other stories, these two have known each other for a long time so their relationship has a different dynamic. It moves faster and has more intensity without a need for a lot of buildup. I thought they were a very evenly matched couple and neither was the type to back down. It was a quick and very enjoyable read for me.
I very much liked the epilogue at the end. It really gave them the happily ever after I wanted for them.
I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.
I have been waiting for this book and I was not disappointed. I loved it even if it seem to end abruptly BUT that is the point of this series so it is fine with me.
Character breakdown;
Wes: I liked him he was less stubborn than the other leaders I’ve met and more willing to go the distance.
Ashley: she was a bad a** woman! I loved how she knew how to work the system and the people around her.
Favorite Quote: With each tap and thrust, alternating to drive her mad, she gripped the sheets harder. She was going to like being a dragon-shifter’s mate.
What I want to know is… About that tease in the epilogue, are we going to see that characters book too? Cause that would be fun! Lol
Overall fun fast paced series, can’t wait for the next one!
In the end, love is all that you have.
I have been eagerly awaiting this story. It all began in the first book, the Dragons Choice and the Dragons Need. I love seeing about the American dragons, a slight difference from the Stonefire world, but just so nice. Another treat, living in NV, I love that this is being in Tahoe.
Wes is the clan leader of Pine Rock. He begrudgingly agrees for the charity auction to help orphan dragon children. His true mate, Ashley, bids on him and wins. They cannot be together because of regulations, however, they find a couple of loopholes. You do not need to read the other two books, but you will get a richer story if you do.
In the end, it is all about love. I love this world and am happy that there are enough stories still to come.
I received an Advance Copy for an honest review.
The Dragon’s Bidder
Wes Dalton has known that the ADDA (American Department of Dragon Affairs) liaison to PineRock , Ashley Swift is his true mate. He cannot act on this knowledge. A relationship between Ashley and Wes are forbidden. The good will between the ADDA and PineRock is working well. So far there have been two matings between dragons and humans. He owes Ashley and the ADDA many favors over the years and tonight is a way to pay back. He has agreed to be one of the dragon males auctioned off for a date for a charity.
Ashley decided to attend the Orphan Charity Auction sponsored by the ADDA. She had always stayed away but tonight was different. Wes was part of the Auction. She has always wanted to get to know him better. She takes the chance by bidding on him. This would be the only way she could see him outside of work. Bidding reaches $5000 and Wes is hers for the night.
They agree to forget Clan and ADDA politics for the night. They go to a dragon-friendly bar called Deuces Wild for some darts and drinks. Ashley loosens up and tells him that if they were a regular man and woman they would have already slept together. Wes and his dragon would love to act on that but he could lose his Clan and she could lose her job. Wes tells Ashley the truth that she is his true mate but the stakes are too high to act on that. He can control his dragon.
Then two men in the bar make comments about dragon men being trash. Both have the distinctive tattoo of an eagle clutching a rifle and an American flag in it’s talons. These are members of the America for Humans Only League. They try to convince Ashley to leave with them but they have a rich and powerful business man with them. This could be trouble for Wes and Ashley.
Can Wes keep Ashley safe from the League? Can Wes resist the true mate attraction? Kissing Ashley will trigger a mating frenzy. Ashley has worked ten long years with the ADDA, she loves her job. Wes has kept PineRock together and is slowly making it a successful, productive clan. Neither wants to lose what they have worked so hard for. Compelling characters, a great read!
This is the third book about the American Tahoe PineRock Clan. I am really loving the American Dragons. These three books are just about PineRock, there are three other clans. They are StoneRiver, SkyTree and StrongFalls. I would love to know more about them!
I have been waiting for Wes and Ashley story since they first started bickering with each other in book one, The Dragon’s choice.
Wes Dalton is Pine-Rock’s dragon leader and Ashley Swift is his ADDA, the government agency in charge of the dragons, liaison. They have worked together for years but only Wes knows that she is his true mate. They both have very strong feelings for each other which makes their conversations very sarcastic yet witty. They are a very fun loving, steamy couple who you can’t help but root for.
This book is shorter then the others but it is filled with a lot of information about how the dragons live and their limitations with humans outside their own clan. I wasn’t expecting this book to start out the way it did but I am so not disappointed, I loved it from the start. I love how Wes and Ashley fought to find a way to be together. Their chemistry just leaped off the page’s.
I also really enjoyed Wes’s conversations with his dragon and the added bonus of getting to know his mother. Once you picked up this book don’t expect to put it down until the very last page.
I can’t wait for this book to come out on audio.
I had been looking forward to reading about Wes and Ashley since we were introduced to them in book one. It was definitely worth the wait!! I also really liked that we learned so much about the dragon ‘s restrictive lives due the control of agency. My only complaint was that I wish it was longer but overall it was a enjoyable and entertaining read. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
Wes and Ashley
What a great story. Besides the story, I learned so much about the dragon’s restrictive lives due to the controlling agency.
Wes has known Ashley is his mate for years and fought the draw. As an employee of the government agency in charge of the dragons, she can’t marry a dragon. She knew she wanted him but not how he felt. When Wes agreed to help a dragon-related charity as one of the dragons who would spend one evening with the highest bidder, guess who wins? Yep, Ashley gets a chance to find out about the man not just the leader.
The rest of the story…is filled with wonderful characters, including Wes’ dragon and mom. We meet some of his clan and get to see how the US dragons deal with the laws and their own enemies. Can two bright, (well, three counting his dragon) people find a way past the rules?
I loved it and the chemistry between these two is steaming. It may be shorter than some of the stories but it lacks none of the intensity and is a truly fulfilling read. I’m gonna be reading it again and anxious for the audio to come out.
