I wanted him from the moment I laid eyes on him and from that point on, the question wasn’t if I’d have him but when…Thirty-five-year-old Matias de la Vega is good at one thing and one thing only. Though he doesn’t officially carry the title of killer when it comes to his role in an underground vigilante group, he’s got no problem getting his hands dirty if it means getting … means getting justice for those who can’t get it on their own.
Such is the case when single dad Sam Wittier is confronted by a stalker bent on murder. While neutralizing the threat is all in a day’s work for Matias, what comes after is anything but. Although Matias isn’t particularly surprised by his attraction to the older Sam, his inability to walk away from the still-grieving widower is a complication.
An unexpected and dangerous complication…
Nothing about the mysterious Matias makes sense to me. The emotionally distant soldier says what he means and takes what he wants. And for whatever reason, what he wants is me. That should have me running for the hills. It should, but it doesn’t…
For fifty-something Sam Wittier, life is as good as it’s been since he lost the man of his dreams more than two decades earlier. After handing the reins of his successful business over to his older son, Sam is happy to settle into the quiet, simple life of being a full-time single dad to his newly adopted little boy.
Unfortunately, life didn’t get the message. After nearly losing everything to a deranged stalker, Sam finds himself face to face with a man who is anything but quiet and simple. There’s no reason he should want the unpredictable, take-no-prisoners Matias in his life or his bed, but just like life, his body isn’t getting the message.
One night with Sam is all I need to get him out of my head for good. One night will be enough to end my obsession with him. It has to be…
While Sam and Matias share a white-hot chemistry that neither has ever known before, that’s about all they have in common. But as one passionate encounter leads to another and the line between obsession and need begins to blur, will Matias and Sam find that maybe they aren’t so different after all? And what will that mean for the ghosts of the past that have haunted each man for so long?
The ghosts that are willing to be buried as well as the ones that aren’t…
***Although not required, it is highly recommend that you read Protecting Elliot: A Protectors Novella” prior to reading Obsessed. The books feature separate couples but overlap when it comes to timeline/plot.

I enjoyed this book. I’m glad that Matias finally found his happy place. It was cool to see that as Sam and Matias get to know each other Matias slowly opens up to him about his past especially with the man he’s hunting Bishop who was the ring leader on the attack on his brother Cruz and the reasoning behind the attack, it was cool seeing Matias allowing himself to be vulnerable with someone, as he’s always had to hold himself back even from his only family, his younger brother Cruz. Man, Bishop is a complete psychopath with the way he’s been toying with Matias, well Matias has been playing right into his game of cat and mouse without even realising it. I just wish the ending wasn’t so abrupt as I would’ve loved more of Matias and Sam. I’m looking forward to reading the Four Series as Vaughn’s brothers’ find their happily ever after. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.
Matias and Sam were well worth the wait from the ending of Cruz and Elliot’s story. This story picked up toward the end of Protecting Elliot and introduced Matias as the brooding and silent man, and Sam as the talkative, reserved widower. Matias does open up to Sam eventually and they do get a beautiful happily ever after. Another perfect addition to this series!

Sloane Kennedy knows how to make you feel the whole gamut of emotions. “When I’m around him, I feel like I can finally take a deep breath.” Sam and Matias had to fight hard, for themselves and for each other, but what a powerful and heartfelt battle it was. My heart hurt for their pain, especially when they hurt each other, but oh the moment when they found their happiness and their place… Well it was like the moment when a rainbow peeks out on a cloudy day, uplifting and beautiful.
*** Combined Audiobook & eBook Review!! ***
I binge-read the Protectors series (or, the books that were out at the time) a few years ago. So when I saw this audiobook available on Audible, I snatched it up with glee. I’m working on a project right now that requires my hands to be busy but my brain is idle. Having audiobooks available has been a lifesaver. This one, in particular, was a pleasant distraction.
However, I’ll admit, the narrator wore on my nerves. His presentation of the story just wasn’t for me. I found myself cringing more than swooning, and eventually wound up DNFing because I couldn’t get into the story because of the narrator. But because I wanted to know what happened, I wound up finishing it in audiobook instead. Thankfully, it was available on KU, so I could do so easily.
The story was your typical Sloane Kennedy. Filled with angst and heartache and lots and lots of instalove. Definitely not for everyone, but I always enjoy her stories for what they are. There could be some more meat there, but if that’s what you’re looking for, then this series probably isn’t for you. If you go into it knowing what to expect, I’m positive you’ll enjoy it! <3
5 Glowing Stars… Awe the feels! The angst, frustration, heartbreak & tears… What a book, I Loved It!! Amazing book & a must read!!
Everyone that knows me, also knows that Sloane Kennedy’s “Protectors” series is one of my all-time favorite series….that along with all the other amazing spin-off’s she has written. I can’t believe this is already the 13th book in the series!!
And I still hope there will be many many more…
I do want to give some advice to those of you planning to read this book (and you should). I am normally a pretty reckless reader…meaning, I don’t care about reading orders and all that, I just do what I want…
..But when it comes to this series, I do recommend to read all the books in order, and in this case, to also read the novella, Protecting Elliot. If you don’t, you might feel like you have jumped into an ongoing story and you could get a bit confused.
Protecting Elliot is about Cruz and Elliot. Cruz is Matias’ brother and Elliot is Sam’s son. Matias and Sam are the main characters of this story.
They meet through a horrific ordeal at the end of novella 9,5 and their story picks right up in this one.
We get a bit of an age gap, which I always think is yummy and there is plenty of hurt/comfort for those graving it… It also wouldn’t be a Sloane Kennedy book without the delicious steamy scenes 😛
As is the case with most of the main characters in this series, both men carry some substantial emotional /psychological baggage. But no worries…they will work it out together in plenty of ways 😉
That said, I am gonna be honest and admit that this one was not my favorite of the series. I think this is mostly because I feel nothing for the “dead spouse” trope. I usually skip these kinds of tropes, but we are talking Sloane Kennedy here and there is no way I was gonna skip this book. So…this one not being my fave..it’s a personal issue and I think most won’t have that problem and are gonna love everything about it.
Besides, even I can’t love them all the same, and I did still enjoy reading it, even though reading, for me in these hard times, is not the same. I find the most comfort in my golden oldies right now and so…
I think it might be time for a “Sloane Kennedy series” re-read ….
Wow. Obsessed is an excellent read. It is a great addition to The Protectors series, with its damaged characters, steamy and intense sexy times, blood and violence, traumatized and vulnerable family members, and a love story that gets you right in the gut.
Not going to lie, some parts weren’t easy to read. Some of the sexy times are quite raw, and while they are passionate and giving, I did cringe a time or two. The bad guys’ psychological manipulation is disturbing and made me wonder how the author could come up with such an ominous character. The danger to the children was the worst for me, though. Especially the youngest, who is a sweet and charismatic character.
The suspense and action are well written, utilizing old friends from previous books. It was good to see them and know they are still doing well.
Matias is a good, strong character, and my heart broke for him as his past was revealed.
Sam is a sweetheart. The confusion and stress he suffers as he gets to know Matias feel so real.
I enjoyed this book. Start to finish. I am confident and satisfied with the HEA and look forward to seeing more of the entire family in future books.
