WHY DOES EVERY BETH WISEMAN BOOK INCLUDE A RED SUITCASE? This is one of the many questions answered by an author who has sold over two million books. Beth has penned more than forty books about the Plain People in Pennsylvania, Colorado, and … Colorado, and Indiana. In this collection of essays, Beth gives readers a glimpse into her personal life and shares experiences she’s had while writing about the Amish.
INCLUDES PHOTOS, AMISH RECIPES, AND A “BONUS” SHORT STORY!

This is a glimpse into the behind the scenes life of an author who knows her subject matter by doing research. I loved the humorous moments and how Amish districts differ. The pictures included bring life to the chapters. This is a quick informative read and as a bonus includes a short story entitled An Amish Adoption. I needed tissues and was quickly drawn into the story. The only downside was it ended. If you enjoy cooking there are recipes included at the end. You receive a complete package when you purchase this. Would make a great gift.
I received a complimentary copy from the author. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
I enjoyed this little book about Wiseman’s experiences & people shs has net, while writing about the Amish. Selfishly, I hope that we can later see a sequel after 10 more years – or 5 (I am getting greedy now ha!)! My favorite chapters were about the Amish themalces in relation to books. I especially appreciate the respect Wiseman obviously has for the Amish, as well as her self-deprecating humor. And for readers who are interested in adoption among the Amish, there is a bonus treat, a short story called “An Amish Adoption!”
I loved this book so much and felt like I was traveling with the author as she visited Amish farms and restaurants. It surprised me about the gray areas that the Amish have with some laws they abide by. For instance, they don’t allow cell phones but can have one for a business. I thought that was strange but it is a way around being able to communicate faster.
When the author talked about her start into the publishing world I appreciated her honesty as she found her way into the genre that was special to her. The addition of Janet as her assistant is a blessing to her as well as everyone on Beth’s street team. She truly has a gift of administration and helps promote, plan and pray for Beth daily.
The pictures that are in the book really give us a glimpse into the Amish world. The author has made wonderful friends on her journey of writing Amish Fiction. It was interesting to know more about the places she write about and the people who found their way into her stories. It was a very interesting conversation between the author and an Amish woman named Lydia. The topic was about the book Plain Perfect. Lydia was not happy with the way Beth had portrayed the people in the community. I knew that communities had their own rules, but I thought they were all pretty much the same. The book is filled with wonderful memories of the author’s journey as she began to write Amish books, I loved the short story at the end and Beth I did notice the red suitcase in the book.
I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.
Beth Wiseman is a Best Selling Author of Amish books.
This book has two parts:
the first is written in first person, with small chapters about different topics, memories and questions readers asked Beth: about her job as a writer or about amish dresses, bathrooms, relationships, buggy rides..
the second is the short novella ‘An amish adoption’, about foster care as parents and fostered children.
Amish books are God centered, as their lives are.
“My biggest surprise is, while writing the books, I’ve unknowingly been ministering to myself”.
Interesting, detailed, funny, easy and fast to read book, I had a pleasant time reading it.
Thank you to let me read this book to: author, publisher, Interview&Review.
Beth Wiseman has been one of must-read authors for several years so I was super excited when I found out she was writing this book. As a long time fan of her work, I knew she thoroughly researched the Amish communities she has written about and in this book, she shares her experiences with her readers. I love that she has a great deal of respect combined with genuine interest when approaching the communities she is writing about.
The author writes with such warmth and humor that time flew by as I read page after page. I appreciated the photos and recipes she shares and I was very appreciative of the bonus short, An Amish Adoption . Writing about the Amish would make a great gift for the readers in your life from the young to the young at heart.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This tell how Beth wrote her book and was very interesting to read.It also included and short story An Amish Adoption which was very good.
I was given this book to give my review which is my own opinion.
There are so many inconsistencies about what people know about the Amish Religion and way of life. Through her many years of writing about them Beth has shown us an insiders view of what is true and what is fiction. Like so many other groups in this country we tend to look at one and assume that all the others are the exact same way. (You know what they say about when you ASSUME something) but Beth has sat down and explained it all in simple terms. Thank you Beth for taking the time to explain it all. This was an ARC book for me.
