I expected this to be about shifters which are generally either created in one of 3 ways: 1) supernaturally – like werewolves, 2) alien – as in they come from another planet or place, 3) genetic experimentation. In this case the breeds came from genetic experiments. However, they are not actually shifters, they don’t shift from human form into their cat form from what I could tell in this book.
They just have traits of both beast and human. Callan Lyons is both man and Lion, he was born of a surrogate in a Lab and raised to be a killer. He escaped with several other cat breeds, though the “Council” thinks all of them but him died in a fire. His surrogate Mother was murdered a year ago after she gathered evidence of his existence and sent it to a friend in the Media.
That friend sent his daughter Merinus to talk Callan into coming forward with the thought that if the world knows about him and his kind, the Council will no longer be a danger to them. Once Callan is in the Limelight there is no way he can be a target anymore. Callan is not convinced though.
The book is good, the romance between Callan and Merinus is non-stop hot and steamy sex like you would not believe. They don’t understand what is happening between them but they can’t get enough of each other. I will continue to read more of the series.
I have read and owned this series for ages and I am rereading them for like the fifth time as it has been nearly 2 years since the last book in this series was published and a new book is due out soon.
This story still grabbed me and I could not put it down. I will be writing reviews as I go.
WOW I sometimes forget what a great start to an extraordinary new series this book is.
If you like paranormal, coupled with one hell of a good story full of action, heartache, love and betrayal with exceptional characters this series will be for you. Throw in quite a few baddies who get their butts kicked, plus one hell of a background story and you get one of my favourite series ever written.
I just loved Callan and Merinus as well as all the others we meet in this book.
2020.
I do begrudge paying twice for the same book though.
First through EC many years ago and now through another retailer for the new cover version, which has not been extended or altered.
love it and she is on my auto buy list
I knew I loved this series, but it’s been years since I read it. I am freaking thrilled this first one was better than I remembered! Hot, sexy, romantic, tragic, and so freaking enthralling. I loved Me rings and Callan. Though even with just Callan, I would be in love. I need to meet one of these guys. Seriously.
It was really good book. I knew what would but it still was little sad in the end
This is much more erotic than I normally read, but that seems to be a theme of late, due to several recommendations from friends.
That being said, I did enjoy the story. The thought of the government making new “breeds” by messing with DNA coding was intriguing. And in addition to the HOT romance between Callan and Merinus, you just get an overwhelming sympathy for the people who’ve had these experiments and testing done to them. I’m curious to read the rest.
