After the circus she works for goes bankrupt, Jillian Powell takes advantage of a dubious family connection.
The little farm in Pennsylvania that belongs to her “cousin” is a safe haven for Jillian, and she’s sure no one will ever uncover the incriminating truth she’s hiding… control officer, McKoy Rodning, is thrown for a loop when an elephant crashes his best friend’s wedding.
He’s even more confused when the exotic Jillian evades all of his questions about permits and regulations. All he knows for sure is that she’s emphatic about reuniting the depressed animal with her elephant sister.
McCoy finds himself uncharacteristically bending the rules to help Jillian, risking both his job and upcoming promotion. When her secret is exposed, he’s faced with following the rules or following his heart.
If you like Lori Wilde, Diane Holiday, Liz Isaacson, and Hanna Hart, you’ll love this sweet and heartwarming romance!

Jillian was a circus performer in Mexico. She worked with elephants and now she is in Pennsylvania trying to stay under the radar because she is here illegally when one of her circus elephants shows up at her front door. She is trying to run a dog kennel/obedience school but now the local “dog catcher” knows she has an elephant and he is determined to do things by the book.
McKoy is referred to as a the local “dog catcher”. He hates that title but he loves his job. When he becomes aware of an elephant that is owned by Jillian, he needs to make sure she has the proper permit and facility to house this type of an exotic pet. He is drawn to her and wants to help her so he helps her build a fence and the more time he spends with her, the more he is drawn to her. He has to keep their relationship professional in order to secure his promotion, but he just can’t get her out of his thoughts. When he discovers the secrets that Jillian has been hiding, he is determined to do all he can to keep her in his life.
I very much enjoyed this story. It is the fourth in the Sweet Haven Farm series and a complete departure from the other stories in the series. The building romance between Jillian and McKoy is sweet and brings to light the insecurities of both of them. When one discovers their soulmate, it is hard to let anything get in the way.
This is a sweet clean romance that kept my interest through the entire book. I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
Wow, a book that begins with elephants and weddings in the first sentence. Who would have seen that coming? And that’s not the first nor only surprise. I loved that although there were many things to keep Jillian and McKoy apart, they finally decided that nothing was that important and found a way to be together. Of course the fact that this book is written by Jessie Gussman makes it top notch. If you haven’t experienced her writing, this is a great book to start with. She has a way with telling a story that is thoroughly enjoyable.
Love with a side of elephant!
This is a good change of pace from most other romance novels with the surprise circus elephant and Jillian’s legal problems which could completely derail any chance of a future with McKoy. I loved the storyline. Jillian and McKoy have great chemistry and fit very nicely as part of the Sweet Haven Farm series. I received an advance copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
The plot drew me in and I read it in one sitting. This is a must-read for anyone who likes a good love story.
Shhh…you not gonna believe it…Jessie takes it to the next level – elephant and wedding – yep, you have to read to find out 😉
“Their relationship was not exactly harmonious. They didn’t belong in the same dance together any more than elephant and wedding belonged in the same sentence. With a lift of her chin and a glint of her own eye, she met the challenge in his gaze, placing her hand in his.”
Jillian and McKoy have a very unusual story. McKoy is an animal control officer and plays everything “by the book”. Jillian is in the country illegally along with an illegal elephant. Their course of true love is anything but smooth. I really loved this book and highly recommend it.
I received a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary, honest review.
I loved this story. This is a touching story that can cause mixed emotions. Jillian is a very work oriented young lady but she has a secret that could take away everything she has worked so hard for. Then McKoy shows up she falls for him but that could be her downfall. A very good story.
I had an ARC copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed this new book by Jessie Gussman. Jessie always tells a great story and this one is no different. The characters are heartwarming and the plot is interesting and different. I enjoyed the difficulties the characters faced as well as the ways they handled themselves, plus the faith aspect.
