For me this wasn’t a romantic or steamy story. There is lovemaking at the very end, within marriage, heat level 2.5 out of 5 – not steamy just the right amount and only mentioned once.
I didn’t feel any romance with this couple, they just didn’t click with me. So the story is what I loved! I usually don’t go for murder mystery, but this was exceptional. I didn’t figure out who the murderer was at all. This is a tragic story, especially for the h’s older sister. Oh, how I ached for her and I will research to see if her story is out.
Everything was answered except what happened to the H’s mother – was her death an accident or not?
This will keep you guessing til the end and I would recommend it. But, to me not a couple I felt a connection to in the romantic way.
One part I couldn’t figure out is the two sister’s have a way to escape, but they don’t they send the maid Mary instead of themselves – WHY? If you are afraid to stay in Dodge, you leave – lol.
I am not a fan where you have to download separately an extended epilogue. Especially when I couldn’t get it to download – not happy. Why do author’s do this? Anyway, there is a normal epilogue one year in the future which I enjoyed.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, no romance for me, and a small tad of spice. (ljb)
Ever since her sister’s accident and loss of memory, Diana Dunkeld’s father the Earl of Lutterhall has been parading titled suitors before her; all asking for her hand in marriage. She has declined every one of them as she is looking for the almost impossible, love.
With each refusal her father gets angrier with her, he wants her married to someone with a suitable title.
This of course has led to rumors of her being a flirt with no intention of ever marrying.
Elijah Saunders, the Viscount of Cambolton, has returned to his family’s country home. He has been schooled abroad and only met with his family at their London home. Since the passing of his father, he now has the title and the estate. He knows he needs to marry but he knows there will be difficulties since there are rumors since his mother died after falling down the stairs in their home.
With the appropriate time of mourning passed, he agrees to attend a ball given by the Marquess of Forstall. It’s here he stumbles upon Lady Diana in the gardens.
This is the beginning of a relationship that would more than vex Diana’s father. He didn’t consider a Viscount worthy of his daughter.
He does however allow the courtship as this is the first eligible bachelor Diana has shown any interest. He also hopes she would reject him as she has all the others.
Alas this is not to be and interesting information comes to light about Elijah’s father’s demise.
Secrets, blocked memories, a love that won’t die and a surprising resolution combined with some heated scenes make this a page-turning read.
I look forward to reading more of Scarlett’s books.
This is a slow building suspenseful murder mystery thriller and romance. When I say slow building, I mean as you read page after page it slowly creeps up on you. Your pulse will quicken, your breath will be shallow, you will feel the tension in your temples, neck and shoulders. Then BAM!!!! The reveal. Unequivocally unexpected and totally unpredictable. You sit back amazed putting all the puzzle pieces together. Everything falling in place as it ought to. An exciting read with many twists and turns that will have you dazed needing to know what was to happen next. This is a must read. You will not be disappointed.
