Two blue lines. That means not pregnant, right? Right? Oh, sh*t.
Five years ago, Colm Frost asked me to marry him and I ran. I ran from my painful past too raw and fresh to escape. He was the only one who looked at me like I wasn’t broken and made me believe it. He made me feel it.
Now, he’s the hot, angry, hockey player on the mend.
I’m the physiotherapist who’s supposed to get him back on … the physiotherapist who’s supposed to get him back on his feet.
I don’t think our night together was what his doctor prescribed, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t dreamt of him every time I close my eyes. I woke up beside him with my body still singing from the way he fanned the flames of my desire, but I couldn’t stay.
His lips on my neck. His hands wrapped around my waist. His impressive…ahem, touch leaving me breathless.
One moment of wild inhibition and it’s come back to bite me in the butt. Kind of like he did that night.
But a baby? Our night was supposed to be a one time thing, closing a door on the future I couldn’t handle.
Will this new bump in the road be everything we needed to find our forever?
Heartless King is a standalone friends to enemies to lovers, accidental pregnancy romance that brings all the laugh out loud, angsty feels!

Yes, please!
Been wanting to read his story for so longggg!
I loved this book so much. It’s so great that I couldn’t stop reading even if I had to put the kids to bed and honestly, I can never leave a story by the author unfinished in one sitting because I became addicted to her books.
It’s heartbreaking, heartwarming and a great addition to the series as well as provoking with a redeemed hero. And oh my, does he have to work for it!
This series is one of my favourites and I would always recommend it
Where do I start?
First, raise your hands if you love a redeemable asshole. Be prepared to not be disappointed. I can’t count the times I want to reach through my eReader to choke him. Colm went off the rails spectacularly. Before we get much further let’s address the elephant in the stacks.
Standalone or Series? Okay although the book focus is on the main characters, those parts of the journey that you gifted by the author as we get to the end, a reader should experience. Yep, I insist. Be prepared – binge on these hot hockey players and the women who are their perfect half. Okay back to heartless.
See Colm does have a heart. Maya Hughes takes her time letting the readers, his friends, his sister, and the heroine to breakthrough. Colm basically has reached the end of being the problem solver. But he takes a spectacular way to exit that role. However, as he exits, he doesn’t come out unscathed. Nursing an injury and now a one-night stand he can’t forget – the hero just has trouble finding his way back. Enter the heroine to help with that.
And a plus sign on a pregnancy stick.
I couldn’t have wished a better ending to the series. The story shows its more than just the family you are born with but the one you let in. Getting that connection with all the KoR players – their bromance – was awesome to read as it played out on the page. Once again, Ms. Hughes has gifted her readers with fabulous characters, witty and touching dialogue, and a brilliant love story.
If you haven’t started the KoR series, get on and binge! Its what I love in sports romance.
“Who better than another broken person to look through the cracks in the armor he wore? Who better to make me feel something I hadn’t let myself feel in a long time? Alive.” ~ Imo
Love Colm and Imo’s story it has all the feels. They are both emotional characters that you keep pulling for and in the end love prevails. Their ending is beautiful.
As the last book in the series, it was bittersweet to finally read Colm’s story. Colm and his mystery girl blew me away. They were two people who were so used to caring for everyone around them, that they lost themselves along the way. The attraction between them was undeniable no matter how hard they both tried to fight it. However, fate kept bringing them together until they could no longer ignore their feelings or the unexpected surprise life threw their way. It was like the universe was yelling that these two needed to be together.
I received this free eARC novel from the author. This is my honest review.
I am so, so, so happy I got to read this eARC!!! Ever since I stumbled into the prequel for this series, I’ve been completely hooked on this storyline. On the one hand, I’m ecstatic that we got Colm’s story, but on the other hand I’m sad because this is the end of the Kings 🙁
I may be one of the few who feel this way, but I was a lot annoyed with both Colm and Imogene throughout this novel. They are both independent and they are both dealing with SO MUCH loss in their past that they really didn’t talk to each other about the important things. And that made for a ton of miscommunication between each other.
Eventually they got to the same page, but the road to that point was really rocky. And for me frustration. But there were a lot of great moments too.
I am so blessed to have been able to read this whole series and I know I will be rereading then in my future when I miss these characters too much.
Readers are going to love this novel! I’m so glad I received this eARC and I can’t wait until Maya Hughes’ next novel!
Oh my!!! Colm and Imo have chemistry that will set a room on FIRE!!! I have always loved Colm, so caring to his sister and one of the BEST friends a person could have. Imo was with Preston and my heart broke for her. The scene’s she had with Avery in Ruthless King were just heart breaking. Coming together these two form a bond and the healing of broken hearts begin. Their story will surly give you all the feels and leave your heart full. It’s truly a beautiful ending to one AMAZING series!!
3.5*
”You can’t live your life afraid of what you might lose, because then you’ll never embrace everything you have to gain, and those are the memories that make it worth it.”
First and foremost I’m going to admit that I’ve only read one of the other Rittenhouse books, and with that factoid in the universe I can truthfully say that you do not need to read the others to understand the character dynamics in this one. Do I think it would improve your reading experience, yes, but it’s also not a requirement.
Colm is in a rough spot. Maya does an amazing job putting enough back story in to really explain his state of mind and also the state of mind his heroine is in. This is essentially a story about two people living lives they thought they were meant for, and not really doing the things they want now. Holding themselves back in pain and misery, just in two very different ways. Clearly I don’t want to ruin the heroine surprise, and I don’t want to ruin the whole reading experience, but I’ll say that this story is perfect for anyone who enjoys surprise pregnancy with a heavy back story for both characters. Also the broken hero being fixed up by the heroine trope is alive and well here too.
All in all this was a good read. I did have some instances where I wanted to shake the characters, but I still ended this one with a smile.
The series is now complete and while I’m so sad to see it go, it will always have a special place in my heart.
I knew that the Colm and Imogen pairing would tug at my heartstrings, but DANG. This couple is pain, and love and all in an explosive way. So, so good, even when I want to yell at them both to get it together!
I’m so happy that I get to revisit all these characters whenever I want, and that the universe continues with the Fulton U series!
Colm really needs to catch a break. You would think a hopeless romantic like him would have better luck with women. And he is quite a cash! But his life has become a series of unfortunate events (not just with women) that sour his attitude and his drive to succeed.
Enter Imogen and you find a survivor. A woman with the best view of life, with the best intentions, helpful and compassionate but a woman whose best friend is tragedy because she is stuck in the past. Scared of more lost but desperate to feel normal.
A difficult pair, but the only ones that can see deeper into one another. They click and match and are meant to be. But what these two have in common besides loss and pain is a group of Rittenhouse kings as family. Friends is too simple of a word to call them. They are relentless, supportive and loyal. No questions asked, no hesitation. This is a greak ending for this series because you get to see how strong their union is in some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
I’m not crying, you are.
Ok. The final Rittenhouse couple. I am so sad to see this family go, but at the same time, I am so happy everyone got exactly what they needed.
This couple is no different from the others, in that they are clearly meant to be. Their hurdles are the defining difference.
They each have a lot to learn, with some extra difficulties thrown in.
What a bittersweet ending to an amazing series.
Heartless King is the fifth, and final book in Maya Hughes Kings of Rittenhouse series. I am sad to see this series end as I have loved every book written.
Colm is the responsible guy of the group. The overbearing older brother, who stepped up to raise his younger sister when their parents died. The man who is always taking care of everyone else.
Imogen, our heroine, is much like Colm. She is a “fixer”, and feels as though she always has to help someone. She has experienced a lot of tragedy in her short life. She has lost both of her parents, as well as her old boyfriend Preston. She feels so much guilt, and is afraid to move on.
This story has heart, drama and a group of friends that I’ve loved throughout the series. If you want raw, gritty emotions as well as an amazingly great read then this is the book for you! Ms. Hughes is a master at her craft and her words will always have the ability to suck me in from the beginning. 5 stars
This book is the long awaited conclusion to the Kings of Rittenhouse Series but I’m sure it won’t be the last we see of these Kings and their Queens. Colm is the last of the Kings to find his HEA and I have to say that his Queen is who I had hoped it would be because she sooooooo deserved to have a happily ever after.
The time frame of this book overlaps two other books one in this series and one in another and it was great to see what was happening from Colm and his Queen’s points of view. Have you noticed I keep referring to Colm’s other half as his Queen and I am not giving you her name, there is a reason for that. I am sure if you read some of the reviews written someone will spill it but I don’t want to be the one that spoils it for you.
Colm hasn’t had it easy he was the one that raised his sister since their parents were killed in a car accident his senior year of high school, he has given up a lot and did everything in his power to give Liv the best life he could. Liv has hidden some things from Colm and he wasn’t happy about you and if you read FEARLESS KING you know all about it, in this book we learn more about the way he felt and the reasons behind it.
While this book can be read as a standalone I would suggest reading the series in the order it has been released so you get the full experience of each of the couples since they are in all of the books.
Happy Reading!!!
I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
I’ve been a huge fans of The Kings of Rittenhouse since they first released. I’ve watched as each of the Kings fell, as each of them found their happily ever after. I cried with them, laughed with them. And now the final King has his book. And I am not ready to see this series go yet. I am not ready to let these guys go. I seriously cried when I realized there were no more pages to read and I had officially reached the end of the book.
Colm was everything I wanted him to be and so much more. I’ve been in love with him, needing his story with every book that released. He has so much love in him, but man, this man can take the best of situations and royally muck them up good. But his Queen was everything he needed her to be. She was literally PERFECT for him, and for them to get the happily ever after that they BOTH desperately deserved, I was crying happy tears y’all.
Maya definitely didn’t hold back with this book. She nailed it perfectly. Colm is the redeemable man you need him to be. The title may say heartless, but he is anything but. This man will utterly destroy you, tear you apart piece by piece and then put you back together all over again.
This book tore at every single heartstring I have, tearing the seams apart and then sewing it back together in its own way. There is only the Kings and their Queens now. They will forever be a part of my life and my heart because I can’t go back to life before them.
Five stars for this emotion packed sports romance that will have you begging for more when it is all said and done.
Imogen has been the sole owner of Colm Frost’s heart for the last five years, the moment they met he was completely taken with her, but she wasn’t in a good place, and no where near ready to love again. She had just lost the man she had loved for so long, and Colm wanted nothing more than to be the man to heal her broken heart, but she had other idea’s, one’s that had her running far away from him.
Now they are reunited for the sake of his hockey injury, but their hearts see it as a chance to reunite them in a whole different way. Imogen has since healed from her emotional loss, but is still apprehensive about putting her heart in the hands of another, after her last experience with love. But Colm is determined to help her see that they are perfect for one another, and that what they have is special enough to hold on to. He has his work cut out for him, but he is totally up for the challenge, especially when he learns she is about to be the mother of his child.
Shameless Kings unites readers with two wounded souls in dire need of love and healing. This pairing has so many things stacked against them, but it’s their love for one another that is about to save them. I absolutely adored these characters, both had feelings for one another, but had no idea what to do with them. Colm was certain as soon as he made his known Imogen would head for the hills again, and Imogen was so afraid to let love in again for fear it would be taken from her like the last time, but it’s Colm that helps her see that what they have is worth the risk. Watching these two heal one another and come together was so good on the heart, it was such a touching love story. One that kept my eye glued to the pages from beginning to end, I just couldn’t get enough of these two! I highly recommend you get your hands on this one and meet this pairing, their story is certain to have you swimming in feels and swoons the whole way through!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
Best of the series! Heartless King was the 5th and final book in Maya’s King’s of Rittenhouse series and I have to say I am extremely sad to see them go. Each of the Kings have a special place in my heart, but this book…perfection. The emotions were so real and raw, I felt like I was right there with them. I don’t want to give anything, so I won’t go into too much detail but wow, there were tons of tears before my heart was full! What a way to end it!
The one night Colm finally shared with her didn’t quite go as he planned. She was supposed to be there in the morning, but when he woke up, she was gone.
When their friends turned to her for help, how could she say no. But she was the last person he wanted anywhere near him until he learned her secret. But would it be enough to keep them together or would he push her away for good?
I was sad it was over but Maya sure saved the best for last. It was sexy as sin and I don’t think there could have been a better ending!
