Jacquie Morgan is an open book…Married young and widowed soon after, Jacquie can’t remember a time that she wasn’t defending and protecting someone. When her baby goes to college and her nest is empty, she decides to indulge herself. Attending the F5F Valentine’s Day “come disguised as your favorite superhero” party seems like the perfect solution—but the better one is taking “Superman” home … home for the night, knowing exactly who is behind the mask.
Pierce Aston has a hidden past…
It’s a history he’d rather forget, so Pierce is building himself a new life, with no commitments or responsibilities. F5F club provides a perfect place to find his new balance, with the bonus opportunity to admire kickboxing queen and human resources manager, Jacquie. Going to a party in disguise is right in his toolbox, as is a covert mission for seduction—but being with Jacquie is far more addictive than Pierce expects. When she decides to help him by unravelling his secrets, will Pierce be able to deny his perceptive new lover, even to defend those he is sworn to protect?

It was a joy to read about characters over 40 who are still looking to embrace life and move forward. Thank you.
I love stories with older heroes and heroines. Jacquie, the kick-boxing queen, and Pierce, the mysterious man of action, do not disappoint. These two had great chemistry from the start, but I also liked that they were both entering a new phase in their lives so they were unsure about how they should move forward. Unfortunately, the real world has to intrude with the start of the Covid crisis, but Pierce and Jacquie work together to get solutions for their family and friends. There were some real heart-pounding moments, both from the crisis and the sizzling romance!
I loved this story! Both hero and heroine grew and became better, fuller persons because of their interactions. Jacquie thinks she’s just looking for temporary fun now that she’s free of responsibilities. And Pierce is looking for direction now that he’s retired. They didn’t expect it to come from being a couple but it finally did in the end. I enjoyed the give and take in this well written story.
Jacquie Morgan is 45 and finally has an empty nest. She was widowed when her youngest was almost 2 and he’s finally off to med school in Chicago. Her other 3 children are scattered all over the United States. Jacquie lives in Manhattan and is the Human Resources Manager at Flatiron Five Fitness. Now she can finally date and enjoy the life she’s been putting aside to raise her children alone. She’s been eyeing a silver fox at the club who likes to work with Nate at the climbing wall. When he shows up at the kick boxing all comers match on Monday nights, she’s the reigning champion. After they wear themselves out sparring they share a scorching kiss. They arrange a date after they clean up but unfortunately Pierce’s past makes a visit.
Pierce Aston is 48 and a retired SEAL and bodyguard to royalty. He’s been doing contract work since the royal family were unseated by a coup. Now he’s run out of work and is trying to enjoy his retirement but finding it empty. Jacquie intrigues him. Unfortunately the princess he used to protect, now all grown up, interrupts his plans and tries to get him involved with her life again. He politely declines but her old chief of security won’t take no for an answer. After 2 second chances Jacquie finally has her date with Pierce and she challenges him to think of future options. And so starts their journey with a lot of roadblocks to love. I really loved how willing Pierce was to hear what Jacquie was saying to him and how Jacquie had to search her heart to open it to possibilities.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4.25 stars– JUST ONE SILVER FOX is the seventh instalment in Deborah Cooke’s contemporary, adult FLATIRON FIVE FITNESS erotic, romance series focusing on the men and women who work for the exclusive Flatiron Five Fitness. This is forty-five year old, human resources manager, widow and mother Jacquie Morgan, and forty-eight year old, former Navy SEAL Pierce Aston’s story line. JUST ONE SILVER FOX can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Jacquie and Pierce) JUST ONE SILVER FOX follows the building romance and relationship between forty-five year old, human resources manager and widow Jacquie Morgan, and forty-eight year old, former Navy SEAL Pierce Aston. Twenty years earlier, a then twenty five year old Jacquie Morgan was widowed and left a single mother to four children under the age of four. In the ensuing time Jacquie worked to support her children, never having time to focus on any other relationship believing she had found the love of her life, and then lost. Meeting former Navy SEAL Pierce Aston, a member at Flatiron Five Fitness where she works as their human resources manager, gave our heroine pause but Jacquie refused to cross the line between $ex and romance, leaving Pierce Aston struggling in the wake of their one-night stand. Lonely for company Jacquie continues to give our hero mixed signals as it pertains to their building relationship and in this Pierce refuses to be Jacquie’s play thing, if only for awhile. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Jacquie and Pierce, and the potential fall-out as Jacquie’s heart has hardened to another happily ever after, pushing Pierce out of her life.
Pierce Aston has done it all, and finds it difficult adjusting to civilian life. Constantly pulled back into the world of military security, Pierce knows that to move on with his life, he is going to have to set up shop, and locate the men and women he knows and trust but falling for Jacquie Morgan was never in the plans, and said woman was refusing to accept there was something more than a one-night stand.
The relationship between Pierce and Jacquie is one of immediate attraction but Jacquie makes it clear she wants nothing more than $ex from out story line hero. Having raised four children to be successful adults, Jacquie was refusing to settle down in the wake of the demons from her past controlling the emotional fall-out of the present. Pierce Aston tired of the mixed signals, walks away, but not before professing one last time where his heart belonged. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including all four of Jacquie’s now adult children; several members of the Flatiron Five Fitness family, as well as former security specialists who have worked with our hero in the past. Here’s hoping the author has plans for a spin off series focusing on Pierce Aston and SILVER FOX SECURITY.
JUST ONE SILVER FOX is a story of second chances, of a sort, for one woman who struggles to move on from the past. The character driven premise is realistic, inviting and inspiring; the characters are edgy and spirited; the romance is intimate, provocative and seductive.
Just One Silver Fox (Flatiron Five Fitness #7) by Deborah Cooke is a wonderful contemporary romance. Jacquie Morgan and Pierce Aston are engaging mature characters with an undeniable attraction. Their different approaches to life are what makes their story so interesting.
You can count on a character driven story with some surprises, some heat and plenty of drama in this book. It has the everyday situations and problems without weighing the plot down. The masquerade Valentine’s was fun but soon began a complex, fast moving romance. Entertaining in a way that grabs you and keeps you reading. Definitely a keeper.
The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved reading this book about a more mature couple. It puts myths to an end about no romance, no sex, no adventure once you’re a certain age. Well developed plot and characters. Can’t wait to read what’s next. Highly recommend reading the whole series.
Jacquie Morgan is simultaneously bored with her life and afraid to give her heart after the last time it got trampled, leaving her with 4 young children to raise. A one night fling sounds like the perfect solution. Pierce Aston, a retired SEAL haunted by his own ghosts, is open to enjoying one perfect night with Jacquie, but after the night is over, he finds he wants more. How these two haunted people find their path together to their HEA is a charming, contemporary story, set within the environment of F5F. As always, Ms. Cooke weaves great character development with plausible dialogue and intricate plots that will leave you thinking about the story long after turning the last page. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
This was an entertaining, well-written book. Jacquie and Pierce are amazing, their story held my attention and I couldn’t put it down. This book can be read as a standalone, though it is #8 in the Flatiron Five Fitness series. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series as well as other books by this author.
One alpha, silver fox and one kicka$$, sexy lady meet and sparks fly, chemistry explodes, fears kick in and Jacquie puts Pierce thru the paces yet he accepts that she meant what she said and tries to move on, but does she really? Loved every minute of it!!
Just One Silver Fox by Deborah Cooke is the 8th in the world of Flatiron 5 Fitness. Deb is a masterful story teller. The settings played out before my eyes in wonderful detail. The characters, full of depth and complexity, are hard to turn away from. The chemistry between Pierce and Jax sizzles! It was refreshing to be a part of story that featured characters that were closer to my one age, in their 40s. The mixture of fearsome strength and tender vulnerability in both Pierce and Jacquie make them both relatable protagonists. The vivid characters and remarkably clever, page-gripping plot, made this a fast paced read that I had trouble putting down. Deb weaves family dynamics, real life challenges, the Corona pandemic, romance, and an awesome cast of characters into a tale that just won’t quit. I loved every minute of it!
