Cat shifter Bree Dwyer doesn’t fear much. Ironically, what she fears most is the person who was put on the Earth just for her. Your true mate wasn’t supposed to be cruel and twisted; wasn’t supposed to be someone who’d never love or want to claim you. The rumors that her true mate is dead bring her only relief. Bree’s intent on moving forward with her life and building a future with someone else. … else. Sadly, the male she wants most is one she can never have—a hot-as-sin wolverine shifter who happens to be her boss … and the cousin of her predestined mate.
Aleksandr “Alex” Devereaux detests being bullshitted, but he’s been lying to himself for years—pretending he thinks of Bree as extended family; that he doesn’t want her so bad he aches with it; that he can’t feel himself weakening against her pull. The night they spend together changes everything. He’s done fighting himself on what he wants. Someone isn’t happy about that. Possibly the same ‘someone’ who’s playing mind games with Bree, trying to scare her. They’re succeeding, because too many leads point to the possibility that the culprit could be the one person that she’s determined to believe is dead.

Rating: I have an iPad and this site won’t fix it so the green stars work. So I have to enter my ratings this way.
The Olympus Pride starts off with a smoking hot winner!
Suzanne Wright is back and at her best with this one! It has all the Danger, mystery, passion and humor of some of the earlier Phoenix pack books. I really enjoyed this book, there was a feeling of newness even though some of the well known characters made cameos in this book. It certainly was no about them at all. It was completely Olympus Pride and they didn’t even call on the Mercury or Phoenix Packs to help them in any sort of war or fight. Those characters only played very minor roles and only appeared a few times very quickly.
The Olympus Pride is mainly Pallas cats and as we know from previous Mercury and Phoenix books, the Pallas cat shifter can be extremely dangerous despite looking like a chubby little house cat. They attack very suddenly and quickly and go for the face and the head. They scratch and bite and don’t let go until flesh, hair and cartilage is shredded.
The Olympus Pride also has some wolverine shifters and some are loners that are close to members of the Olympus Pride. Wolverines are even more dangerous than Pallas cats. They can withstand nearly anything, even bullets if they get to a healer soon enough and they have long sharp claws that can shred flesh and teeth that can chew through bone.
This story is about one of the Omegas of the Olympus Pride, by the name of Bree. The Omegas are sort of like the psychologists of the shifter community and there is always a Primary Omega and one or many Omegas under the Primary. The Primary is always the one with the strongest Omega powers. Even though Bree’s power’s grew very fast and now she can do more than her Primary Dani, she doesn’t want the job of Omega. She just wants things to stay as they are.
Bree met her true mate when she was five years old, but she knew right away that Paxton wasn’t right. She already had some of her Omega powers to feel the emotions of other people and she could tell that he was just empty of all emotion. She knew right away that she didn’t want to be his mate. He didn’t want to be tied down to a mate either and left the Pride. They had heard horrible stories of people he had tortured and killed over the years but all the stories stopped about four years ago, so most people think he is dead.
Bree works at a Jewelry store and has had a crush on her boss Aleksandr Devereaux for years, he is part owner of the store and a Wolverine shifter since his mother is a Wolverine, though his father is a Pallas cat. He is also the cousin of Bree’s fated Mate Paxton. The romance between Alex and Bree in this book is so hot that it doesn’t matter that they aren’t each other’s true mates. I kind of like it that they chose each other.
The mystery of everything that is going on is pretty great as well. I never guessed who was behind everything until it all came out. I almost hate it when authors give the reader too many clues because I like to be surprised for the big reveal, even if you guess and you are correct. Then it is just a guess and it isn’t because it was glaringly obvious due to all the overt clues.
Anyway the book was awesome. The villain(s) are also fantastic. The romance absolutely sizzling like bacon on a fire. The humor was great. Watch out for the Russians…
Another great series by Suzanne Wright! Can’t wait for more Olympus Pride books.
Plenty of ups and down in the flow of the storyline to keep a reader guessing what is going to happen next.
A very gruff wolverine, a sassy cat, pscho mate(ahem- ex), idiotic hyenas and more. Recommend reading this book and I will read the next one – like now

Spanish & English Opinion
Este es mi primer libro de la autora. El blurb me encantó y el título también.
Bree es lo máximo. Es divertida, fuerte, diferente. Alex me encanta. Es un alfa total y la forma en que conectan es aún mejor.
Hay tensión, misterio, acción y muchos momentos hot.
This is my first book of the author. What a great surprise! The blurb is great and the title is definitely attractive.
Bree is the bomb. She’s funny but also strong, resilient and great. Alex is The Alpha guy. I love the complicated aspect of their crush and how there was so much tension it was perfect to read.
Mystery, action, an incredible world building and the best characters!
Cat Shifter Bree Dwyer is an Omega whose true mate rejected her and left. Bree is fine with that, she is a strong woman and her mate was not her true desire, that would be Aleksandr “Alex” Devereaux a wolverine shifter and boss. Bree has made plans to leave her pack as she knows Alex will never feel the same way. When Alex finds out though everything changes and he wants Bree. However someone is messing with Bree and it seems to be her true mate. Alex plans to find out who is messing with Bree all the while keeping her close but what happens when more then one person is out to get Bree?
Loved every moment of this book. Bree is a strong character who is blunt and self assured. Alex is a bit of a mystery but when he finally decides to act on his feelings for Bree he is all in. Couldn’t put this book down, amazing.
There is always something to look forward to when reading a new series by Ms. Wright. I know that there will be adventure and some paranormal- shifter fun. She always writes about shifter species that includes animals other than wolves. . . Some I have to lookup just to see what they look like –> Do you know what a Pallas cat is or what it looks like cause I didn’t (though I do now, so fluffy and cute). I can be guaranteed characters that are sassy and spunking and can banter with the best of them. Basically her characters are the fictional family I always wanted where weird quirks or sarcasm is always welcome.
I liked that the author mixed her theme up a little my showing that maybe the fated mate bond ISN’T what is best; that maybe just like humans there could be shifters born that are wrong from birth and they would be detrimental to their fated mates. That’s what this story basically is. Surviving and trying to move on from that kind of bond, only to find out he won’t let you. Of course it’s a Wright story so there is plenty of passionate “bonding” happening also. Expect to catch up on some fav characters from the Mercury and Phoenix series as they have various cameos throughout the story. This series is going to be a good addition to shifter lineup the author already has
This is a spin-off series from her Phoenix Pack series and Mercury Pack series. Although you dont HAVE to read those first I do suggest you do so for the fact it will all make sense especially when the characters from those series pop up and several of them do. This book got a lot of mixed reviews. I think people felt a little let down because its nothing like the other series. They expected a lot of the same. I think they forgot how different these shifters are. They are pallas cats! They arent the warm snuggly you might think and we should know better. This has been explained from Madisyn’s book but I think people forgot. They are solitary creatures in a lot of ways. They are mean and are not to be messed with. There was talk about there is no sense of community and they are a little bit correct. Again I have to say it…they are pallas cats. That doesnt mean they dont protect one another. They do brutally. They are just different. You cannot compare them to wolves. Then you toss into the mix wolverines who are so much more meaner and deadlier. I think one thing we can agree on is that there needed to be more world building in this book. Although it is from the same world we still need a little something. Basically how this read was there was a town of pallas cat shifters with a few other species. That was it Nothing else was said. I sure hope we get more than that in the next book. That part was really disappointing. We needed more information about the area and other residents. I want to know more about the Omega’s and how that hierarchy works. We just got a glimpse. Now, to the story. OMG…I loved Bree! She was sooo straightforward and strong. She didnt not take any CRAP! From anyone! She was brave as hell and didnt give 2 SHIZ’S. Thats as blunt as I can do. That was totally her. I loved her for it. I have to say she’s a favorite. Alex he reminds me of Ryan and Cain all rolled into one. He’s broody and doesnt like to be around people much. He’s definitely anti-social and doesnt care about most things unless its Bree. He doesnt show emotion but he comes out a little bit with Bree. I enjoyed the hell out of him and they definitely matched although they were not true mates. I liked the different plots because this kept you guessing although I was able to figure out most of it because I wasnt sure. The big reveal I was like yeahhh makes way more sense. Anyways, I really loved the book. A few things I wasnt happy about but thats okay. I didnt experience any of the grammar or editing errors people complained about. So, maybe by the time I read it…it was changed or something or they got bad copies. I cant wait to read more.
I’m so excited Ms. Wright has branched off from her wolf shifters…and now we have pallas cats and wolverines.
When He’s Dark is the first book in the Olympus Pride series. It features Alex (wolverine) and Bree (pallas cat). Alex is snarky and a little dangerous, and Bree is super sassy and tells it like it is. These two together are fun and funny and off-the-charts hot. *fans self* I enjoyed this book very much.
I know I’m repeating myself but I’m a huge fan of Suzanne Wright’s stories so I was very looking forward to reading this story that is the start of a ‘new’ series. After reading and enjoying her other shapeshifters series that revolved around two wolf shifters packs (Phoenix and Mercury), I was very curious about this ‘new’ shapeshifters series that revolve around a ‘pack’ of pallas cats.
If you are new to this writer or these series, you can read this book without reading the books of the two other shapeshifters series first BUT if you have read them then you will be happy to know that you will see a few familiar faces in this story too. Like, Vinnie who’s the alpha of the Pallas cats and his two sons and then there is Alex (the main male character in this story!), he’s a wolverine and Mila’s brother (she was the main female character in ‘Untamed delights and is mated to the wolf shifter Dominic
I loved this story very much! To be honest, I didn’t really know what to expect of this ‘new’ series. So I had a few questions before starting it, like would the world building be different than the other two series, would the writing be different? But to my delight, the world building, the writing style, the humour, the steamy sex scenes and all the other things that I loved so much in the other series were also here present in this story. The really only difference between this new series and the other two series is that this series is about pallas cats and it had new characters in it.
I loved Bree and Alex very much! Both characters were very interesting in their own way. Bree was not only a pallas cat but also an omega, a very strong one. It was very interesting to learn more about omegas in this story, their strengths, their weaknesses, their value to the pack. One of the things that made Bree’s character so entertaining was that she didn’t really used a soft approach. No! She was honest and sometimes even blunt that was what people needed at times.
Both Bree and Alex had met and lost their true mates but unlike other shapeshifters they weren’t suffering from the lost. Bree met her true mate when she was still young but he was so dark inside that she and her pallas cat rejected him and Alex only met his true mate just before she died so there wasn’t time to bond together yet.
But Bree and Alex may not be true mates, there has always been an attraction between them from the moment Bree became of age. And where Bree was open to something between them, Alex had fought it. Not only because Bree was the true mate of his cousin but also because a wolverine shapeshifter is a very difficult and possessive partner. But once Alex decided to give in on the attraction, he totally went for it. The interaction between Bree and Alex was very hot and the banter between them and the other secondary characters were very entertaining.
Alex was one of the most sexy, protective, dominant and territorial man shapeshifter but Bree really knew how to handle him.
The story was told from both POV’s. I can’t wait to read the second story in this series.
(Unlike in her other books, this story did have a few edit faults but nothing very disturbing.)
I’ve read most of Suzanne’s books. I don’t like all of them but I do definitely love her shifter’s series. For me everything started with the Mercury Pack, I know I was supposed to start with the Phoenix Pack, but well… I read every single book of those two series and now we are starting the Olympus Pride series. I find it really refreshing not focusing on a wolf pack, not that I don’t like my wolves, but Pallas cats are so upredictable and vicious that they rule the shifters’ scene.
This book is a perfect start. I never focus on editing errors because in the end I totally enjoyed the story and the characters.
Loved it!
What an amazing start to the series! Learning about the Olympus Pride has been so much fun. I also loved all the small snippets of all the shifters I adore from the other series. I can’t wait to who is next in the series.
Alex is my favorite thing about this book. He’s a wolverine shifter, very powerful and emotionally stunted. His way of showing how he feels toward Bree was not only entertaining but somehow came off more sincere than if he was giving her flowery words. I may be twisted because I also liked how vicious he was in wolverine form.
Bree was the second thing I loved about this book. She’s a strong woman who handled tough situations respectably. Sometimes strong females just come of combative, but not Bree. That made me like her more.
I enjoyed seeing the crazy Russian uncles again. I hope to see more of them in this series.
.
OMG, did I ever need this book. Seriously. I was at my wit’s end and stressed out. Books were failing me left and right. I mean, who would have ever thought things would go so crazy, I’d be too distracted to get into a good book. But it happened. And it sucked. So I owe a huge thank you to Ms. Wright because she saved me from my version of hell.
The minute I opened up When He’s Dark and started reading it I was hooked. Alex was just the super sexy, hot, broody, alpha-hole I needed. And Bree was the perfect heroine. She was kickass in her own right, smart, funny and totally capable but willing to step back and let her man take care of business when he needed to. I mean, I couldn’t have ordered up a more perfect book to break me out of my world pandemic induced book depression.
I loved how Alex and Bree were so down to earth with each other. There were no overly flowery declarations of love here, so when one said something profound, it meant something. Once Alex got his head out of his ass and decided to go for Bree, there was never any doubt about the relationship between them. I freaking loved that. And holy cow, this couple had some serious chemistry that burned up the pages.
If shifters were a real thing, I’ve said I would want to be a pallas cat since they are just so freaking cool and badass. But, I may have to change my mind and go with a wolverine. I loved spending time with Alex’s animal and his mother and brothers. They had me cracking up constantly, and they were scary as hell at the same time. Everyone respected the wolverines, even if they drove them crazy with their constant need to break into places just for fun.
When He’s Dark is the first book in a brand new series and its set in the same world as the Phoenix and Mercury Pack series. Because of this, the book felt comfortable and familiar, like coming home really. It had all sorts of the action I crave, a mystery or two to keep my mind engaged, and enough heat to light my iPad on fire. It was exactly what I needed. Perfect really. So if you read this, thank you Ms. Wright. I owe you big time.
Rating: 5 Just What I Needed Stars
Soooooo…Ms. Wright has done it again!!! Wooohooooo!!! This time we have Alex, a wolf, and Bree, a Pallas cat falling in love! Yessssssss!!! I loved Aleksandr from Mila and Dominic’s story as Alex is Mila’s brother. This was a hilarious, sarcastic, action-packed, murderous, betrayal, and blood-filled read. I always, always, always love when our past characters make an appearance. Too freaking funny.
4.5
“You’re the person I want to spend the rest of my life trapping under the covers while I fart.” Bree stared at him. “If that’s not love, I don’t know what is.”
I’ve been waiting for this spin-off series. I was really intrigued with Alex and about wolverines and how they can infiltrate the Phoenix Pack territory when he was introduced in Dominic & Mila’s story, Untamed Delights, so I was really excited for his story, I was also not disappointed. We also now have an Omega. Bree, which is a new addition to this wonderful world that Suzanne Wright created. The storyline was addictive and superb. I really had a hard time putting the book down. The plot may have similarities from the first two series but it still kept me guessing.
The sibling’s banter always cracks me up whether it was from Alex & Mila or Elle & Damian. Oh and let’s not forget Valentina’s brother & James. I was also expecting some cameos from both the Phoenix & Mercury Pack, I love that they just randomly appear and my gosh Kye is now 18 (I really hope he’ll have his own book)
I’m also hoping for a Pallas Cat & Mink tandem
Anywhoooo…. I really enjoyed this story and I want more
Love this series
Oh. I waited for this, and it’s a split rating. The story is a solid four stars, and the execution is a mess, and it leaves me with an average of why, oh why??!
You don’t eff with a Pallas Cat, and you really don’t eff with the Olympus Pride.
The Olympus Pride is introduced in Bracken and Madisyn’s book Echoes of Fire in the Mercury Pack Series. Vinnie Devereaux allies himself with the Mercury pack as both claim Madisyn under their protection, and that is how we first meet Tate and Luke. Suzanne finished off the Phoenix Pack series with Domenic and Mila’s book introducing us to more Devereaux’s. Which rolls us into this series and my torn into two pieces heart.
Alex Devereaux is Mila’s twin brother and Vinnie’s nephew–but he takes after his mother’s side of the family, and he’s a wolverine, not a Pallas cat. But he does have a soft spot for one Pallas cat, and despite her being more or less inconvenient, and not his true-mate, she is what he lives for, or more aptly put, for what he’s waiting for while he’s passing the time.
Pallas cats are temperamental, crazy, balls of psycho. When they say one has gone wrong, you can assume that it probably is terrifyingly awful on a horrific scale of nope. Paxton Cage was Bree Dwyer’s true-mate, but when he disappeared and never returned, she was thankful because there was a darkness in him that her cat couldn’t accept as a mate in any form. The only shifter she’s wanted is one she can’t have, and she’s ready to cut her strings and leave the Olympus Pride to start over.
I loved the story and the characters. The pride has a lot of great new faces. One of the things I can’t wait for is Tate and Luke to have their books. I also want more–just more.
Some things in this don’t make sense to me, and it hurt my soul. The title is the first. The pronoun game sucks. I’m terrible at math, but my ages for people feel all off. And I’m getting a little tired with the reused plot-lines. And I do not understand why there are so many typos, grammatical errors, and word choice mistakes in this book. It feels fifty-percent edited, and as if it was not beta-read.
Suzanne Wright remains one of my must one-clicks. This hiccup won’t stop me from being all over the pre-order of the next book. I love the bones of her books, and if there are fashion mistakes, it’s no reason in my mind to stop watching for success in the future.
I have to say pallas cats are my favorite shifters!! When we were introduced to them in prior books, I was already fascinated, but to then learn a whole series was going to be dedicated to them I was ecstatic! When He’s Dark is the first in the Olympus Pride series and I absolutely looooved it! Times have been really difficult lately with the pandemic so that must be why my motivation and concentration has been so off. Nothing was appealing to me in the book world, sometimes I was just forcing myself to finish a book, but when this book was released I jumped right in and was instantly absorbed into the story.
Usually when I think of shifter stories, my mind goes automatically to fated mates, but with this author, imprinting is also an important part of her series. I loved how it was portrayed in this book.
Alex and Bree’s story was so fun, sexy and had amazing secondary characters. Bree is the pallas cat in this couple, and she is fierce and when cornered can be crazy! Alex is a wolverine and dominant and alpha as can be. He was broody and really not a people person and I loved it all! Their story had some twists and turns that had me at the edge of my seat. Their chemistry was off the charts, when they decide to see where their new relationship could go they sizzle.
I absolutely adored this book, it was released at the perfect time. I can not wait for the next book! 5-star and I highly recommend it!
