Having a billionaire step-brother is fun. My friendship with Gabriel makes me really love Winterfell. I mean Vancouver.
Although I got used to my new life, I couldn’t wait to spend Christmas with my dad and his big, loud family. When he canceled, I was desperate to find a way to not join my mother and her new husband on their romantic holiday. That’s how I ended up doing volunteer work at a local … a local soup kitchen. But, in a Cinderella twist, my big bro invites me to a ball.
Enjoy the second sweet and steamy episode in a slow-burn romance between a younger woman and an older man.
The book ends on a very steep cliffhanger, but the mini-series will have a HEA.
Next episodes: “My Older Step-Brother 3: Insufferable” and “My Older Step-Brother 4: Irresistible”.

Such a tease! This cliffhanger is borderline mean. It was there. Just within our grasp and Marissa pulled the rug out. *sigh!* The next installment better get here quick!
So… that aside, I found myself chuckling on several occasions, like when Melody came up with a single word to describe Gabriel. He may be icy to most but she seems to break past many of his walls. These two are definitely doing a seriously slow dance. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Oh my stars! This story about Melody, a young woman, and her older “step-brother” Gabriel was so worth the wait. We first met these two in book one of this series, so we are familiar with the characters. Ms. Blush has perfectly caught the attitude and demeanor of the young Melody, and she has accurately portrayed the stoic, sensible Gabriel. I am waiting with bated breath for the next installment. Even if you are not a fan of cliff-hangers, this book was worth the anticipation.

Christmas Holidays, charity balls and midnight skinnydipping
My Older Step-Brother 2: Innocent is the second episode in the Girls Playing with Fire series by Marissa Blush. The story of Melody and her much older step-brother Gabriel is one hot and steamy story. Melody has settled into her new home and life with a reliance on Gabriel, who she phones every night to talk with. Christmas is approaching and Melody is excited to be spending it with her father leaving her mother and James to go to Paris for three weeks. But last minute her father has to cancel as he is being sent overseas on a mission, as he is a Navy SEAL. This leaves Melody is a dilemma as she does not want to got to Paris with her mother and James but she needs to figure out a way to stay in Vancouver by herself. Through her school she finds a soup kitchen to volunteer at each day and so she is left in town. She is not completely alone as she does have Gabriel. Over brunch on Saturday Gabriel they exchange presents and she tells him what has happened. He then asks her to do him a favor and accompany him to a charity ball on Christmas Eve. As she does not have anything appropriate to wear he is of course going to pay for a gown and all the extras. But Melody being Melody she also negotiates with him that he will take her shopping to make sure she does buy something that is appropriate. So on Monday she slips home early and gets all scrubbed up and clean before Gabriel picks her up. He takes her to an exclusive shop which has gathered a selection of appropriate gowns based on his instructions for her to try on. Each will work well with what he is wearing and the one she chooses will be altered and delivered the next evening for the ball on Wednesday night. There are several gowns that will work well but she does have a couple that she likes the best, but only one that she will pick as it is appropriate. Instead Gabriel buys her two, one to wear for the ball and one to wear on New Year’s Even when she is going out to a club with her friends. A new gown requires new shoes, bag and jewelry so Gabriel takes her to do the rounds.
The ball is a fun event but Melody is not used to all of the attention that being with Gabriel garners. Well it is fun also until she overhears a couple women gossiping and being extremely catty when she is trying to hide out in the bathroom. But a couple dances with Gabriel and then one with his friend and she is enjoying herself. Like Cinderella at the ball.
Christmas day finds Melody volunteering again. On her way home she texts Gabriel that she has left, as he had told her to call him and he would pick her up. He will be at the house in two hours as he has another present for her. As she is blowdrying her hair Gabriel arrives. He tells her to finish getting ready and he will put up the fake Christmas tree, as the servants did not put on up this year since no one was supposed to be there, and her present will be under it for her. She decides to wear the second dress that Gabriel bought her, a slinky black number, since he is wearing a nice suit. Melody decides that she also needs to get Gabriel another present and takes one of her favorite paintings on Melody when she was a child off her bedroom wall and wraps it up for him. They exchange gifts and Melody unwraps a large box that contains her favorite dress from when they went shopping on Monday evening…………as slinky number with a beaded bodice and no back. She changes into it immediately and they have dinner together which Gabriel had brought with him. There is champagne, some dancing and then watching It’s a Wonderful Life. Melody wakes a while later to find Gabriel asleep on the couch and she does something very naughty. She leaves the room only to go for a midnight swim in her underwear where Gabriel finds her once again. This time things get very heated when she pulls him into the pool, and it is not just his temper.
This second installment was engaging to read. The story-line is interesting and going places that I had not thought it would. The characters of Melody and Gabriel are still interesting and growing with hints as to what may be coming. Melody is still sweet but showing more of her negotiating skills to get what she wants and Gabriel is learning to give in to her more, which he seems to be enjoying more.
Melody has built a great friendship with Gabriel but when their parents call a family dinner and announce that they eloped everything changes. They leave the dinner together and end up back at Gabriel’s place talking and drinking about what their parents have done. The next morning they barely get to talk before they rush to get Melody home to get ready for school. Then all Melody thinks about is Christmas break with her father and then he gets deployed at the last minute. So instead of telling anyone she volunteers for some school activities and stays home. When Gabriel finds out he invites her out with him one evening. Will Melody finally get what she wants?
This is a great installment to this series/ It ends in a cliffhanger because its a series. This is a well written and very entertaining series. I would recommend this book to any book lover. I can’t wait until the next book in this series.

Melody’s Christmas plans get canceled at the last minute. As much as she is disappointed, she understands but she will do anything to not be a third wheel on her mom and her new husband’s trip. She is thrilled when she realizes that she’ll get to spend some time with her stepbrother. The characters are hard to read, determined, and intriguing. The storyline has suspense, excitement, and surprises. A great continuation of the first book while adding additional suspense and intrigue. I can’t wait for the next book.

Oh my word I’m loving the dark, smooth, brooding Gabriel. I felt sad for Melody when her Dad told her she wouldn’t be seeing him over Christmas but saw little bits of excitement when Gabriel took her dress shopping. When he bought her the favourite dress she’d seen in the shop for another present I started to think things were looking up with the sexual chemistry between then but he left her again & I thought I was getting my wish at the end until it turned out to be a dream…this is killing me.

I loved this next installment of this series. The characters are interesting and the story is evolving and entertaining.
Melody has a great friendship with her new stepbrother Gabriel. Sometimes, she wants it to be more, but she tries not to do anything to make him become a hedgehog around her. She’s getting used to her new life, but she was looking forward to spending Christmas with her dad. When Melody’s dad is deployed, she has to come up with a way to NOT go with her mom and stepdad for Christmas. Her solution? Volunteer at a local soup kitchen. Once Gabriel finds out about her change in plans, he invites Melody to attend a ball with him. Melody is surprised but also excited to see how things go.
Cliffhanger! Major cliffhanger! I was like, wait, what? NOOOOOO! Totally had me going and then… ugh! But ok, fine. Gimme the next one, cause I need it!
But seriously, I really love that Melody seems to be bringing Gabriel out of his shell as much as he is making her more self-assured. I’m kind of hoping that she will remind him of how much he loved drawing and he will start doing that again. I still like that Gabriel makes Melody a priority and that they talk every day. I recommend reading this book.

In this second piece of the series, Melody is eager to spend Christmas with her dad, but he had to cancel their plans. She didn’t want to interfere with her mom who was celebrating a romantic holiday with her new husband, so she volunteered to be useful to others by working at the soup kitchen. Gabriel steps in and invites Melody to a ball, just like Cinderella. There is an undeniable relationship forming with Melody and Gabriel, though they will keep denying it. Will he one day turn out to be her Prince Charming despite their protests to the contrary?
Short but sweet, so don’t forget to grab your copy and be ready for what’s coming next!
AMAZING! A fantastic, well written read. An intense storyline that holds your attention as you get caught up in the fierce twists and hot chemistry. Plenty of excitement and emotionally heartfelt. A thrilling must read.
