I loved this book and could not put it down. The author has you on the edge of your seat the whole time. I really liked Victoria she was a fighter and was willing to seek the truth and do what was right. I really liked Aaron he was such a honorable person and would do anything for his family. This book did not disappoint at all, you will not want to put it down. If you have never read anything by this author grab this book you will not be disappointed.
This was truly a non-stop action and suspense novel! I honestly could not imagine how these characters were going to make it out of this story alive. Knowing that this was a Love Inspired Suspense novel, I knew that they would make it out alive and that things would work out, however, I just couldn’t see how the author was going to manage it.
Along with all of the danger and constant pursuit that the characters faced, both Victoria and Aaron carried guilt in their lives. It was different guilt for both of them, but it weighed them down nonetheless. The themes of forgiveness and God’s love were prevalent throughout the story.
Covert Amish Christmas was a high energy read, with main characters who had a heart for doing what was right and a desire to do what would please God.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
What a fun read! This is a fast-paced quick read. I read it all in one sitting. You get invested in the characters and because the book is reading fast and the actions are happening fast you just need to keep going!
You’ve got an ex-CIA agent. The man that she had hoped to marry is killed on a mission. But before he died he gave her evidence and told her that the person behind his death is one of their own. What a shock!
So now she’s trying to figure out who it is and time is running out for her. People keep trying to kill her and they almost succeed. Even after she moves back to the place of her childhood and assumes the first name she went by they still find her! How if someone on the inside she trusts isn’t betraying her!?
I loved it! It wasn’t your normal Amish fiction in that our heroine was Amish as a child but when her mother dies she becomes English to live with distant family. Now she’s back in her old community and life is definitely not easy. She’s reluctant to trust anyone. And even more reluctant to trust anyone with her heart.
But when she must trust someone with her safety and endanger them as well things start getting dicey. She’s still being followed and anyone could lose their life at any moment. Will she survive? Will she become Amish again or go to a quiet English life?
Definitely a book to read now! It’s wonderful and I loved it. I just wish it was longer.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through the publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. This was an intense read! Almost non-stop action and high octane threats has left both Victoria & Aaron vulnerable at every turn. I had no idea how they would outrun the dangers they faced or how they would hide from the crooked agents who killed her partner a year ago. How were they found everywhere they went? I had my suspicions, but I was left guessing until the end.
Forgiveness of ourselves plays a central role in this book. Both Aaron & Victoria must deal with their feelings of guilt for past mistakes they think caused the deaths of those they loved. I like how Aaron clings to his faith and how he helps remind Victoria of God’s working in her life. God brings about healing from brokenness and I love how Mary Alford portrays this in her characters. The spiritual truths sprinkled throughout were refreshing, my favorite part of Love Inspired books!
This is the kind of suspense I really enjoy, it kept me on my toes until the end when I could finally breathe again. Whew, what a ride!

I always know when I pick a book up from Mary Alford, there will be non-stop action on the pages from beginning to end. This one was no different! Victoria is trying to find out who killed her CIA partner and moves to Amish territory to be incognito. Danger finds her there and after she is wounded, Amish widower Aaron, assists her. There is danger everywhere they go and they don’t know who they can trust for further help. I did find some of the danger situations unrealistic which is why I subtracted a star from the rating. I received an ARC from the author, but all opinions in this review are my own.
Covert Amish Christmas
Mary Alford
Another spine tingling tale from Montana Amish country. A late night read as you try to help Victoria and Aaron figure out what David was trying to tell them. Who was behind all this? How did they keep finding Victoria?
A bumpy ride to a hopefully happy ever after.
A wonderful story with heartstopping action, enemy CIA agents, an Amish hero, and a blooming romance. Victoria an ex CIA agent is on the run from dirty CIA agents out to kill her she is saved by kindly Aaron an Amish widower. As he and his family get drawn into Victorias issues the danger gets worse. Trudging through freezing snow and being found out over and over again wears on them. You will be surprised at the climactic ending. You get a glimpse into Amish life and faith that is strong.
I have read a few of Mary’s books and she has never let me down. This is really a great story and loved the ending as well. Thank you for a wonderful book..
Fast paced, exciting, suspenseful and filled with action. From the first page, the suspense builds and keeps going throughout the story. Will Victoria stay alive long enough to find the evidence she seeks? Will she put others in jeopardy? Seeking answers from the past and making the decision to choose a different future depends on staying alive. Great read. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.
This was one of those books that you just cant put down if you love Christian suspense/romance! Alford keeps you on your toes as once you think its going okay something else happens! Strong characters, good story line and lots of twists and turns made for a great read!
Covert Amish Christmas by Mary Alford is one that was a quick read, by provided suspense all the way through. You will never know what will happen next! It’s packed full of twists and turns the entire way, all the while hoping Victoria would get all the answers she was searching for. It was full of love – lost love, family love and new love. You will definitely see yourself rooting for her. Without giving anyway away, it’s worth the read…and one you definitely won’t want to put down!
*I was given an advanced reader copy of this book. I was not compensated in any way. All opinions are my own.
I was able to read this one pretty quickly and finished in one day. It was very fast paced and that kept me turning the pages. There was a good bit of suspense to this story. I did feel that the romance thread was a little too rushed, but I get it since the book is only so long. Some of the scenes felt a little unrealistic, but it wasn’t too bad. I would like to see Ethan get his own story since I liked him a lot. This was my first book by this author. It wasn’t too bad.
I was given a complimentary copy of this ebook from the author, but was not required to write a review. The thoughts and comments are my own.
Covert Amish Christmas is the first Amish story I’ve read so I wasn’t sure what to expect. This is a Love Inspired Suspense and it lives up to the genre. From the beginning and throughout the book, tension continues to escalate. I realized my shoulders were tightening when the characters kept getting thrown into worse situations than they had just escaped. Good thing this is a shorter novel or I’d be going for a massage just to get the knots worked out! An enjoyable read.
This story was pretty much non-stop action from the first page. Throwing together a spy and an Amish man at Christmas time made for quite a read. This certainly was not your usual Amish story.
Victoria is an ex CIA agent who is still reeling from the death of her team. Not only that but she believes the very organization she used to work for is gunning for her. Well, someone certainly is and they prove that they will stop at nothing, not even for the Amish to get to her and her evidence. Victoria had a great plan especially since she was Amish in her young life. But somehow her every move is known.
Aaron is an Amish man who meets Victoria in a time when she really needs help. And he has first hand knowledge of how these men would treat her. As a man, Aaron feels a responsibility to protect Victoria along with his mother and son.
If you are looking for an out of the box Amish story that is a thriller and takes place during Christmas time, than look no further than this read. This was a quick and fast paced edge of your seat story. I did enjoy it, no matter how implausible it seemed, just for it’s uniqueness and great fiction escape.
I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
Covert Amish Christmas is one of those books that left me with mixed feelings.
There are parts of this novel that I really enjoyed. From the first page, the suspense begins and doesn’t let up until the very end, which I love. Though my heart goes out to Victoria and the unfortunate situation that she finds herself in, I found myself struggling to connect with her, and honestly I’m not sure, because I found myself instantly charmed by Aaron. From the moment you meet Aaron you can see that he is a man of integrity, wanting to do the right thing, and right the wrongs of his past, and I admire that so much.
Though you do get backstories on both Aaron and Victoria there is a lot of repetition as each character has inner dialogue and both struggle with memories and regrets of the past. The ending was way too predictable, begging the question: if Victoria was a former CIA agent why did she not pick up on what was way too obvious to the reader?
Despite getting a little bored in the middle, I kept reading in hopes of a surprise that never came into fruition, and I had to see where Aaron and Victoria would end up.
I closed Covert Amish Christmas with disappointment, and was torn on how to rate it. The writing is great, as is the imagery of the picturesque Amish community, and I don’t regret reading it, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel a little let down with what could’ve been an incredible read instead of an ok read.
