I think this book is the best one I have ever read on developing self discipline. It covers a huge number of examples and situations for developing self discipline. Of all the books and audio books I’ve had, this is the only one that has actually told me how to do it.
You wanna be successful? Step 1, read this book.
The book ehh same old stuff nothing special. What was special is the ton of spam emails from the author delivered daily.
Quick, easy read with well written summaries of some powerful life changing research and a plan of action to get even the most undisciplined ready to consider changing their ways. The author did a good job of describing what discipline is and why one might want to develop discipline and yet noted what can make doing so difficult. The author did a good job of illustrating how discipline can do more than simply help us accomplish more. Strong discipline is, as Walter reports, life transforming and good for the soul. One of the strongest chapters was on ways to create good life/work habits and avoid burnout. I work with people who are struggling with goal attainment, and will recommend this book to my clients.

This book is written so thoroughly as to give each one of us the incentive and push towards developing Self-discipline, willpower, self-control, and self-regulation, which leads to developing a Mentally Tough character in a competitive world. Once we get the incentive and develop a mindset …as the author explains…we will be able to press on and achieve our goals.
Walter has linked self-discipline with accomplishment and well being.
This is one of the best books changing our thought patterns…to develop a positive attitude toward self-discipline and self-control. To help and teach us to make the our mind tough in order to achieve our goals.
This book … I highly recommend …as it will not only enhance your ability to understand and control your mindset, emotions, .. but will also give you the tools to foster the emotional intelligence to achieve many of the goals we set for ourselves.

This is a quick jumpstart to get you on the right track for sure! I usually read a book to see if it is the right fit for me and then re-read it to take notes and highlight areas that are thought provoking. I am eager to read it for the second time and make those notes! If you are wanting to do something different to achieve your goals and you don’t have a lot of time to read 200 pages or listen to a 15 hour self-help audiobook, this is definitely the book for you! I gave this book 4 1/2 stars because I feel like the author was going for a quick cut and dry approach to discipline, which is great, but left a few areas needing more explanation, like the chapter on meditation. Overall a great concise read to get you to “DO” something different if you have tried and failed or reverted back to old habits.
With retirement looming ahead and feeling like my time is waning professionally, I’m comfortable with the life I’ve built but wanted to give it one last “all in” effort to make sure I don’t regret doing something meaningful and important before age and finances make it more difficult to do so. Raised the firstborn of four in a military home, I’m no stranger to disciple and pushing towards goals. Somehow in the last ten years or so I got comfortable and this book reminded me of what’s important to achieve anything important in life and gave me the mental push I needed to “try anything.” This suburban girl with a corporate job is learning to ride a horse, plant a garden and raise chickens because why not? A quick and thought provoking read, I appreciated the nudge to set and pursue some new and interesting goals.

The Key to Realizing Your Most Important Goals: How To and Why To
Daniel Walter has written a marvelous book about learning and using the power of self-discipline to get the life you desire. THE POWER OF DISCIPLINE: How to Use Self Control and Mental Toughness to Achieve Your Goals, is more than just a how-to book. It also provides context and motivating suggestions to serve as a why-to as well.
While the steps Walker provides to developing self-control appear straightforward, I suspect putting them into practice will not be so easy. You may be familiar with some of his prescriptions, such as the ideas about delayed gratification and the need to practice in order to improve your skills. However, the strength of Walker’s book is that he has assembled all of these ideas (each one of which sounds useful by itself) into a forceful, yet very readable progression of a game plan designed to strengthen your powers of self-discipline and help you achieve your most desired goals.
Walker addresses everything from Navy SEAL and Zen Buddhist approaches to self-discipline to the multiple obstacles we will have to overcome, including, for example, lack of motivation, boredom, fear, urges and negative emotions, and how to do so as we work to build self-discipline. He shows you how to get comfortable with being uncomfortable and how to build a system that will take you through the process of focusing on what you need to do to realize your goals, rather than focus directly on your goals.
As I continued to read this book, I felt that this provided especially useful information that I can use in my own life to re-focus my goals and strengthen my self-discipline for achieving them. I’ve started to think through my most important goals and priorities to address beginning now.
Walker sums up his approach to self-discipline by saying “It is possible for you to have the life you desire, but it starts with taking responsibility for the state of your life at this present moment,” because our selves is the only thing we can change.

This is a good book for anyone wanting to achieve goals but is having a hard time with it. Lots of the advice in the book is not new but there are several points that I had not heard of before and I feel most people will find some of this book of some benefit.
Daniel Walter’s book is an insightful read on self-discipline. My favorite chapter has to be about falling in love with the process. That’s where I often feel stuck because I sometimes get too specific about the outcome and end up not enjoying the process.
I would recommend reading each chapter slowly and let the words sink in. They might sound all easy-peasy and common sense. But implementing isn’t that easy but of utmost importance to achieve the life of your dreams. So read slowly, let the words sink in, and implement as you learn.

The author presents us with well-written, extensively researched and documented information. He provides quite a few URLs (web-links) for further personal research.
He shows you the benefits and potential drawbacks of being self disciplined, with how to set, develop, and improve upon daily habits using various philosophies and meditations. He recommends the reader to just “take action, take some time out, reassess your life, and decide how you’re going to start this journey. Don’t make life difficult and give yourself an unrealistic target.”
If you don’t mind fighting the frustration of the research side-tracks, and stay disciplined, then this is an excellent book. Remember that will power is not enough, as it’s easy to reach decision fatigue. With self-discipline and good habits, the reader can reset their life and continue to grow.

I read this book looking for some new insight but it’s just a lot of theories presented with little meat. Nothing new here has been presented and has been presented in several other books. There are enough books on goal setting and changing your habits yet that is what this book is about. I thought with the title The Power of Discipline there may be more insight into the human mind with some actionable methods to achieve a more disciplined life. But yet it seemed more confusing than helpful.

I found this book to be really helpful. It tells you how to improve your self discipline rather than just saying why you need self disciple. Definitely a helpful read and I recommend it!

I have a lot of books on this subject but to this day most remain on shelves unread. I found this book in my E-mail and it peaked my interest to read it. I have received a lot of training from others such as Dale Carnegie that resonated as I was reading the chapters in this book. I found a lot of useful things in most of the book and intend to revisit it again. After reading the Power of Discipline I noticed that I was already on my journey of discipline and found more goals to achieve through the book.
This book pulls together a lot of information on self discipline in a concise manner. I found the section on how to deal with negative emotions the most helpful to me. The section on how to deal with failure was also useful.
