She needs to stay. He has orders to go. They’ll have to trust God with whatever happens next.
Growing up in nowhere Oklahoma gave US Air Force vehicle maintainer TSgt Dyson what his momma calls itchy feet. His wanderlust has kept him from romantic entanglements for years, until the day an over-dramatic, strawberry-scented chatterbox slams into him and turns his world upside down.
Jenna Davis … turns his world upside down.
Jenna Davis was a quintessential good girl, deeply rooted in her family and faith until one mistake three years ago changed everything. Unable to admit her failure, she goes through the motions watching everyone else live their dreams. But it’s hard to find her purpose when opening up to anyone—even God—feels impossible. Then she meets Dyson, who personifies the strong, silent type.
Dyson gets her to open up and begin dreaming again, rebuilding the trust she’s lost in men and especially in herself. But Dyson has something important to tell Jenna, and he knows it’ll be the end of everything they’ve built. After all, how can he ask her to leave everything and everyone behind when he can never stay?

This is my favorite book in this series. Dyson makes a great hero and will have you swooning as he sweetly courts Jenna. He’s the perfect silent type but his affection speaks volumes across the pages. A perfect end to the series. I can’t wait to see what Jaycee Weaver comes up with next.
*I received a complimentary copy of this story from the publisher. My review was not required nor influenced.
“Just his luck, the first girl to spark an interest in months and she had to be three beans shy of a burrito.”
This is my first Jaycee Weaver novel but all it took was one chapter for me to fall in love with her writing style – and these characters. I laughed out loud at Jenna’s impressions of childbirth as she stood in for her friend’s husband – “What good could honestly come from seeing your best friend in such a position?” – and then again at Dyson & Jenna’s first meeting – “Was she still talking? Good gravy, did she ever stop?” Dyson’s dry observations of Jenna’s klutzy rambling had me in his corner right away – and in Jenna’s. I was rooting for them individually & together immediately & I couldn’t wait to know more about them as I kept reading.
Weaver’s storytelling engages the reader on every page, and she (seemingly) seamlessly combines hilarious wit and swoony romance (Dyson! Be still my heart for this quiet, steady soul) with an authentic faith journey & all its stumbles and struggles and triumphs. Dyson’s genuine affection for Jenna, the ‘hyper little sprite’ that he quickly nicknames Shortcake, is clear from the start, even when he can’t quite figure out what to do with her lol. “Dyson couldn’t remember the last time he’d laughed this much. Or wanted to kiss someone so badly.” And Jenna is completely lovable and endearing, and I loved watching how God uses Dyson to remind her of God’s unlimited grace & deep love – no matter how badly she feels that she’s messed up.
Bottom Line: This may have been my first read in the Everyday Love series, but I’m making it a priority to go back and catch up as soon as I can because I absolutely loved every bit of Whatever Happens Next! Weaver has created extremely likable and relatable characters, and watching Dyson & Jenna fall in love will leave a sweet smile on your face. The faith thread is so well done – it integrates naturally into the story without feeling preachy or forced – and the reminder that faith in action doesn’t hold us to an unreachable standard of perfection (and that forgiveness is freely offered when we confess and repent) is one that we can all take to heart. Highly recommended for fans of Sarah Monzon, Toni Shiloh, Kara Isaac, and Pepper Basham!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
This is such an amazing story. I love the Military aspect of it. My daughter married a Navy man and I have watched how hard it can be with him leaving and Jaycee nailed it. The hurt and loneliness came across perfectly. I love the all the characters too, they all just seem so loving and down to earth. Fantastic job Jaycee.
Jenna Davis, temporarily blinded by the sun, runs smack into a young man and he is instantly taken with this “pixie” that he dubs “Strawberry Shortcake”. Dyson is a man of few words and he soon learns that Jenna never stops talking, as in “Was she still talking? Good gravy, did she ever stop?”; he also realizes that “Just his luck, the first girl to spark an interest in months and she had to be three beans shy of a burrito.” These funny observations sealed my opinion of this Air Force mechanic—I really, really liked Dyson!
Author Jaycee Weaver has created two fascinating characters and filled their story with both humor and sadness. Jenna is a sweet, lovable, hometown type of gal, who seems to “have the world on a string” but she is carrying a heavy load inside and it takes a special person like Dyson to help her accept her past. Dyson has been hurt by a father who left when he was ten but his mother successfully raised a man of strength and faith and it is Dyson’s trust and belief that helps Jenna understand that God has forgiven her and He still loves her. Another star added to Dyson’s crown and it isn’t until he delays telling Jenna that he is being relocated that I could find any fault in this man of few words! Is it possible that the blossoming relationship between Jenna and Dyson will end before it has a chance to take root and bloom? Will Jenna once again be hurt by another man that she thought she could trust?
Whatever Happens Next is part of a series but I never felt in the dark. I will, however, go back to the previous books because Jaycee Weaver has made me a believer. If you’re looking for a contemporary romance laced with Christian values, you will definitely want to read Whatever Happens Next!
I received a complimentary e-book from the author but I was under no obligation to write a positive review. These are my own thoughts.
Wonderful!
I had only just started reading Whatever Happens Next when my husband walked by.
“Good book, huh?”
Apparently, I had a huge smile on my face. And why not?
From the meet-cute where Dyson and Jenna literally run into each other, to the end, my emotions were running riot on my face. Smiles and laughter. Empathy and exasperation. All the way to the happy tears at the end. Jaycee Weaver has written a deeply moving, emotionally compelling story that reflects the love of Christ for His children and the forgiveness He offers for our sin.
Jenna was adorable! Dyson had nicknamed her Shortcake because of her diminutive size and the fact she always smelled like strawberries. He thought of her as a sprite, a pixie, and when she couldn’t stop talking due to her nerves, a chipmunk!
Jenna struggled with her relationship with Jesus. She loved Him and knew it but felt that she couldn’t hear His voice or experience His presence as she had before. The sins of her past had her steeped in guilt that influenced her in ways she didn’t even comprehend. I loved the way she continued to seek Him and how she realized that He never stopped speaking to her; she simply was listening to the wrong voices!
Dyson was great! Single and happy to be. He loved his life and the way he was able to move from place to place. He was a man of few words and struggled to make conversation. I especially loved the first time he went to church with Jenna, though he didn’t have much of a relationship with the Lord he truly heard the words of the message and let them go deep into his heart. He returned home and found the passage which was shared. Read it. And owned it. And changed his life.
He wasn’t perfect, though. In fact, his fear of getting hurt and of hurting Jenna resulted in more pain than he had expected. His tendency was to run. And yet, to his credit, he was so in love with her, he just couldn’t stay away!
One of the fun themes running through the story was Dyson’s first name. He hated it and wouldn’t reveal it to Jenna for quite some time. Some of her guesses were quite humorous! (And honestly, the first name wasn’t nearly as terrible as his middle name!)
Each of the stories in the Everyday Love series stands alone and yet they are interconnected. Jenna first appeared in What Could Be, about her brother Josh. She is also in What Makes a Home, which is about her roommate. I recommend you read the entire series.

I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
Whatever Happens Next was such an enjoyable story to read. I thought that Dyson was a great character and I appreciated the way he truly cared for Jenna. When she opened up to him about what had happened to her a few years earlier, he offered a listening ear, a kind heart, and helped her realize that she was forgiven and loved by God regardless of any mistakes that she made.
In this story, both Jenna and Dyson had to learn to listen to God’s direction in their lives and to put their trust in Him. They had great chemistry and I loved the way things progressed throughout the book. Whatever Happens Next was a great addition to the Everyday Love series, yet can be read as a stand alone novel, too.
(4.5 stars)
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I have loved every one of these stories in this series, and this finale pulls it all together in such a special way! Jenna stole my heart in the previous books, and I knew there would have to be a special story just for her, thank goodness Jaycee gave us one!
“Just his luck. The first girl to spark an interest in months and she had to be three beans shy of a burrito.”
Whatever Happens Next is a fast-paced contemporary filled with some of the most humorous lines I think I’ve read in CF in a long time! It’s a seriously quotable book.
“Was she still talking? Good gravy, did she ever stop?”
On the surface, that thought might come off as rather rude but Dyson (he’s not much of a talker) finally has his interest peaked in a woman and she turns out to be a chatter box. Ever met anyone like that? 😉
Weaver touches on a subject that not many broach and does it well. She also shows how we can have a tendency to beat ourselves up over sin when in fact, once we’ve confessed and repented it before our Lord, we don’t have to keep dwelling on it.
It’s a good thing I’m in quarantine because if I had taken this book with me out in public, people probably would have looked at me weird. I found myself questioning Jenna’s thought process and advising her out loud on occasion. That tells me I was I enjoying this novel for more than just the one-liners.
I was provided an electronic copy of the book from the author. All opinions are my own.
Spunky, talkative, artistic Jenna literally collides into Dyson. Dyson, who is in the Air Force, is captivated by Jenna. Jenna has baggage from her past relationship and is trying to figure out what to do with her life. Dyson believes in her, encouraging her to believe in herself. Jaycee Weaver amused me by their banter, and I loved the epilogue. I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Jenna is spunky, artistic and trying to figure out what to do with her life. She literally runs into Dyson who is warm, sweet and in the air force. Dyson is a sucker for her pretty eyes, strawberry scent and spunk. She was so full of life he never remembered laughing so much. Dyson wasn’t looking for relationship because he knew he would soon be getting his next orders. Jenna is looking for a purpose. She has a-lot of baggage from her last relationship. Dyson believes in Jenna. With his love she starts to believe in herself. I loved the epilogue of this book. This book wonderful balance of romance and humor. I would totally recommend this author to anyone who loves christian romance
Sometimes our life doesn’t go the way we think it should; we make choices we shouldn’t make, then we feel alone and far away from God. It’s times like that we need to stop and listen for God’s voice. It’s there even when we think it isn’t.
Jenna wanted to live a peaceful life; she really did want the life others had, yet, she didn’t feel she deserved it.
This story is a delightful story about, hopes, dreams, mistakes, deep longings, and hurts. It’s a story that will touch your heart and leave you feeling encouraged, knowing God’s got all your dreams and He’s right there waiting for you to reach out.
Jaycee Weaver is a wonderful author who spins beautiful stories. Whenever I pick up one of her books I’m blessed. She packs fun quirky moments and deep life lessons into each of her books.
I highly recommend you pick this book up. You might also want to pick the other books in this sweet collection of books, to get to know some of the other characters in this story.
I was given this book by the author which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Another great read from Jaycee. She perfectly captures the unique issues around a military romance. She inspires us all to trust in the Lords plan and be ready for “Whatever Happens Next “
Dyson is one of my new favorite heroes. Love him. This book is a fabulous ending to the series! Worth the time and energy for sure. I will visit this book often!
Wow! What an absolutely splendid book!
I’ve read and loved three of this author’s novellas in the past, but this was my first time reading one of her full length novels, and I absolutely adored this book from start to finish!

This book made me laugh out loud, and happy sigh more times than I can count! The faith story was fabulous and touched my heart deeply!
I love that Jaycee Weaver’s books have a strong faith story, and it’s always so brilliantly written! This author doesn’t sugarcoat the hard things in life, and the faith thread in her stories is always refreshingly real, relatable, and life changing, but never preachy! This author’s books are the perfect example of my favorite type of faith story to read about!
I totally and completely loved absolutely everything about Whatever Happens Next and cannot wait for this author’s next book!
I don’t often set seasonal reading goals, but I decided to set one this year. My goal for this Summer is to devour the rest of Jaycee Weaver’s backlist, and I’m eagerly anticipating all of them!

A wonderful story of two different people who help each other rediscover their relationship with Jesus. One who as a a young believer went back to his old ways. The other went through the motions but she held on to the quilt for for a past mistake not able to forgive herself for what had already forgiven her for. As they meet and spent time together their love for God and each other grew. They were finally about to let go of the past mistakes and look toward a future. But would would that be together as he being in the service received transfer orders to the other side of the country? Would they be able to overcome this hurdle in their relationship? Read this delightful book by a wonderful author Jaycee Weaver. A quote from this book that wr should all live by – ‘Trusting each other, Trusting God for ever need.’
I received a free copy from the author of this book and this is my honest opinion.
