He loves him, he loves him not…
Oh who is he kidding, he can’t live without him.
Dexter McKenna is the man Matthew Sullivan both loves and hates. He’s outgoing and athletic, the kind of guy Matthew’s father always wanted him to be. And, he’s the last person Matthew wants to see at his sister’s wedding.
While undeniably attracted to Dexter, Matthew still resents him for his father’s constant … constant comparisons.
When Matthew finds out Dexter is equally interested in him, it forces him to overcome his painful past so he can move forward with his future.

When they were in high school Matthew blamed Dexter for his problems with his father. Seven years later Matthew comes home for his sister’s wedding and he has to face Dexter who is the best man in the wedding. I enjoyed reading this short story.
I liked the plot. . . The dad was a real douche… I felt like the sister and mom were enabling the dad at not acknowledging the son way before he came out..

Matthew hates Dexter, his sister’s boyfriend. He realizes that this is due to the attention Dexter receives from his father and because Matthew is gay and Dexter checks all of his boxes. Years later Matthew’s sister is getting married, Dexter has come out as gay and this might just be the opportunity to finally tell Dexter how he feels; after all hate and love aren’t that far apart. This short story is told in alternating POV.
This is not a long novel, it’s relatively short. I think that due to its length it made it better because of how the story was written. The story alternates POV of the main characters, in which they tell the reader about their lives in high school and up to the present. Normally in a story, the author should focus showing the reader rather then telling because it’s boring with no indicators of how the person feels, just that they feel a certain way. So, I always recommend showing emotions rather than telling emotions. However, in this novel it works because going into it you know how short the story is and frankly I was intrigued how the connection that Matthew and Dexter had. I wanted to know more about the characters, and I think that despite the narration this says a lot about the author, that her characters pull you in, even if typically this telling structure is not as descriptive as showing. It’s nice and sweet, so give it a try!
This story is way too short! Matthew’s dad expected an athlete, he didn’t get one. He expected many things and Matthew continuted to not mee them. His younger sister met all of them then becaue the family Prncss. Dexter, was the dream man, athlete, academic, leader, everything. He told his dad he was gay and this dad, rejected him. Amelia, Matthew’s sister became his girlfriend. They were a perfect couple. Matthew’s dad, embraced Dexter. It was as if Dex was the son he will never have. Matthew, secretly crushed on Dexter while he still hated him for being perfectly him and being his dad’s substitute son. They both graduated high school, graduated college and started the lives they wanted. Then Amelia and Alex sent out wedding invitations. Dex was Alex’s best man. It was time to revisit the past and meet up with adult Matthew & Dexter. Absolutely loved Matthew, Dexter, Amelia and Mom, Jenna! Good story, well written, well paced. I wanted more. Well done! Both Mathew and Dex carried there own fears one confronted his and the other lived a panel lie for two long. Mathew was the outsider the weird awkward boy in school everything that his father hated he wasn’t athletic to smart to bookish his sister had success were he didn’t then she went and bought the most perfect and popular boy home his crush and now her boyfriend Dexter and he got all Mathews fathers attention he was the son he wanted along and when he left for college he left all his pain and hurt behind or so he thought and he will have to deal with his emotions about his father and Dex his sister is getting married.
Dexter pretended allot he tried to be brave like Mathew but after his own father rejected him he went away to college and kept his secret until and email from Mathew made him face his fears now he just has to convince the boy who is now a man how sorry he is and without his push he never would have come out and lived his life. Maybe he can finally show Mathew how he really feels how he always felt about him his sisters wedding is his chance but with Raymond’s constant cut downs and bigoted view on gay’s it won’t be easy.
I liked the flow of this story I only rated it a 4 because I wanted more I’m glad there will be more about Mathew and Dex in the next book and I won’t give away any spoilers but I think I will need a box of tissue when I read it.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review. Also purchased a copy.
I felt sorry that Matthew’s father never loved him or even liked him, then he told his family that he was gay his father refused to except him at all. He went to NYC to college and and was a great theater teacher. Matthew’s father talked to and treated Dexter a lot better than he did Matthew hated him for that. His sister got married and wanted Matthew there and they got a second at love after they talked everything out. They got married also love the happy endings! Now waiting for the next book!
This is a new to me author and I loved this story. Great characters and very well written. I couldn’t stop reading until I finished. I think you will like this story. I love the chemistry between Dexter and Matthew. Check it Out!

A bittersweet short story about two young men coming together after years of hurt and misunderstandings. Dexter and Matthew went to high school together but weren’t never friends, Dexter was the jock who went out with Matthew’s sister and Matthew was the loner/nerd hiding his crush on his sister’s boyfriend.. Dexter was everything Matthew’s dad wanted him to be…athletic, straight and perfect…or so he thought.. After years of thinking he was crushing/hating over a straight guy, Dexter comes out gay. Everything comes to a head at Matthew’s sister wedding. The guys confront each other and old hurts are healed between the two. Other than the drama Matthew has with his crappy dad, things are going well and they decide to move forward and forget the past. A very happy ending and the start of a new chapter for the two..

This is my first book by Carrie Davis and I can’t wait to see what else she comes up with. I fell in love with Dex and Matthew. Matthew has always loved Dex even though he thought he could never have Dex. Dex knew he was gay but hide it because of what happened to Matthew when they were growing. These two finally see each other after 7 years and the spark is still there and turns into a ragging fire after the confrontation with Matthew’s father and Dex standing up for Matthew. These two HEA was great but there is more to their story and I can’t wait to see what happens next. I highly recommend this short but great MM romance to anyone who is open-minded and loves a great HEA.

On one hand he absolutely despised him and on the other he was enthralled.

Matthew was a big failure his childhood was a nightmare especially when it came to sports which was a catastrophe lucky for his parents they had his sister she was flawless while he’d been relegated to the sidelines he could probably walk out the front door and no one would notice.
My sister attracted perfect people to her and when she introduced her new boyfriend his father finally got the ideal son who could do everything I couldn’t. ALL the kids at school were relentless in tormenting him and when his sister’s boyfriend stepped in to stop them from tearing him down he realized he wasn’t standing up for him but because of his sister.
On one hand he absolutely despised him and on the other he was totally enthralled.
As his high-school graduation neared he decided to be open and honest with his family which didn’t go well and then the last thing he wanted to hear was his sister opening her big mouth crowing she’d known all along an of course she couldn’t keep it to herself.
After graduating he left for New York to establish himself before school started.
In years he’d been in NY he’d never went home for any reason.
Then his mother and sister came to visit he’d been stunned when his sister shared something he’d never expected.
But he was bitter and angry when he fired off a message slamming him as coward.
So when his sister invites him to her wedding he knew going home would be difficult on so many levels.
One of the best quotes I know is to walk a mile in someone’s shoes.

You will love this short but sweet love story about Mathew and Dexter. There past is a bit complicated. Mathew held resentment toward the man that his father saw as more then a son then himself. When they are brought back together for Mathew’s sisters wedding Dex is determined to make things right and make Mathew his forever. This book was cute and sweet and I loved it from start to finish. I can’t wait to r d the next book in this series.
