Lady Isabella Beauchamp is beautiful, clever and rich. But she is not happy with the restrictions that Society has placed upon her. She is determined to prove that she can be so much more than what people expect her to be, even if it means that she is destined to become a spinster.
Lord Ewin Colborne has been in love with Isabella since they were little children, but she only seems to hold … hold contempt for him. When Isabella’s brother bets him that he won’t be able to find a suitor for his sister by the end of the Season, he jumps at the chance, giving him the perfect opportunity to spend time with her.
When Isabella gives him a list of impossible demands for a potential suitor, Ewin knows that he needs to beat her at her own game. As he attempts to distinguish himself as the perfect suitor, nefarious forces work against him, determined to see him fail. Will he be able to convince Isabella that her love is greater than her fears, or is he destined to lose her forever?

Another great story from this author.
This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone, but I find so much richer when read with the other books.
The characters are both strong willed and kind. They both fight for what they want even against society and family expectations.
The plot has humor, clean romance with a couple of twists that are surprising.
Look forward to reading more.
Laura Beers has a captivating writing style that I just love! Her stories are engaging and tender. I will never be able to pick a favorite of hers, as they are all five star amazing-ness!
This story was nothing less. Excellent characters that draw you in and make you feel a friendship that should be real.

This was such a fun and charming read. Right from the start, I found myself rooting for Ewin to win Isabella’s hand and heart. He is enlisted by Isabella’s brother to find her a proper suitor. Ewin gladly takes on this task because he sees this as the perfect opportunity to woo her and show her that he is her perfect match. The romance is sweet, the dialogue is funny and amusing, and the relationship between Isabella and Ewin is quite cute and endearing. This story had me captivated right from the first page and I was immersed till the very end. It was such a fun and delightful read, I could not put it down. If you are a lover of Regency romance, then I highly recommend you pick this book up!
I received a complimentary advanced reader’s copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Laura Beers’ latest Regency romance, A Foolish Game, book 5 in her Regency Brides: A Promise of Love series, was a fun read. I enjoyed Isabella‘s stubborn, confident, witty character. And Ewin’s imaginative, caring, and careful courtship was the perfect fit for their sweet and clean love story. There were some interesting and unexpected twists and a great ending. I recommend this book and the entire series!

A bluestocking that rides astride and gentleman in need of saving. What fun!
A young woman, Isabella, has grown watching her father hurt her mother time again. Now that she is of marriageable age, she has determined that she will not marry and risk the hurt her mother has gone through. Plus, she does not meet the standards set by society. She is a bluestocking and rides astride both pursuits she has no intention of giving up. Ewin a gentleman, second son of a duke, takes on the challenge to find Isabella a suitor she will accept at the suggestion of her brother. Isabella provides him with a list of impossible requirements her that suitors need to meet to be acceptable and the fun begins. As Ewin brings in suitors while trying to show himself as the best choice, they must also deal with families demanding marriage, a conniving father and brother, a woman determined to become a duchess, and the insecurities of Isabella herself. Such a fun story with just enough tension and drama. This is part of a series but can easily be read as a standalone. I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 stars rounded up.
I’ve wanted to read about Isabella Beauchamp since meeting her in a previous story. She’s not your conventional lady of Society. Isabella doesn’t care one whit about needlework or the typical mindless chatter most of the ladies participate in. She likes to ride her horse astride (and wear trousers while doing it–cue the gasps), reads the daily newspaper, and is interested in a wide range of topics making her known as a bluestocking. She doesn’t plan to marry despite her mother and brother insistence that she attend balls, the theatre and all manner of other social functions that she dislikes.
Lord Ewin Colborne refuses to marry the woman his father has picked out for him; he’ll only marry for love. Fed up with that ridiculous notion, his father has tossed him out of their home and cut him off financially, figuring when he runs out of money he’ll come back home, and do his duty by marrying Lady Rebecca. When Isabella’s brother complains about trying to find a suitor for her, Ewin makes a bet that he can find one for her by the end of the Season.
This is such a fun story with Isabella, her absurd list of what she wants in a suitor, and Ewin trying to find someone for her when he wants her for himself. I loved Isabella and how she didn’t want to follow all the restrictions placed upon women at that time. She knew the hurt her mother had been subjected to by her father flaunting his mistresses and didn’t want to risk being hurt the same way.
Ewin was adorable and so patient with Isabella. A man who’s willing to learn to embroider because it’s on a silly list made by the woman he loves is a winner for me. His parents also had an arranged marriage and his father had taken mistresses, so he decided long ago that he would only marry for love. I couldn’t wait to see how Ewin would break down Isabella’s defenses and get her to admit her feelings for him.
This book was a wonderful escape and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Such a cute storyline! I love Laura Beers books and this one was awesome! All of her books are page turners, and each one is so unique in its storyline. Loved it!
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily reviewing it. Great read! I love that this series still has the characters from the previous books as minor characters so you see their lives coincide. This one is a good book about Isabella and Edwin. They are perfect for each other if they will just see it. Good, clean romance.
Bravo!! Another excellent book by my favorite author!! My favorite part of this book is that the main characters hold fast to their principles, no matter what! This book just left me feeling inspired!
A bet, witty comebacks, a gentlemen in distress, and a HEA what more could you ask for. Isabella has vowed to never marry, she has witnessed how her mother has slowly disappeared due to a loveless marriage and refuses to follow suit. Ewin has been in love with Bella since they were children and is now determined to win her heart. Ewin makes a bet with Everette(Bella’s brother) that he can find a suitor for her by the end of the season. Meanwhile Bella makes a bet of her own that is she gives it a solid go and still has no suitor she is free to do as she pleases. And so our tail goes on as Ewin finds suitors to match the outlandish requirements Bella has mad all the whole trying to woo her himself. We get to see our dashing Nicholas and the lovely Madalene return along with wonderful dialogue. I highly recommend this installment in the series. It was a fun easy read.
*i received an arc of this story. All opinions are my own*
Great characters that felt like old friends. A wonderful story that held my attention until the last page. Romance that is clean with a plot that throws action into it’s midst. Cruel and calculating fiends wanting a title and fortune at Ewin’s expense. Isabella will have you laughing at her quick wit and her plots to ward of would be suitors. This story captures your heart and leads you on a path of true love!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
What a fabulous story. It was fun and engaging, I never got bored (maybe the Botany lesson was a little long) but truly a wonderful read. The characters of Ewin and Isabella are perfect. The wit and banter between them, make you love them even more. The twists and turns were An unexpected surprise! Well done Laura Beers on another great regency romance! This can be a standalone novel, but you were introduced to a few characters in previous books, so it’s fun to know other stories. I would definitely recommend reading them all!
This has been a fun series and I really liked this book! I really loved Isabella and Ewan. I loved the banter between the two of them and I loved how Ewan convinced Isabella that he was the perfect man for him. I loved that he was willing to do anything to win her over. I also loved that she was a very strong female character. This book made me smile and made me want to read the rest of the books in the series again! Highly recommend this book!
