A Laird and a Gentleman is the fourth book in the All the King’s Men Series by Gerri Russell. Scottish Laird Cameron Sinclair may be one of the king’s elite warriors but he is no march for the strong heroine Mariam Swinton. Cameron must do all he can to keep her safe but danger is coming for her right to his castle door. Sometimes a woman must do what she has been forbidden and tries to hide from others.
Once again the reader is reminded of how difficult life could be for women in this well-written historical story. The characters are sure to lease since both have strong loyalties as well as a code of ethics behind which they stand. Like always love will win out even when the odds are stacked against it.
An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is Mariam Swinton and Cameron Sinclair’s story.
Mariam reached for the shell necklace her mother had given her before she died. The feel of the smooth shell against her palm calmed her even as Cameron Sinclair looked her way, begging her with an intensity that equaled that of her father’s to speak out, to tell the truth, stop the tribunal and all the suffering.
Why could she not do what was right by defying her father and freeing Lachlan of the charges against him? Was it because after all the years she’d spent alone with her father she was as depraved as he was? For it was said that the apple didn’t fall too far from the tree.
The last year at Ravenscraig Castle had been one of the least fearful of her life.
She opened her eyes only to see Cameron watching her from across the crowded chamber. The look he gave her spoke volumes. It demanded she speak up. It begged her to do something to help. And it promised his own kind of retribution if she did not.
Cameron might never forgive her.
A Laird and a Gentleman by Gerri Russell is a 3 star book.

While this is the fourth book in this series I had no trouble following it at all even though I had read non of the previous books I believe it is a total stand alone. There is suspense and drama as we wonder if Mariam’s own father will be the death of her.
Mariam Swanton is the daughter of the kings witch pricker a man that has brought many witches to their deaths in this book set at the time of the Scottish witch hunts in the 1500’s and she knows that it is probably only a matter of time before he sets his sights on her She is put into the care of Laird Cameron Sinclair is one of the king’s elite warriors. What neither expected was the attraction that built between them or that he will have to risk everything to keep her safe
