One night changed an entire town. One girl changed my entire life. After she left without saying goodbye, I never expected to see her again. The fire that changed Hawk Valley was my first night on the job. She was my first save as a firefighter. But she wasn’t the first to walk out of my life without looking back. She was just another number on that list.I grew used to putting out sparks in my … used to putting out sparks in my personal life, too. But when she came back, I couldn’t stop myself from chasing after her. Just a fling, we said. But where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
Of all people, I should have known that. It could never be casual with us. It was always going to become an inferno.
Until someone else put out the fire.

First off, this book is part of a series. So, yes I almost 100% know you should read the first book. Zoe and Ridge’s story continues the intrigue of the lives of the now adults, who faced a horrible tragedy when they were teens. This book is digging into Zoe and why she left after the tragedy that rocked their small town. Ridge, her firefighter rescuer during the tragedy, has never forgotten Zoe. This is their story. There is mystery and romance abound. Dual point of view. No cliffhanger.
Overall Grade:
“When you grow up with nothing, it’s easy to recognize a treasure. I know how rare you are, clover. You’re extraordinary. And you’re mine.”
First, Emma Renshaw introduced us to Hawk Valley in her first book of the Burn series, Ember. This reader fell hard for the fraught, but steamy journey of Griffin and Delilah. From that book, I knew Renshaw had hooked me into her Burn series. When Ignite was announced, I couldn’t get to the ARC sign-up (I read them for an honest review) fast enough. Why? Two words: Ridge Sanders. In Ember, we see very little of him, but there is a respect for him illustrated through his friends. Knowing that this man with the qualities of kindness, compassion, and insight would have his story told, I knew I needed this story, and Renshaw brings so much angst and passion to this story that I didn’t want this story to end.
There are many beautiful qualities in Ignite, Emma Renshaw’s newest book, that require you to read it, so here goes:
*I’ve used this phrase often, and I’ll use it again to describe the general characters of this book. Ridge and Zoe, Renshaw’s heroine, are two sides of the same coin. Both Renshaw’s hero and heroine have been left behind by the people tasked with caring for them. In Ridge’s case, he uses his tenacious spirit to survive and become a successful, respectable man and firefighter. There is an inner drive in him that leads to his success and stalwart identity. For Zoe, her Aunt Georgia becomes a key influence in her life, always encouraging her life choices. However, no matter their journey, these two must deal with being left behind and those consequences. One does it well, while the other struggles to find their ground. I love these aspects of Ridge and Zoe because many of us feel the gravity of these hurts, and Renshaw’s story becomes a promise of opportunity for her readers whose experiences parallel Ridge and Zoe’s. This is one of the places where humanity resides in this fictional story.
*Ridge as a hero is a key force of this book. Every turn of the page lends itself to considering Ridge as some kind of emotionally mature, superman. Given his background, it’s difficult to understand how he can be so emotionally mature. And Renshaw simply suggests through his characterization that we don’t have to mourn our past, even though we carry the hurt with us always. Instead, we can exist in the present and seek out the positives in the now.
*In contrast, Zoe is trapped in her past. Much of Renshaw’s story explores her troubles with letting go of the past. And to be honest, Zoe becomes the most frustrating part of this story. Usually, when I think the author has taken a character’s angst too far, I will downgrade my review. Not with Ignite, though. While I would have LOVED for her to find reconciliation earlier in the story, I think it needed to progress as Renshaw develops it. In this story, it was more about my impatience to get to Ridge and Zoe’s happy ending than Renshaw’s apt storytelling that made me frustrated. Yet, there are people in real life who never move on from past trauma, and Zoe’s experience feels real to me. Thankfully, she finds people who love her into her healing, but it takes much of Renshaw’s story for Zoe to find her peace. Zoe’s evolution is the most beautiful part of Ignite’s story, even more than the romance between Ridge and Zoe.
*There is lots of great steam in this story. While Ridge’s compassion and kindness are put on display quite a bit in this story, his alpha-level tendencies in the bedroom “ignite” the page. These two are quite the firestarters for this aptly named romance series, Burn. And most romance readers love the fire, and Renshaw doesn’t disappoint in this book.
With each new book, I grow a greater appreciation for Emma Renshaw. There is an ease to her storytelling, characterization, and style. When you enter her books, she grabs you from the first chapter, and you simply don’t want the story to end. When Ignite ended, I was disappointed because I fell deeply for Renshaw’s characters. Thankfully, she has more books to come in this series that is equal parts romance and suspense. Emma Renshaw’s Ignite reminds us that we can love right now, leaving our pasts behind us, especially when those we love are standing right in front of us.
I love Zoe and Ridge. Their chemistry is undeniable. I devoured this book in less than a day. Just a few hours is all it took me to read this one because I couldn’t put it down.
The amazing Emma Renshaw seriously knocked Ignite out of the park for me, and I simply couldn’t get enough! Poor Zoe, first her parents dropped her off with her aunt (who she really loved a lot) without paying anymore attention to her, and then, a bonfire got out of control, killing some of her friends, and she felt 100% responsible for it. So, she & her aunt left without looking back. Now some year later, her aunt has passed away, and she is honoring her last wishes by going home again temporarily. However, once she’s home there are some big reasons that she’s put off leaving like one of her best friends, and Ridge the yummy fireman who saved her life that night so long ago. He’s very happy to see her again, as he never stopped thinking of her, and boy did they have some serious chemistry. It takes no time to ignite into super hot sexy times, and while they’re catching feelings, Zoe still intends to leave. Oh, and there’s someone after her because of that night, so Zoe is on edge as it keeps getting worse it gets making it easy for her to decide to finally leave again. So, who was that person?! And will Ridge ever get her back home once they stop that person?! Hit those one click buttons to find out those answers! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
This is book two in the Burn series. This is Ridge and Zoe’s story. It has been eleven years since the Hawk Valley graduates decided to end the year with a big bonfire. The night did not go as planned for anyone and left a lasting impression on absolutely every one. This story is so heartbreaking, for me this increased as I read and learned more about Ridge and Zoe. This story tells a different view of what happened that night and how deeply it affected these two characters. It has been a long and windy road but healing is always possible and so is a HEA. An amazing journey of past, present and future. I cannot wait to read more of this series. Enjoy this must read!
I received a free copy of this book from the author. I voluntarily read this book and I am leaving my honest review.
This book is amazingly hot and the characters will make you fall in love with them Emma Renshaw writes beautiful words. You can feel the emotion that was put into this book. Every book she writes just keeps getting better.
This book is a small town romance. Where one night will change everything.
“Two kids from broken homes who’d been cast aside too often.” one of my favorite lines.
Ridge and Zoe come from two different worlds yet they both lost their parents in a different way.
Ridge, the young firefighter, his life hadn’t been easy growing up. He is determined to beat the odds. His first night on the job is the night he will never forget.
Zoe had almost everything except for the love of her parents. Her aunt and best friends were everything until one night everything changes. Her guilt makes her run away and start all over.
Ridge and Zoe get reunited but will they be able to put everything in the past and move on?
Once you read the epilogue, you will not be able to stop.
This is a slow burning book that will give you sexiness, it will have you wanting some Tequila, and emotions that may have you reaching for a tissue.
I was sucked into Ignite the moment it started. I could not put this one down. Ignite is a can you come home again, can you move on from the past and finding where you belong story. You get passion, danger and answers that two lost souls and a brokenhearted town is searching for. If you have read Ember you have a little more insight going in to what Zoe has been going through. My heart ached for Zoe and the thought of the tragedy of graduation. Zoe is so lost and the last thing she expected was to reunite with old friends and crush Ridge while coming home for her aunts last wishes. I really love the heat and passion between Ridge and Zoe. You feel it coming off the pages from the start. Ridge is hot and swoon worthy. You feel the love he has for Zoe and as danger comes to town he will do anything to save her. I love that added twist in this one. I can’t wait for more to come in the Burn series.
5 Hot FireMan Stars!!
This story blew me away! Not that I was surprised… I love All things Emma Renshaw!
The guilt Zoe carries completely broke my heart. The guilt drove her away from the town she grew up in but the love for her aunt brought her back! I loved seeing her get through that with her friends and Ridge!
Ridge is just Everything! The way he protects is fierce and that is one of my favorite traits in a hero! I loved his background and how it molded him into who he is! The way he is with Zoe just makes me Swoon! Their chemistry is on fire! (No pun intended)
I really loved this group of friends that we mostly met first in Ember, book one in the Burn series. I definitely suggest reading that! The way they all form a family of sorts is what makes the story that much better to me!
I Absolutely recommend this book and this series! I was smiling, I was crying, and I was swooning hard! I love a book that pulls all kinds of emotions from me! I am excited for what comes next from Emma!
-received an arc for my honest review.
Are you sitting down? I have a shocking admission to make. This is my first book by this talented lady, and clearly, I’ve been living under a rock. How did I not find her before now? And holy wow, my life will never be the same now that I’ve found her phenomenal words and added her to my list of must-reads!
Eleven years ago, Zoe Boswell had her whole life ahead of her until one fateful night where she lost three close friends when their graduation bonfire celebration went terribly wrong. Zoe has blamed herself, and she couldn’t leave Hawk Valley fast enough, convincing Georgia, her aunt and parental figure, to leave the only home they’d ever known. But Aunt Georgia has passed away and Zoe is back in Hawk Valley to fulfill her aunt’s last wish.
Zoe was the first person Ridge Sanders ever rescued as a rookie firefighter, and after all these years he’s never forgotten her. He knows she’s not in Hawk Valley to stay, but he can’t help hoping for a second chance with the one who got away. He’ll do anything to see her smile and be her protector, especially when it looks like someone is determined to scare Zoe into leaving Hawk Valley for good, no matter the cost to those who care about her.
With beautifully flawed characters, expert heartstring manipulation, intriguing suspense, and irresistible chemistry, this book starts out like a bonfire and the flames only grow from there. You’ll be so drawn in and absorbed that it will feel like the book is reading itself as you watch the scenes play out in your mind’s eye. At its heart, a story of healing, forgiveness and second chances, and Zoe and Ridge will burrow down deep into your soul, their story will stay with you long after the last page, and your heart will thank you for giving it the chance to fall in love with these amazing characters.
Oh, sweet baby kittens! Emma Renshaw now is the proud owner of my entire freaking soul. This book is INCREDIBLE! She’s hitting you with phenomenal writing, powerfully moving emotion, the swooniest of romance and heat in Ignite. I thought I was ready for this book. I. Was. Not. There’s no way to be ready for what Ignite delivers. I flew through this book completely riveted to the goodness that was Zoe and Ridge.
OMG Emma Renshaw’s Ignite is on fire! Zoe was at the bon fire the night of the tragedy. Ridge was his on his first day as a firefighter. Zoe was his first save and when she disappeared from town he just couldn’t forget her. Zoe has carried guilt about that night for years. She is forced to go back to her hometown and hopes to get in and out unnoticed. Can Ridge convince her he is worth sticking around for.
This is an amazing addition to the Burn Series. The characters stories will break your heart and Emma will slowly put it back together again. Ignite will take you through a huge range of emotions. The suspense is just perfect and will keep you on the edge of your seat. This is a book I didn’t want to put down and can’t wait for the next in the series!
Thank you to Valentine PR for the advance copy. I volunteered to leave an unbiased review. My opinions are my own.
This is my first read by this author and I was REALLY impressed by it. This is book 2 in the series but it can be read as a standalone. This is a really touching and in some spots tragic story of Zoe and Ridge. They initially met under devastating circumstances but then lost touch until Zoe came back to town 11 years later. I loved Ridge and all the firefighters in this. I don’t read nearly enough romances with firefighters.
This book touched my heart and nearly made me cry. I will DEFINENTLY read more from this author and in this series. Instantly hooked.
This is book two of the Burn series. Now we see the events of that night from Zoe’s perspective and is no less impactful. Book one didn’t give any answers or looking back now clues but I was hooked on the people involved and the mystery. I adored Ridge and Zoe together yes the chemistry is hot but I loved the friendship they had just as much. This was well written with a few curve balls that I didn’t expect but they kept the story interesting.
I loved going back to the Burn series and getting lost in Zoe and Ridge’s story in Ignite. Though technically this could be read as a standalone, I loved the first book, Ember, and highly recommend it. Zoe’s life was changed when a fire after her High School graduation caused so much damage. She left town and never intended to be back. And yet years later she is back, but she did not intend to stay long. When she and Ridge meet again, he is drawn to her. But suddenly things are happening that connect to her and she does not want to put anyone in danger.
I just loved Zoe and Ridge. They both seemed a bit lost, but could they be what the other needed? Zoe carried so much guilt and Ridge never forgot the first person he rescued as a rookie firefighter. Now they cannot deny the chemistry they feel, but it is just temporary, right? Which a sweet and charming read with a bit of suspense!
Read and reviewed for Reviews From the Heart.
Happy reading!

I knew reading this book was going to be good and I wasn’t left wanting anything. This book took twists and turns that I didn’t see happening but I am so thankful that those twists happened because it was exactly what I needed. I had to emotionally recover for a day (in a good way) before I could even process in words what I thought of this book. So here goes:
If you love a good paced sensual love story, this book is for you. Truth be told, I am an avid reader of Emma’s books. She never ceases to amaze me with the depth of character development her characters have in such a short amount of time. In all of her books by the end of the first few chapters you already have a new group of friends. This is true for Ignite. You fall in love with Zoe and Ridge right away. As a reader you are drawn to their emotional twists, turns, and growth through the whole book.
Ignite starts with Zoe having to face her fears. There is no sugar coating, she is forced to face them head on in the first couple chapters. Her character takes on the most growth throughout the book. I mean obviously since she is practically running head first into her issues.
I love me a book boyfriend that is caring, compassionate, and a little tormented from their past. This is Ridge!!! He is not only a very hot (well extremely hot in my head) firefighter but he is just your all around good guy!!!
The twists and turns this book takes slay your emotions. There is suspense in the book brought on by a jilted person but you don’t know that person is jilted or even horrible until the ending. Yet, you still have some compassion for this jilted character. It was a huge twist that I didn’t see coming but once it got there, it seemed logical. I legit blamed myself for not seeing it coming. That should tell you what an amazing writer Emma is. Plus this twist brings in characters from her other series. I love it when authors leave little Easter Eggs for us to find throughout the book.
Having read all of Emma’s books, I can see the passion and love she has for writing. You can see the time she takes on each character. She keeps them down to earth. When I say this, it means that her characters are people that you could already know if life. That makes them relatable to everyone, which sucks you into the story even further.
When you turn that last page of the book, you can’t help but be a little sad because it ended. However, you then get excited because you know there is another book coming.
Emma Renshaw does not disappoint!!!
It’s incredible how she manages to get you addicted of her books…
Talk about FIRE… this book was brilliant.
The prologue is one of my favorites, the way she delivers different POVs about the same night… Since book one, the intrigue of the bonfire has been killing me and we get to find the missing parts on Ignite, which I cannot recommend enough
I absolutely loved and enjoyed this story so much. Every scene between Ridge and Zoe is pure fire!
The emotions and actions of each character was described so well you get all the feels, you can’t put it down!!!
Can’t wait to read the next book in this series
Ignite is hot, hot, HOT! Emma Renshaw weaves the perfect romance with a nice amount of suspense thrown in the mix. Tragedy made Zoe flee her hometown and tragedy brings her back eleven years later and into the arms of the man she left behind. If only there wasn’t someone hell bent on tearing them apart. I was on the edge of my seat reading Ridge and Zoe’s love story and can’t wait to see where the series takes me next.
Zoe and Ridge, like all other couples in this author’s books, proved to me that Emma Renshaw DEFINITELY knows how to tell an enthralling story. Zoe is running from the guilt of her past and has yet to really live, while Ridge has spent a decade wondering about the girl who disappeared on him. When Zoe’s life comes full circle and she’s forced to return home to fulfill a promise, Ridge lays eyes on his lost girl and vows to make her want to stay this time. They have one heck of a road full of bumps and worry ahead, but if this author can do one thing, it’s prove that love can and will save the day.
I loved Zoe and her ability to reengage with her life, even when it hurts. I loved Ridge and his determination to make life as painless as possible for Zoe. I loved their friends, their family, the ties to some of my favorite people from the Vow series, and everything up to the very last page of this book. And the only reason I didn’t love the last page was because it was that: the last page and the symbol of the end…for now. I look forward to what comes next for this group of friends.
Oh my stars. Where do I begin with this one. As we all know from the backstory from the previous book Ember, is that it is pure heartache and pain that these people relive. Zoe is no different. My heart ached for the pain that she carried since that horrible night. Everything that she took into herself when this all happened just broke me. Then you have Ridge. That connection between these two as instant right from the start. How he was there for her, how he just wanted to make her smile. Even through the years, nothing compared to Zoe for Ridge. Their story is rough, but beautiful. The doubt that Zoe has is something that will gut you and you cannot fault her for her feelings. I adored how Ridge was a fighter though. But he didn’t push too hard because of Zoe’s need to run. Through this story, you feel the depth of their connection and how much they truly care for each other even though they fight tooth and nail over it.
The one amazing thing about this book is the little side stories on top of the big suspenseful one that is the main thread in it. We learn more about Ridge and why he is the way he is. We learn how much friendship really stands strong through the hardest moments in life. We learn that love knows no bounds with timing and how it plays into everything. The twists that are added to this story gives it such depth and makes you fully immersed into it. I was dying for answers. I was wanting to know more. That tragic night will always be a factor but the reasonings behind things are even more twisted.
Overall, this book had me from the prologue. I was feeling everything that these characters did. I wanted to know more about what was haunting them and what was causing them so much grief even in the present. The amazing suspense and that twist made my jaw drop and I was blown away by it. The fluidity of the words, to the character build through this story, will have you gripping your ereader and dying to know more. It is raw, emotional and so passionate that it will ignite your soul and leave you breathless! Emma Renshaw knocked this one out of the park this time. Even the cameos gave me so much YES! Trust me, you need to read this book!
Two lonely souls from broken homes ignite the pages of this beautiful book that will touch your heart.
A town fire changed the lives of many people forever in Hawk Valley, but in Ignite we are focused on Zoe Boswell, a girl who feels responsible for multiple deaths that followed when a towering bonfire crashed to the ground after she threw in a family portrait and a young firefighter, Ridge, who was there that fateful night and pulled his very first rescue from the wreckage, a beautiful girl named Zoe.
It could be destiny that these two met during harrowing circumstances, or was it chance? Ridge’s very first call as a firefighter and a moment Zoe wishes she could take back that will haunt her for the rest of her life. Unfortunately, because of this guilt once Zoe is released from the hospital she leaves Hawk Valley and doesn’t return. Not for many years at least.
Eleven years later, at the final request of Zoe’s aunt, Zoe finds herself crossing the city border of Hawk Valley once again, something that she never thought she’d ever do again. She was only planning to be in town long enough to spread her aunt’s ashes, but the longer she’s there she finds herself staying a week, and then a month and it has a lot to do with one sexy firefighter.
Ridge thought a lot about Zoe over the years, but he didn’t expect to see her again. When she comes back to town he is instantly drawn to Zoe. The more time he spends with her, even though he knows she’s only in town for a brief time, he knows he is willing to do anything to keep her to stay.
The longer Zoe is in town, accidents begin to happen and those accidents all connect back to her. As much as Zoe would like to stay, everyone around her is in danger, something she’s always known since the night of the fire. Deep down she knew she wasn’t staying, but the time has come and saying goodbye is one of the hardest things she’s ever done.
Both Ridge and Zoe didn’t have the best cookie cutter parental upbringings and yet they both found their own family to surround themselves with and became better people in spite of their biological connections. I always love this message when I’m reading and it’s a warm hearted message to remember.
