He traveled to the ends of the earth for her, and is now seeking her hand in marriage. But what if she wants to give it to his brother instead?
Belle, Wyoming, 1882
It all started fifteen years ago with a bald-faced lie. When John Turnpike started paying attention to young and impressionable Lucy Mae Jackson, she thought it might lead to a marriage proposal. Instead, it led to heartache and … Instead, it led to heartache and such overwhelming humiliation, Lucy determined from that day forward she would never let anyone get the best of her again. Turning a sharp tongue on others before they could strike with theirs was the only way to protect her fragile heart. That, and ignoring John and his handsome but unpolished twin brother, Joel, until Joel finally decided to leave town.
Now someone is sending Lucy Mae anonymous love letters–right before Valentine’s Day! Figuring it must be another hoax, Lucy Mae decides to take action. She must figure out who the prankster is while trying to avoid the townspeople’s speculation. Or is her secret admirer John, whose wife has recently died and left him with four children to raise? Lucy might be willing to help him out if she can get him to say the words, “I love you.” That’s the trouble with Lucy–always jumping to conclusions, never thinking there might be another explanation–one that involves Joel.

Very entertaining, unpredictable story about a lady that the town talks ill about, she falls for a twin brother! Which one falls for her?
This first book I have read of this series and I found the story to be very good. I loved learning about Lucy and her troubles. I loved the twists and turns to this story line. There were sad moments and some happy moments that were very well balanced. This is a clean historical and a page Turner for sure.
I really enjoyed this story. Especially the twin aspect. It always leads to some fun twists.
If you’ve been following the series, Lucy’s story explains how she got to be the way she was and gets her own hea.
I received an arc of this book. My opinions are my own.
Lucy had been known as the town gossip and busy body who never hesitated to speak her opinion for years causing most people to avoid her altogether. She had loved John for years but John married Minnie, who had died. After Minnie’s death, John sent for Joel, his twin brother to come and help him with the ranch and to care for his children. In the meantime, Lucy had determined in her heart that she needed and wanted to change and become a better person. Joel had loved Lucy from afar for years and wonders if there is still a chance for him. You will need to read the book to see if a HEA is to be. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it.
I loved this story! Lucy has been a gossip in town and people had started staying away from her. She was in love with John and hoping for a marriage proposal until ‘the incident’. John marries Minnie and has four children. When Minnie passes, John asks his twin Joel to return home to help. When Joel arrives at the ranch he realizes John hasn’t been keeping it up, has sold most of the cattle and is leaving his children with Joel. Lucy steps in to help with the children while “John” gets the ranch running again. Can Joel continue on as John? Does he want to? Such a fantastic story!
I received an advance copy of this book and I voluntarily wrote an honest review.
Fifteen years ago, Lucy was in love with John Turnpike and thought he loved her, too. She was devastated when he played an unkind joke on her, and she decided she could only protect herself by being sharp with other people first. Now, she realizes people are avoiding her, so she wants to try to turn her life around and make amends for her past unkindness. Now,John’s twin brother, Joel, has returned after sailing around the world for fifteen years, but Lucy thinks he is John. Then, Lucy begins receiving mysterious love letters. Who could they be from? I have always wondered why Lucy was so nasty to people. Now, I know. Great story
