Cecily has her own reasons for wanting to see the doctor, too. But they fall by the wayside when she and Jason are attacked and chased through space.
Their unidentified pursuer knows who Cecily is. He knows what Jason is. And he’ll stop at nothing to catch them.

This was a fast paced, exciting, and page turning story. Loved the characters of Cecily and Jason as they both had sympathetic vibrant personalities and each was an individual with their own strengths and weaknesses. There is plenty of action and they needed to get the implant out of Jason head and a few of the others. There is only one doctor who can deactivate the implante and since Cecily needed her cybernetic heart fixed she also needed to see the doctor. Will they get away from the attacker that’s trying to stop them from getting to the doctor? This story had a great HEA with no cliffhanger in sight. Eight months after being rescued from the frozen Omega-Three-Omega where he had been trapped for years, Cyborg Captain Jason Formosa craves the simple quiet living on his friends’ farm in the Brava System. Raking up leaves from the constantly shedding gorkian trees was peaceful and something he enjoyed. But his new life was about to be shaken up when Captain Cecily Barris, who rescued the cyborgs, makes a visit to deliver some devastating news. They have been decrypting the evil Dr. Garrett Jacoby’s files of his illegal experiments and apparently he had a kill switch implanted in the head of Jason and some of the others. Even worse, with Dr. Jacoby dead, there is only one doctor who can deactivate it, and that doctor was last known to be on the other side of the System. If he moved from there, they would need to begin searching for him. But doing nothing about it is not an option since the switch is designed to fail at some point and it will kill him. Cecily herself has a cybernetic heart that has some issues she needs fixed, so she also needs to see that doctor and wants him to join her in finding him.
But someone doesn’t want them to get to their destination, and Cecily and Jason are attacked and chased through space. Apparently their pursuer knows who Cecily is and what Jason is. And It looks like he is not going to give up until he stops them both. Who is it? And why is he interfering?
This is an exciting addition in the Zone Cyborg series that will capture the reader’s attention in the deadly race to find the expert who can remove the kill switch before it intentionally fails and destroys Jason. Stacked on that tension is the mysterious attacker who tries to stop both of them from their goal. Grab your copy and see the foe they are up against! Will their mission succeed or be stopped before they even find the doctor?
The writing and editing of this novel was good, with few if any typos that I caught in the ARC version of this manuscript. The world building of the Brava System was quite good, and something we did not get to see in previous novels in this series. The characterization of both hero and heroine was good, with both of them being sympathetic, vibrant individuals with their own strengths and weaknesses. The development of the romantic relationship was natural and organic. The plot and pacing was exciting, with me rapidly turning the pages because I wanted to know what was going to happen next! There was surprisingly little angst in this novel, considering how much hinting the author did about the awful reasons the heroine became a mercenary. The was high stakes, with both the hero and the heroine’s life on the line. This story felt to me like it contained the Friends to Lovers trope, though the protagonists did not know each other well at the beginning of the novel. However, they both genuinely liked each other. The world building, plot, and pacing of this novel rated four stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship also rated four stars. Therefore, the combined score of this novel was four stars. This novel had a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger, so that is a big plus for this novel. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy sweeter sci-fi romances. I do not plan to buy myself a keeper copy of this novel, though I quite enjoyed it.
