“Are you going to hurt me now?” I asked, wanting to threaten him or put him on a guilt trip or somehow confront him with my humanity.
He stood still.
“Is that what you want?” he finally asked, not moving, just standing in the shadows and watching me.
Men like him didn’t feel guilt. They weren’t capable, or maybe they could just opt out of it. Either way, he wasn’t about to have a change of heart. … heart. I could hear the absolute void of empathy in his voice.
“Does it matter? What I want?”
“No.”
CARMEN
One little signature and my life as I knew it was over.
I’ve sold my soul to the highest bidder and there’s no turning back now.
I tried to run, but Eamon Hart caught me.
He has me in his chains and he’ll never let me go.
He’s a mercenary, cold, cruel, depraved…
And he’s also the most beautiful man I’ve ever laid eyes on.
I should be fighting for my life.
I shouldn’t succumb to his touch.
But I do.
I’ve never wanted something so bad in my entire life.
He’s going to destroy me.
And I don’t know whether he’s my savior or my worst nightmare.
EAMON
I don’t like pretty little girls. This one in particular needs to learn a lesson.
She’s so naïve, but she should have learned by now that the world is not a kind place.
And I’m going to be the man to teach her.
She’s so small and innocent.
With her tight dancer’s body
And her flawless porcelain skin.
The fire raging within me needs to consume her.
I need to hear her scream my name and I’m going to make her beg for mercy.
She thinks that she can find the good in me, but she’s wrong.
There is none.
I was never expecting her to get under my skin like this.
But here she is.
And now I’m the man tasked with ending her life.
Warning: Dark Horizon Captives is a three-part DARK ROMANCE series, but these books can also be read independently as stand-alones. Expect deeply flawed characters and violent situations. The books may not be suitable for all readers.

Carmen is young, pretty, and wants to be a professional dancer. Eamon works for a private security firm. He can’t believe his boss asked him to transport this girl, whom it looks like is about to become a victim of the sex trafficking trade. She might not be too bright, but he isn’t really comfortable with this particular job. By the time Carmen realizes how stupid she was to sign those papers, it’s too late.
Well written, and compelling characters caught up in circumstances neither would have chosen. Sexy, and dark romance with a happily ever after. Great read.

Crimson Bayou is part of the Dark Romance Series by Sonora Voss and features Carmen, a dancer who auctions herself to promote her professional career which actually is for a sex trafficking ring, and Eamon, who is paid to transport her. This book is an interesting insight into human trafficking but may not be for everyone with its flawed characters and violence.

A compulsive read which explores the pain of the past and gives hope for the future!

Carmen was a young woman who had dreams of owning a dance studio. It was the dream that led her to become a captive of cruel men intent of selling as a sex slave in the middle east. Because she was too old at nineteen, the sale was canceled, and her captor ordered to kill her and get rid of the body. Eamon was to be the one to carry out her removal. He was ex-military and worked as a mercenary for a security company. He was a man with few morals and even fewer friends, but he was not ready to take that final step by murdering an innocent young woman. This book is about their relationship, the attraction between them, and the traumatic upbringing each of them experienced. I found this book compulsive reading. Both Carmen and Eamon had psychological scars from their past, but by talking about what happened instead of burying it deep within themselves, there were able to explore their feelings about the future.

Signing on the dotted line
—>>> Review Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars – A naïve nineteen-year-old dancer thinks she hits a deserving jackpot finally in her miserable life when she realizes she has made probably the worst mistake to date, when she agrees to sign a contract for 50K to work overseas. Slowly realizing she is in very real peril, Carmen fights back in all the ways she can, sometimes even managing to take her captor Eamon by surprise. Eamon was hired to do one job, and that was to deliver the girl and put her on the plane to her new owner to finalize the deal. But when that job suddenly has a very real expiration date because the deal went south, Eamon finds himself unable to follow his new orders.
Elements of reluctant attraction, insightful self-analysis, and possibility of real love out of this plausible situation made this a good first read from a new-to-me author.
This was a fantastic extremely dark romance but it is definitely not for the faint of heart. The two main characters Eamon and Carmen are both have psychological issues. Eamon in particular is not a nice guy. That being said I really enjoyed this book. It was well-written with complex characters and a storyline that was dark, interesting and well-developed. There was plenty of emotions in this book along with drama, suspense, danger, steam and love.

My first book by Sonora Voss and will be back for more! A captivating tale with complex emotions running through out. This is the story of Carmen a troubled young woman who was offered a unbelievable deal that was good to be true that led her into the arms of Eamon, a man for hire with a job that became more difficult to execute with each passing day he spent around her. well written though I felt the ending seemed a bit rushed to a HEA but could lead on to a part 2 with how things were left danger still being out there.

This is one hot read, great chemistry, lots of romance a real page turner that’s well written and flows seamlessly with twists and turns it certainly makes it a compelling read.
Carmen who yes is somewhat naive believes she has signed up to something that would better her life, which in truth is totally the opposite. Eamon works for Dark Horizon as a mercenary definitely cold and cruel, was given the job to deliver the now unwilling Carmen to her final destination however the plan changes so what will happen with Carmen and Eamon??? The book is then dedicated to Carmen and Eamon attempting to resolve the situation they have found themselves in, which at times was was not very pleasant, Eamon did have some cruel tendencies!!!!
I did at one point think Carmen had a touch of Stockholm syndrome. However I did enjoy the book and am certain you will also. I was given this as an ARC via hidden gems books in exchange for a voluntary honest review which I was happy to provide.
Eamon never expected his job to go sideways. When he discovers a truth he didn’t want to know about he has to figure out what to do with Carmen. He doesn’t do attachment or long term but can he really justify what he’s being ordered to do?
Carmen calls to a part of him he thought he sealed off long ago. Can he let her go and be free or will he follow orders?

This is my first time reading this author. The plot has some dark themes throughout it and so there is a chance of triggers for some readers due to the subject matters of abuse, trafficking and abduction. The story flows nicely at a steady pace. I found it to be an easy to read book that I read in one sitting. Both main characters are damaged and have a lot to work through.

This is a story of a woman, a teenager, who signs on the dotted line for a better life. WTH. What did she sign? Now she’s being driven away from her hometown by a crazy abusive man. Eamon just wants to get paid, but he didn’t sign up for this. Or what he supposed to do now. Danger, lust, harsh treatment. This is a good story it wasn’t crazy long but it was good
