Everyone needs a fresh start sometime. For Gretel Morrison, that time is now, and the place is tiny, snowbound Lost Harbor, Alaska. It’s about time she learned how to rely on herself instead of her wealthy, controlling family. If she can survive the winter here, she can survive anything—although maybe not the lethally sexy and attractive next-door neighbor, Zander Ross. Zander has his hands … his hands full raising his two younger brothers. The last thing he needs is distraction in the form of a spoiled rich girl who has no idea what she’s in for. He’d bet anything she won’t make it past the next blizzard—although he might not either, not with his sanity intact. With her dazzling smile and lighthearted style, she’s everything he’s not. And everything he longs for.
When a threat to the Ross family surfaces, Zander gets the shock of his life when Gretel steps up with an outrageous idea that might help them both. Can he trust her enough to take a chance? Or will Gretel’s mega-millionaire father find a way to ruin their amazing-but-fragile new bond?
Alaska winters are always wild, but this one is about to get wicked.

I absolutely love this series!!! And dare I say Gretel and Zander’s story is my favorite so far! I just love these characters so much, from Gretel’s transformation to owning her life and being responsible to the way Zander has stepped up to care for his brothers after losing his parents, they are both really easy to love. And their chemistry is fantastic so all of their interactions are amazing. Jenny Bernard’s beautiful descriptive writing about the gorgeous Alaskan landscape transports me there for every one of these stories and I just love that! The scene where Zander and Gretel go on the dog sled is simply incredible! I felt like I was right there with them. From start to finish I was team Gretel and Zander and I really enjoyed every part of their story!!
I love reading about Lost Harbor, Alaska and Jennifer Bernard has written another fun story in the series. This time, two people who seem like opposites find that sizzling chemistry can lead to real feelings when they join together into a marriage with an asterisk.
I read an advanced copy of this book
Wicked In Winter is a ton of fun with wicked chemistry that heats up the winter months between Gretel and Zander.
What starts out as a bet between Gretel, the new girl in town, and Zander, the pseudo-father to his brothers, to see if Gretel will stick out her first cold, unforgiving winter in Alaska only gets more heated when their attraction ends in a marriage with an *(asterisk). So, unlike a fake marriage or one only on paper, their marriage is one with lots of chemistry, because they refuse to deny it between the two of them, but one that is also mutually beneficial.
They both have a reason to need a wife/husband in the short term and their attraction to one another is wicked hot, but even with all of their stipulations in place and with them getting along, is it enough for a real future together?
Gretel is used to running free and never staying in one spot, while Zander is used to rules and running his home like the military. The more time these two spend together they more they take on one another’s attributes and really getting along. Gretel is bubbly and attracts people to her side like a beacon of light and her unstructured upbringing secretly craves the way Zander runs his life. Zander is also drawn to Gabby’s playful side, something he hasn’t had in a very long time, especially since he took over raising his two brothers.
Gretel is very easy to like, relatable in the way she just wants to find her purpose in life. For the first time ever, Alaska feels like the perfect fit, even with the sub-zero weather. She doesn’t want to leave even though she has an * clause in her marriage, but sometimes things are out of her control.
Zander is a commendable man, coming home from the military after his parents died, to take on the job of raising his younger siblings. As a young, single male that job isn’t easy, but that fact that he’s hanging in there to give them the best life he can is a huge heart melter. As he begins to fall for Gretel it may be too late to tell her when he finally realizes it, but how to you contain a free spirit?
Fall in love with this frozen land while warming up with this amazing couple in Lost Harbor.
It’s fun. It’s sexy. It’s charming. And, it’s all because of Gretel. She is a beautiful soul with a flair for style, drama and caring. Gretel is one of those characters that just makes you smile and fills your heart with warmth even when she’s making you crazy and that’s what she does to Zander. They have such a wonderful relationship that is built on friendship, respect and desire that it falls effortlessly into love and adoration. They compliment each other perfectly and that makes their story addictive.
In this unprecedented world we live in now, this book brings in the beauty, light and positivity of true love, family values and happy endings. In this crazy time, I believe it has healing powers…at least to the isolation and boredom many of us feel. I can not recommend this book, this series and this author enough because it is that good.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
No matter if spring has arrived, you’re still stuck in winter, or Mother Nature can’t make up her mind, this is the perfect read for your downtime. It’s warm and witty and just wicked enough to lure you in and keep you reading late into the night. And these characters! They’ll steal your heart and leave you happy, making you wonder how you ever managed before they came into your life.
Zander Rose is doing the best he can. After his parents’ fatal accident, he left the marines and came home to Lost Harbor to take care of his two young brothers. He may run things a bit like a drill sergeant, but he always has his brothers’ best interest at heart.
Gretel Zsa Zsa Whitney Morrison (yeah, that will make sense once you know her mother) has no cares and little responsibility, always doing whatever she wants, flitting from one getaway to another compliments of her father’s deep pockets. After visiting her sister in Lost Harbor and helping a friend with young children after a health scare, Gretel decides to stay put for a while. And what Gretel won’t tell you is that she has a heart of gold under that frivolous, carefree façade. When the serious, stoic neighbor, Zander, has a need Gretel thinks she can help with, she runs headlong into something that surprises even her.
One of the things I love most about this series is that, with each new book, it feels like coming home. The setting is scenic and vivid, and the characters are lively, quirky and unique, welcoming any newcomer with open arms. Gretel, Zander, and his brothers all have that perfect amount of vulnerability that never fails to captivate me and secure a place in my heart. And seeing all of them grow and become their best selves as a result of their journey together is the cherry on top of this delightful, entertaining, heartfelt dessert. You absolutely don’t want to miss this one! Once you go to Lucky Harbor, you’ll never want to leave.
Best story in the series so far.
This is the story of Gretel Morrison and Zander Ross. We got to meet Gretel in Seduced by Snowfall as she is Bethany’s sister. I thought she was funny and crazy in that story, but in this one she just come alive even more. She has such a zest for life and she is such a free spirit that you just can’t help but love her. I thought it was funny the way that Zander and her fought by the wood shed and the whole scene just made me chuckle. Zander totally needed someone like Gretel in his life. He was having a hard time being the strict parent figure for his 2 younger brothers that it was nice to see him let loose and enjoy himself with Gretel. I loved how he fought for Gretel and got her back. Swoon!! This is my favorite book out the series so far and I can’t wait to see who is next in line to get the HEA.
From the moment I met Gretel I loved her spunk and her spirit and her willingness to go to battle for those she cares about. She’s irreverent, funny and trying desperately to be her own woman. Zander lives by the creed of the Marines and runs his house like a boot camp.
There are ups and downs and interventions by controlling family members as well as government agencies. This book made me laugh at Gretel’s antics and some of the problems facing Zander with two young men to raise made me sigh because I remember raising a step child and it’s pretty close to the same thing.
As always Ms Bernard writes an intriguing, fast paced and totally enjoyable book. This can be read as a stand alone but I certainly recommend reading the entire series.
What a breath of fresh air!! Gretel was such a free spirit with a heart of gold. Gretel was in Alaska trying to become a better person and finding her place in the world. Zander was a serious, concerned twenty-seven year old raising his two younger brothers. Gretel and Zander are definitely attracted to each other but it takes awhile for them to see how much they need each other. The speed courting was so sweet and fun to read. Oh, this story pulled all my heart strings in the best way with not one complaint!!
Yay! Another Lost Harbor, Alaska book! This series is so much fun. I am enjoying the heck out of them! Love Zander and Gretel. I loved it.
