A blast from the past. Trudie is back with a big secret and Brett sees someone he thought he’d never see again. This book is definitely full of monster hunting but it’s also about family and regrets. It is awesome but also sad.
Kat Drummond is a monster hunter, who’s group’s license has been withdrawn due to new laws. She does eventually find out who is responsible for the new laws and why they were applied. Kat’s best friend Trudy is back after being away for a very long time – and she isn’t nearly the same goth chick Kat used to know. Trudy came to Kat for help and she gets that help, even though it goes against nearly everything in which Kat believes. Getting this help means being involved in something between werewolves and orcs. What her team finds is an organised group of orcs hunting werewolves – peaceful or not. Who is leading these orcs is a blast from the past for Brett – a member of her group and Kat’s latest possible love interest. He has to get past his history with this person so that they can stop the bloodshed.
“Not all wolves are monsters, they’re just different. And while some become beasts, they aren’t so different from humans. Some are good. Some are evil.”
“Because we work together. Because we fight the darkness. Because, without us…all is lost.”
This series is killing me! lol. I’m so wrung up I may bounce like a coil, so much tension, my lower lip is all chewed up! So much tension, cracking nerves, and nail biting, heart wrenching moments! A life of pain. Of sacrifice. But I also saw resilience, heroism. The grit that kept someone going, that makes you a human. Brett and Guy’s POV were excellent as Corps members, incorporated as a child soldier. A Corps created on vengeance to slay monsters and protect humanity, driven by despair, where every fight, every battle was only to get rid of the monsters, not taking into account the base nor morality of their actions. But, I can’t judge them, because each one of them were victims of their own tragic pasts. Brett has evolved beside Kat, leaving behind his hatred, his need of vengeance, learning and understanding that not all monsters and creatures from the In-between are evil, just like the humans, some are good and others bad. Nicholas Woode-Smith has captured the essence of what makes us humanitarian. He has totally captivated me. This series has no fillers, it’s a complete and engaging storyline, an exceptional world building, an exciting and thrilling experience. Each premise is impressive and worthy to read it. Next stop, Fae Hunt #9!
This is book 8 in the Kat Drummond Series and this is a Hella Good Read.
I could litterally hardly put it down. I have a Katverse hangover but I’m ready for more.
I was on the edge of my seat the entire book with Trudies return and as usual madness and mayhem!
Right from the beginning this book delves right into the good and gritty with Trudie’s return and the revelations of where she had been. Kat and Brent must learn to trust new allies and make uneasy alliances to defeat a hardened enemy who blaims Kat for his sons death.
This is a huge curve ball giving Kat and Brett a steap learning curve as they fight to unbench the agency that has been blacklisted for not being properly licensed.
And as a wonderful and fasinating story-line twist we finally get too meet Brett’s mentor/father figure that has been mentioned but never revealed!
Hot Flaming Katverse what a ride could not put this book down and can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
She’s Back!
Kat has made it back to her world and finally meets up with her friend Trudie who has been turned into a werewolf by her last boyfriend. Unable to control herself, Trudie comes to Kat for help who finds a pack of werewolves that can help Trudie control her werewolf side. Unfortunately the pack has just been attacked without provocation by orcs and is not in the best of moods. Eventually Kat comes to an agreement with the pack leader where Kat deals with the orcs while the pack helps her friend. This leads Kat and the Kat’s Crusaders on a new adventure dealing with orcs, goblins and more encounters with the Conclave. Along the way we learn more about Brett’s history.
This is another great Kat Drummond book and shows the author has put a lot of thought into the creation of the world that Kat lives in.
So, I know I’ve said this before, but this, book 8, is my favorite so far followed by “Dead World” and “Necrolord”. Life starts out pretty much back to “normal” for Kat and crew, but they soon running into trouble with Councilor Garce, who’s son, Andy, Kat killed as a werewolf. Despite this difficulty, Kat and friends continue to do what they do as bes they can. The catalyst event of this book (SPOILER ALERT) of Trudie, but things are complicated and this leads to Kat and the Crusaders helping not one, but two groups of “monsters”. Kat comes to realized that not all “monsters” are truly bad / evils, that many just want normal lives like everyone else. While this is important to Kat’s growth, it’s even more so for Brett who also finds that those people / things he believed in when he was younger aren’t as simple or “good” as he thought. Overall, besides the excellent battle scenes, we learn more about the crew and they learn more about themselves and those around them, really stepping up to defend the innocent no matter who they are. I was happy with the resolution of the book and am anxiously awaiting the next, hopefully many, book!
This was definitely another great book! It had me on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what happened next! Right from the beginning, I was surprised! Trudie finally comes back, but not the same! And Kat must learn to work with those she thinks are the enemy to help her best friend. Both Kat and Brett learn valuable lessons in this book as well. And we finally get to meet Brett’s mentor/father figure that has been hinted at for so long! I definitely could not put this book down and can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
Woode-Smith brings us another wonderful read with Silver Brotherhood. Kat and Brett will have to face the past in this intense and gripping novel. They will find themselves teaming up with who they had recently considered to be monsters in this latest Kat Drummond installment. An action-packed page-turner. I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
Magic, monsters and mayhem, oh my! How I do love Kat Drummond. She’s just the perfect sort of kick-a** heroine that I adore. Needed especially now As my whole family is caught up in CORVID-19 insanity (two hospitalized for other reasons, who we cannot visit, and 1 tested positive and in quarantine though no overt symptoms so far). Thank God for good books. It’s what’s keeping all of us sane. Silver Brotherhood (Kat Drummond, Book 8) is a particularly great one, as I expected since the prior books (each separately reviewed) were fabulous, and I can count on anything written by Nicholas Woode-Smith. Highly recommended for fun … and sanity saving.
Brett is on the cover for a reason! In many ways this is his story, and we get to see more of the country, and communities we haven’t been introduced to yet. There have been glimpses of Brett’s haunting past, teasing at the edges of the Silver Brotherhood; this book explores it more fully. As with previous books, the loyalties, motivations and actions are rich with nuance and meaning. Trudie is in many ways a foil, her journey in a very different direction just beginning.
What could be a dark and heavy book is very well balanced with humor. I think one of my favorite parts was mention of how the rifts affected other parts of the world, particularly New Orleans. There is also no shortage of action including some pretty epic fight scenes.
This is book 8 in the series, and Kat is following up on promises she made. While book each contains a self-contained plot, there is also a larger continuance of character and overarching plots that have far more depth and meaning when read together. I strongly recommend starting from the beginning – it is an incredible adventure!
