I enjoyed this story and will read more by this author. I do like historical romance and this one is set on a ship bound to New York. The aspects of upper and lower class are interesting to read about and how the characters dealt with three issues.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Shay escaped the starvation and poverty in Ireland, sold into servitude by her father. She had only a small chance of freedom and marriage. McAlister Wadsworth sees a future with Shay as he believes her to be of the upper class, after a romance with her on the way to New York. When they arrive at the beginning of the Civil War, will they find each other again, and will he find out the truth about Shay and help her?
This is book #3 of a 37 book series written by many authors, each book tells one story in each state/territory during the Civil War. The book goes into wonderful detail, including the name of the famous Irish Brigade the Fighting Irish. Definitely Recommend loved the story.
It’s amazing what people went through to come to America. I liked the chance meeting and developing romance between Mac and Shannon (Shay).
I received a free copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this review.
I loved the story, but found the music at the beginning and end of each chapter distracting. I wasn’t delighted with the narration, but I’ve listened to worse. It’s a bit of a Cinderella tale, but overall I’m rating it 4 stars.
This audiobook was great and I loved listening to the narrator especially when she was reading Shay’s part or any of the Irish. I have read stories about indentured servants before and it’s a subject I like. It amazes me that these people will leave everything they know and give up family to try and make their lives better. They really didn’t know just how bad it would be in America and was expecting greater things. Add this audiobook with a sweet romance to your collection. I think you will love it!
I received a free copy of this audiobook but was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
As with all of Christine’s books, this is such a fascinating read. It keeps you captivated. I couldn’t put it down. Very good story of love triumphant over class. Can’t wait to see what’s next…
Book # 3 in the North and South series and Christine is back to entertain us and spin her tale of love gained by this New York couple. Perfect blend of war and love. Of course, I like the romance, and am glad this series emphasizes that over the tragedy of war. Good job, Christine.
1861 From Ireland to America, this story pulls at the very heart of the endurance of the immigrants that came to America and the price they paid.
As Shay O’Donnell, twenty and her brother Finn, sixteen were boarding the ship to go to America for a better life. They will be working in a mill and indentured for seven years for their room and board and then be able to set out on their own. With the famine in Ireland their father prayed it would help them survive.
I truly felt I was walking on that ship with these two and could see the terrible conditions they were facing just to make the voyage across to New York.
But Shay manages to run into her future in the form of Macallister Wardword, who is in first class and is own his way back to New York after conducting business on his father’s behalf. He does not realize Shay’s circumstances and they somehow manage to spend together.
But when they land in New York, the war is starting and everything changes. Will these two be able to come back together and when he finds out what really is going on?
A story that truly tore at my heart and will have me thinking about for awhile. Christine Sterling has taken us on a journey that brings history to life and the plight of the Irish and others coming to America. Amazing.
Excellent- it kept me turning the pages
